What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Slow start today. 3.30 am BG was 11.3 but I just took pain killers and went back to sleep. Dragged myself awake at 8.50 when BG was 12.9. I've been trying to get on and do things I should have done yesterday so ignored BG and had some cheese to keep me going. However, now it is at 14.5 (Libre) - that means about 16 on the fingerprick and the Libre is giving me messages about taking whatever emergency measures my medics recommend to reduce BG. In fact, they don't, so I have just taken a correction dose of insulin and hope that will do the job.

Yesterday I had a long (for me) list of things I wanted to get done but before I got going but 2 visitors arrived - one lives on the Island and I see her often but the other has recently moved back to Britain from America and I haven't seen her in 20 or so years. Enjoyed seeing her after all this time. They were here from 11 am to 4.30 pm. Luckily I managed to find enough in the fridge to feed them. But I ended up doing very little from my list and that little just about finished me. It was the major task of putting a clean cover on my duvet. I used a recommended "easy" method but it took me an hour and I needed to rest for the remainder of the evening after that.

They said they would come back on Sunday afternoon - about 5 pm so will need to be fed again. And they will be bringing some others with them. Didn't order food in to make that much extra but I will manage if I can make enough of an effort today to prep a few things. Oh dear. That's quite an expectation I have there. I have made a start by using my breakfast smoked mackerel and making a pate and hard boiling some eggs. Luckily, despite a local egg shortage again, I have enough if I don't have any myself until I can get more.

One of the Sunday visitors is diabetic and determinedly won't eat carbs - just sits sullenly and refuses to eat even fairly low carb things and making everyone feel uncomfortable; bad manners, but that's life. Knowing it would mean I would be ill-mannered if I didn't make provision for her. So low carb baking, salads, mainstream baking, will do the job. Coconut flour, bananas and peanut butter will be coming into their own. Baking cakes I can do blindfolded so no problem there. The only problem will be my stamina.
 
Good morning all. Another sunny day!
Had my HbA1c results via Patient Access yesterday evening. After taking the combination of Metformin, Gliclizide and the additional Linagliptin ( Tragenta) for the past 3 months my result has come down from 93 to 80 mmols! Better but still too high! On the day of my test I attempted to make a follow up appointment with the doctor who has been trialing my medication but no pre-bookable appointments were available. The receptionist sent him a message saying I had finished my 3 month supply of Tragenta and that my home fbs finger pricks hadn't come down. She rang me later saying the doctor had sent a code to the pharmacy for a months supply of Magenta to be collected that day and had put it on repeat prescription. She also said he'd said to continue taking "both" and to retest in 1-2 months. It didn't make sense to me and when I asked what he meant by "both" she said it was for Linagliptin and Tragenta. When I explained that they were 2 names for the same medication she was confused and recommend I wait for my results and take it from there. So I sent a message to the doctor in question last evening telling him my results and asking for his advice as to what happens next. He will not be in centre until next Tuesday so I'll continue as before until I hear anything.
# What I am wondering is will the Tragenta( Linagliptin) continue reducing my sugars the longer I take it? Does anyone know? I would be grateful to hear anyone's experience of this.

What sunny weather would that be, Ian? Slightly irritated to hear weather forecasters claiming that the north and west of the country is sunny from dawn to dusk. Here is has been overcast all day. No rain, just low cloud.

Just discovered that one of my guests tomorrow is a Syrian asylum seeker and is Moslem. This will affect what I put on the table tomorrow - no pork, ham or bacon - just in case that offends. I have eggs and fish plus cheese to work with, so I'll just keep the ham and bacon in the fridge. I don't think there are any other diet sensitivities I have to watch for, other than the zero carb lady. Do Presbyterians object to fish? No Jews, as far as I know, so mixing dairy with other things won't be a problem (not sure about Jewish dietary rules) .Makes for an interesting life.

Just, for some reason, thinking of a teacher I had in Primary school - best teacher I ever had. He had been in the army during WW2 and told us how, when on a train travelling through India, the troops took pity on starving looking folk alongside the railway so they threw food from the windows - what food they all had was tinned corned beef. The starving folk threw the cans back at the train. As Hindus, they wouldn't eat beef. As 10 year-olds, the class was puzzled at that reaction but that was the first inkling I had that food could be a religious issue.
 
Archie even better today and really enjoyed his two walks with no sign of stiffness in his legs.

Caught up on the admin although we did have a blip as we couldn't work on Excel not check the cctv camera on the computer that was sorted by the technician yesterday. Luckily we realised that the mouse needed a new battery. Very weird that everything else still worked ok and it was just those two applications that didn't.
 
BG at 4.30 am was 10.9 and a short time ago, 11.4. On my 2nd cup of tea and trying to motivate myself to get going with today's tasks (finishing off the food for "afternoon tea"). Dishwasher was put on at 4.30 and is ready to be emptied. Washing machine was only put on half an hour ago, so it will be a short time yet before it is ready to empty. I suppose I could do something about breakfast but I'm not really bothered about eating yet. I ended up just picking little bits from my baking to check for flavour and texture but not actually eating anything other than a few bits of Gouda yesterday, so I should be hungry. In fact, I'm just tired and drooping. Time to finish my tea and decide whether to push myself or doze in the chair for a while.
 
Good morning everyone on the morning after a family BBQ organised by daughter and son in law. 6.1 on the meter of lies this morning. Note to self, birthday cake is still on the naughty list. Still, the grandchildren enjoyed it so life is good. I seem to remember promising a Full English this morning for anyone not going swimming with Mrs Miggins and the miniature humans. Art bit, moving along. Have a smashing day today. I simply need more koffy.


 
Archie feeling even better this morning so we have decided that he will be ok to go to Oxburgh Hall. We will do a shorter walk than we usually do.

The Librela injection has worked like magic and looks to have minimal side effects.

Morning all from a very, very sunny LA. Everyone who went to Wales returned safely to the same place they started from. What just happened will take time to process and no single answer will suffice. Importantly, MIL seems to have experienced what she wanted. @Krystyna23040 great news on Archie - is Librela available for humans? Enjoy Oxburgh Hall. @gennepher hug for whatever is causing the stress and thanks for sharing the photo of that part of your domain. @dunelm thanks for sharing the progress of the latest piece of art. Is the gradual restoration of these structures a metaphor and is koffy almost a sacrement? 7 gms birthday cake leaves the bg unmoved in my experience but I guess a slice is nice @Annb amazing love and selfless care for those guests. Do take your rests and don't try to be perfect. Attached caught my eye in the more woke services - usually the ones with a Starbucks and Waitrose. Have a good day people -

I remember being quite surprised when (age 19 and quite unsophisticated/worldly wise) I came out of a train station women's toilet in Japan and had to walk past men standing at the urinals to get out of the building. I don't think I was shocked so much as puzzled and amused: "Strange people, the Japanese." So private in many ways, but also so unprudish (if that's a word). At least that train station had proper toilets, not just holes in the ground, which was our experience in other parts of the country.

This morning my blood sugars were 6.7 and what’s more I’m happy with that.

Today, in fact shortly I shall be doing as the late James Hendrix recommend having a lazy Sunny Sunday Afternoon, just how Kinky is that or Small Faced is that.

Just have to finish off some lemon cupcakes and put salad together now and I'm ready for my guests -keeping the bedroom door shut, so nobody can see how I haven't made the bed. Made a bit of a mess of the kitchen floor with crumbs and flour so will have to do something about that. Don't know if it was a good idea but I tried one of my oatcakes (never made them before)and they are delicious. Unfortunately, oats and me don't get on, but I had to check. Just had my "breakfast" - a slice of wholemeal bread from the freezer, toasted and with butter. That won't help the BG either but today I must remember to take my pills and have a cup of tea (toast has stuck in my throat and I need to do something to wash it down).

Somewhere I have a photo of my late husband, around the age of 19, so around 1953, in a urinal in France that was open to the street with just a shoulder high barrier to preserve some kind of privacy. No idea who took the photo - that was 10 years before we met so, I suppose it was another apprentice who found the whole idea strange.
 
Really good that everyone has safely returned to their homes.

We had a lovely walk around Oxburgh Hall - it actually felt like summer has arrived. We took it gently with Archie and only did two and a half miles then stopped at the cafe and the dogs had a special treat - doggy ice cream. Mr K had a sausage roll and I had my favourite Montazumas with my coffee.

I am sure there must be something similar to Librela for humans. Although I don't know anyone whose arthritis is being treated by a monthly injection.
