Hugs for you, your family and your guests and hope the coming days will be a little easier. The iced tea sounds like a great idea. Hot tip - the smallest sprinkle of salt in a drink will help to keep you hydrated.17.07.
My parents wedding anniversary yesterday Its a difficult day for Mum. They were married for 66 years.
A day of high FBG (6.3 ), temperature (39°C), bad news and dramatic faintings.
Disregarding guidelines for keeping safe in hot weather can be fatal.
A 42 year old distant relative of MrSlim had a heart attack after a boozy party last night and died this morning. A similar thing happened to MrSlims brother at about the same age.
Our house guest, also suffered from the heat, having had an energetic water pistol fight with her daughter in the afternoon and not drinking enough to compensate.
I really thought she was going to need hospital treatment for a while, but an hour of gentle sponging down with cool, but not cold water, and insisting she drink every time she came round and after a short sleep, she has recovered enough to have sharp words with her teenage son, although she is still alarmingly wobbly. Remember we have an ancient house with uneven curved stone stairs, a fall would almost certainly lead to significant injury.
Tomorrow is going to be even hotter, but I doubt if she will be sunbathing...i made peach flavoured tea to have over ice, but we are all out of ice cream cones and I suspect the shops will be too.
Hope you are all managing to keep cool and safe out of the sun.
@ianpspurs thanks for posting the useful chart on heat related problems.
@gennepher lovely paintings, how wonderful that your daughter shares your artistic nature.
@Krystyna23040 glad to read Poppy is doing well after her dental treatment.
All the best with your gardens and nocturnal visitors. All gardening to be done first thing in the morning or with a lantern in the dead of night for now. I do like your kaleidoscopes.Fbg 6.7
Last night I protected the lower part of my veg garden with some different nettings I had. My theory being that the Polecat/whatever small creature it was, would not like getting its claws in the netting. Tried a few types round the base of different plants and pots
Then I replenished the different sized water bowls I always have in the front garden for passing wild animals, from a saucer to a larger container. Normally I don't put food down in the front garden, but since it appears there are hungry creatures at the moment with the hot weather, I scattered two jugs of cat biscuits near the water bowls for the nocturnal creatures.
It was all gone by this morning. But it didn't stop what ever creature/s have been getting into my back garden. They are obviously searching for food. I couldn't get out of the study door this morning because some different creature had devised a new way into the back garden and pushed some heavy plant pots over jamming me opening my door outwards. My back doors open outwards into the back garden.
Some damage and destruction in the back garden, but the netting I put round the base of all my lower down veg plants stopped whatever it was from digging into the soil. They obviously don't like the feel of the netting in their claws.
Midnight appears to be coping with these nocturnal creatures.
Creative is a kaleidoscope in Laboscope of one of my neck fans.
Work to do, stuff to put right...
Cuppa first.
P.S. Absolutely no electrical DIY tools to be used today in this heat @alf_Josiah
That skidding electrical screwdriver could have skidded further than just on the wood.....
Take care everyone today...

Thanks for sharing those trees. Stay cool: fill a hot water bottle with ice or iced water and hug it; cool socks in the fridge before wearing if you still wear them with your sliders - NOT with sandals perleeze; do you have a pith helmet? Not saying if I do.Good morning everyone on the morning of the start of the big melt here in the not so dark and too hot to be dangerous north - unless of course you have pearly white skin and fall asleep in the garden - don’t do this at home! Already we have windows open and curtains closed. Luke warm showers may be employed later and moping about is on the cards. I have just been informed that Penny Mourdant is not a thing, a Mourdant that can be purchased for a penny. Rather, it is a sort of Amber Rudd clone (Amber Rudd is also not a thing - who knew!). So, today is the next round and time to vote off, The Weakest Link.
There are no pre-prepared plans for today but we may ponder about how the month of February got it’s name - should cool us down.
Art bit - the end game for the latest trees - best start thinking of the next one. But first Koffy before the day gets too hot.

A wonderful link on Elizabeth Ferard...Morning all on the eve of The Big One ™, a sort of warm up if you will. @jjraak I'm obviously guilty although in mitigation it was the author of the link your honour.. @SlimLizzy glad my link was useful but so sorry to hear of the bitter sweet anniversary, sad death and heat problems for your guest giving you extra work and stress. @gennepher I'm a fan of that kaleidoscope thanks and hug for the mess caused by visiting animals. Good news on the netting and such kindness shown by leaving out water and food. Good advice on eschewing electrical/heavy tools for a couple of days. @Krystyna23040 air con can be a blessing and a boon but remember that lightweight fleece. I guess the chune for the next two days is Ice, Ice baby but I prefer to link this for the sentiment. This is basically what I see so many others here doing in their own ways. I'll just name check @gennepher and @SlimLizzy today but it could equally be any of y'all. Apt that today is the commemoration of this lady. Hydrate with the appropriate liquid or suffer.
Thank you very much @dunelmAll the best with your gardens and nocturnal visitors. All gardening to be done first thing in the morning or with a lantern in the dead of night for now. I do like your kaleidoscopes.
Glad you liked that as I was unsure whether to post or not but it seemed to fit just now.A wonderful link on Elizabeth Ferard...
Ah, the pith helmet has been replaced by one provided by those nice multi-lingual people at Tillley; Le Chapeau Tilly which does quite nicely when dunked into a trough of water. Sliders- no, sandals, very much no. I like my Hoka mesh shoes with white Polly cotton mesh socks, feet stay cool all day. Fridge shocks - good idea. What about a cool bag with a couple of freezer blocks and spare socks it you are out all day? Thanks for sharing those trees. Is the Tilly as per your avatar? She is now aware of the need to drink more than usual and to stay out off the sun. I am sure she doesn't want to feel so ill again.@SlimLizzy I do hope that your houseguest is more sensible today. Thank goodness you were there to look after her yesterday.
He's gorgeous .Fbg 6.5
Got to do stuff today.
All present and correct at gennepher's cat diner and garden yesterday.
I've been working on a new app, and haven't mastered it yet.
So a quickie this morning.

Brushed him a lot yesterday.
Just one bit of dead fur to get out...
Cuppa next.
Have a good day...

Your massager sounds good @jjraak
I now have two hand massagers. One smaller pink one I mentioned awhile ago. Then I ordered a second one which goes up the arm a little, and I need that for my carpal tunnel syndrome, as well as for trigger thumb. I use them several times a day, and during the night as well.
I had to explain to my daughter, while she was here, that if she heard machinery going in the night, it was the Borg re-awakening...
One just has to keep trying @jjraakGood to know they do you some good, Genn
Been useful to me already.
Even used to ease shoulder muscle.
I can use bad hand (left) to scratch over my Rh shoulder,
But the good hand (right with bad shoulder) won't go much beyond my clavicle when trying to reach over my LH shoulder.
First world problems, I know...but it is annoying
Aim is to see if I can improve from that plateau point, I seem to have landed on .
Good luck with your therapy
