What is 'normal' for you, but shouldn't be?

Hi,

I've recently clamped down hard on my diet, and I'm feeling the benefits.

But it has made me review a few things that (for years) I thought were 'normal' but turn out to have disappeared as soon as I've brought my BG down to non-pre-diabetic levels.

I thought they were age related, and weight related, and just a sign of... being me... middle aged and plump.
Turns out I was wrong!:woot:

They included

sleeping lightly, restless, bad temperature control in bed
waking up feeling like the walking dead, lurching zombie-like down the landing to the bathroom, knees aching, feet aching, bleary eyed
pain in joints, particularly knees
deteriorating memory and concentration

What things have you come to accept as normal that shouldn't be?

I have a large callus on the ball of my right foot which often makes it painful to walk. It's been a problem for far too long. Last week I finally got round to self-referring myself to the podiatrist to see if it can be sorted out. It would be good to be able to wear any of the shoes I have rather than have to pick the only pair that don't cause discomfort.

I have a really sore elbow at the moment which I suspect is Tennis Elbow, had similar feeling in my other arm several years ago and a steroid injection helped with the problem, must go and get it seem to :(

I have upper body itching, which I have to take an antihystermine to get some peace and sleep (I'm scratching as I'm typing). My GP translated the Greek as itch- itch. The only other thing that helps is ice. But as I'm feeling the cold, and cold makes it worse! Ho hum!

Oh that's so painful.:( I had that in both arms at the same time, many years ago, before I was diabetic. My GP didn't want to give me injections because I was a woman and they were painful and you have to keep still for a time which would have been impossible for me as I was a Mum with young children. He didn't really give me any advice. The best help I got was from a young lad who was working in a sports shop during the Summer holidays. When I asked him to do up the trainers my son was trying on because I couldn't even make a pincer movement with my left hand, he understood immediately and found me a support for £4.99 which helped me immensely. I used it so much I had to buy a replacement when it wore out.

I dont feel any different to how i felt 25 years ago... Better to burn out, than fade away! :D

Did try the elbow support and it did help a little bit, but in the end I ended up getting the steroid injection as the pain and stiffness was becoming too uncomfortable. The little things can be so troublesome...............

I wouldn't say tennis elbow was 'a little thing' , I found it horribly painful, you have my sympathy.

No but compared to other illnesses and conditions we could have I wouldn't say it ranks high enough to say it's a serious condition, but TE is annoying just the same.

You have just described me. I have always been stiff like that when I get up. Good job we have an en-suite or I could kill myself falling down the stairs

Well actually - I now feel like I did when I was a fit 21 year old. However, I did have pains in my feet/toes always needed the loo. Just thought it was old age but none of it now. Also had dry itchy eyes but that has gone too.... The only thing I have got now is cramps every now and then on days when I don't carb up or after about 5 hours since I last fed. Wondering if I am often on the edge of carb/fat burning as I vary my carb levels between days, although I always have a minimum of 150g I always burn that amount off in exercise daily
