What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Today...

Breakfast: 2 eggs and 4 rashers streaky bacon
Lunch: 4 walnuts and 7 grapes (carefully weighed out)
Dinner: Jerk Crispy Chicken (Diet Doctor recipe) with home made coleslaw and (possibly) some celeriac chips - although I think I may just have a big portion of the chicken.
Supper: Pork scratchings and a glass or two of Prosecco

After breakfast today we (me and Mr C) took our dogs to Cleethorpes as the new dog has never seen the sea. The other two really love it so it was no surprise that he (black Labrador) was totally in his element. We had a lovely long walk along the beach - just a light breeze and plenty of sunshine. I just wish it had been a bit warmer. I had my little 'packed lunch' and by the time I got back home my BG was at 4.8

B. Nothing - had to get to swimming with grandson and was puzzling over meter discrepancies
L. Also nothing - wasn't intentional but son roped me in to help with his shopping then had to do my own as I'd forgotten to order.
PRE DINNER- Remains of last night's chilli trout as we won't eat until later.
D. Pork loin chop , 1/2 salad bowl , green beans and 1/2 avocado.
Found out from chemist new meter is correct so I have months of inaccurate readings. Good news is most of my readings have been within range. Will need to get an appointment to get an HBa1c done as this has thrown me. Difference was significant.

L: Bacon and a spoonful of baked beans
D: Lamb Tagine and bulgar wheat

Hello
B. Pomegranate pot

L. Fathead cheeses crackers with Camambert

D. At Indian restaurant. 1 popadom, king prawn tikka starter, tandoori chicken tikka with side salad.

Mr C has been talking about experimenting with an Indian meal (he really misses going out for a good Indian meal) so your post is very, very interesting. How did that popadom impact on your BG? Or didn't it at all because you kept very low carb the rest of the day???? And did you have the popadom with the usual chopped tomato and onion salad and dip?

@Chook , the popadom was fine because I had been careful with other carbs during the day. I had it with a little raw onion and mint yoghurt. As you can see the rest of the meal was really protein. I have experimented with other dishes but this suits me best as the only carb is the popadom. Just like you we like an Indian meal so I was glad to find a winning combination.

Love Indian meals. Good to know I can still have something

Yesterday:

Breakfast: Slice of melon and Italian Herb Ham
Lunch: Low-Sugar Beans, Turkey Bacon and two Fried Eggs
Tea: Carrots and 2 Turkey Burgers

No snacks. Can't believe I survived without snacks. Checked my blood sugars after the beans and the melon Thankfully they didn't spike.

Visitors today so a big change to the planned Diet Doctor menu:

Breakfast: Baked fresh mackerel with a squeeze of lemon juice

Lunch: Probably not

Early Dinner: Roast Chicken, Mr C's pork stuffing balls (8 good meaty sausages popped out of their skins then mix the meat with a level tablespoon of finely chopped red onion, a level tablespoon of finely grated lemon zest (not much) and a level tablespoon of finely chopped fresh sage (can add a clove or two of garlic if you want) then shaped in to balls and roasted. Takes literally two minutes to put together and tastes much, much nicer than shop bought. With the roast chicken we will be having roasted cauliflower, roast parsnips (only a quarter of one for me), steamed tenderstem broccoli and asparagus. I'm going to attempt to make a gravy with the juices from the chicken, some seasoning and some double cream to thicken it.

Dessert for everyone else will be my (inspired by Delia Smith's) home made chocolate truffle torte with some fresh berries and a jug of double cream for those that want it.

@Chook , although I'm positive a commercial establishment wouldn't use Patak's poppadoms, they're not a bad guide, when looking at the package: http://www.waitrose.com/shop/Displa...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CMjK_qXg-NECFUSIUQodk1oAsA

Even if they ones served to you were double the size (and many would be, I'm sure), that's still only 7.4gr carb. I would say your bigger challenges are in the dips and pickles. Mango chutney I wouldn't even bother looking at. I mightn't be surprised to find a sweetness in tomato dishes, but you have to give it a go yourself as each establishment will do their own thing.

MrB and I tend to do Indian cuisine at home, as he's an excellent cook, but if we are out with friends, we would tend to share pops and pciks, which is enough for us, to leave plenty space for the main event.

Thank you for the link @AndBreathe I think it's that Mr C is getting a bit bored with always having carvery when we eat out. It will be nice to have an alternative option available. He more or less eats the same way I do, to make it easier for me and I know he misses eating out.

In the days before we changed to low carb medium fat we used to eat out a couple of times a week - usually Friday and Sunday - and would normally have a takeaway of some sort on a Saturday but that has mostly stopped due to lack of menu choices in most of the local restaurants.

We are also going to investigate a tapas restaurant that we have seen advertised. In the advert there are several pictures of yummy looking meat dishes that might be suitable.

Wouldn't you consider experimenting with home-made takeaway food? When we make curry at home, it's never just enough for two meals. We then usually have a bit of a stock of fakeaways in the freezer we can go to, if we don't want to cook.

Reheating one of those is hardly any effort.

Oh, we do, Mr C makes a great curry and I enjoy making different types of kebab. We just enjoy going out, especially with friends.

Sounds like it's time to experiment then. You could always make what you feel will be your best choices and test, test, test.

I must admit, I have never turned down an invitation because of my diabetes, or way of eating. There's usually something I can eat. MrB also eats the same as me, although he may have additional carbs if he wants them. That bothers me not a jot.

B/L (it's Sunday) 2 gluten free pork chipolatas, 2 crispy bacon rashers, 1 chestnut mushroom , wilted spinach and yet another double yolk egg (had loads of them this week) Black coffee with dash of cream.
D. Campari and soda and a 1/2 bottle of prosecco with the meal.
Air fried chicken wings with a dip.
Rib eye steak with mustard , aubergine chips, roasted curried cauliflower and spinach .
Will probably have another coffee too.

Hello
B. Pomegranate pot

L. Out. Prawn cocktail followed by scrambled eggs with smoked salmon

D. Fathead crackers (biscuits ) with melted Camambert and a few walnuts.

I may have another pomegranate pot later

Out of sync with the dietdoc menu, so getting back on track. Ish.

B: bacon and egg and coffee substitute.
L: forgot. But had sliced cold meat and cheese when i remembered!
D: will be the divine chicken, feta and olive dish. And a big green salad.

Only now i have a portion of last night's crackslaw that i should have had for lunch, sitting in the fridge. Wonder if i can face it for breakfast?

I have a reputation for being able to eat anything at any time but I really don't think I could cope with crack slaw for breakfast.

First week of Diet Doctor Challenge finished. I've had to cut back on the meals because I just can't eat that much. (I never thought I'd say that)

Today's menu is

Breakfast: hot chia, flaxseed and linseed porridge made with Almond Breeze

Lunch: Avocado with a splash of lime juice

Dinner: Chicken skewers (bite size pieces of marinated chicken breastmade in to kebabs), spinach dip and - supposed to be -celeriac chips, but I might do keto garlic bread instead with some salad.

Supper: Sugar free jelly

Drinks: one coffee with cream at breakfast, the rest will be plain black decaff coffee or water.
