Late to post for me because went out this morning early to eat a breakfast in a new cafe opened up in England. Had good reviews. Well I am about to spoil that...
It ruined my morning, I needed indigestion stuff when I got back home...and I fell into a deep sleep.
It looked as good as the photos, but it had been pre cooked in old fat, and must have been heated up in the microwave. I prefer it when I can see kitchens...but it was all behind closed doors.
I couldn't even stick my fork in any of it, it was too hard...
I ate some of it to try, but had to use my fingers.
Won't be going there again.
Spoilt my morning.
And to get out of Wales this blooming 20mph thing where you don't know where it is going to be was a nightmare. My Sat Nav said the speeds of previous 20mph (outside schools) were now 30mph, and one stretch of road said it was 50 mph on my screen, and this must have also been on the screen of the Sat Nav of the huge wagon behind me because he was beeping me and was inches off my car's rear end. I ended up going a bit faster to get away from him, but he still beeped me and stayed inches from the back of the car. I ended up speeding to try get away from him, but he still stayed on my tail beeping me. My car stands no chance against a big wagon who can total me and my car because of his stupidity. I couldn't see the number plate as he was too close (I could only see his radiator), so if he had been a foreign wagon he wouldn't know the speed shown on his Sat Nav was wrong. The majority of massive wagons round here have foreign number plates.
This is a total nightmare.
It it like someone at Speed Limit Control is flicking switches at their fancy. 'Hey, let's make this 20 mph for a bit instead of 30 mph and see what the traffic does'. Because when I came the same route, the other side of the normal 2 way road, it had gone back from 20 mph to the 30mph on my Sat Nav. And that 50 mph had returned back to 30 mph for the return journey.
Oh, I forgot, they don't flick switches to change things any more, they just have poorly designed faultily designed software which no one has a clue how to resolve. And us poor motorists have our eyes glued to the Sat Nav to keep a close watch on this erratically changing speed limit...instead of the road...
I am going into hibernation until at least a week after the 20 mph speed change in Wales. Just absolute essential car journeys...

Last year there was just Pa Badger, I named him KissyKissy then because he had this obsession with giving Cat Midnight a nose kiss every time he saw him!
Midnight politely said NO initially, then Midnight's NO got a bit more vehement.
KissyKissy tried and tried and tried again. It appeared he wanted to jump on the swing like the cats! But never succeeded.
This was when I tied all the cloths to the back of the swing, because I would find all the swing cloths on the floor in the morning, and marked by KissyKissy...
My stray cats were here first, and the cat biscuits were only for them. Some visited only in the night. The cat biscuits are tucked at the back of the swing. There used to be more cats sleeping on the swing. And visiting...

Have a good day, and give the entrance to Wales a miss might be a good idea, because I read some places were going to have the side of the road still 30 mph for those people in England entering Wales so it wouldn't be too much a shock for those poor souls, but us who live in Wales will have the other side of the same 2 way road as 20 mph as we leave Wales.
Surely that would create a dissonance in our brains if we are driving on a two way road which has different speed limits either side of the road?

What you are describing about the roads is just plain confusing - another example of people in authority not aware of, or caring about, how the people who vote them into office will cope. I don't blame you for not wanting to travel on those roads until they get it sorted out. Are the English, these days, so thick that they can't read a road sign giving a speed limit for a section of road? I don't know, not having been in England for so long, but not so if contributors to this thread are anything to go by.

My old infant and junior school which was refurbished in the early nineties because the Victorian age building needed demolishing. Only six years ago, half of the new building was not fit for purpose, because of the flat roof structure. This was addressed paid for out of the council and raising money, the government declined money, and because it was used for poor children in a poor area. It only got a brief mention on the local radio news. Of course this was exacerbated by the decision by the government decisions to stop the rebuild schools programme in the first year of the new Tory government in 2010!I'm saying the media reporting that some - probably at least 5+% if we have 20k and there are 1k+ they will admit to - schools with old and or dangerous materials are a danger isn't insidiously negative it is just a fact. Even if the media never mentioned that the danger is unacceptable and still real. Put simply, don't shoot or ignore the messenger. Nations don't have mental health people do and appalling leadership or lack thereof is more dangerous than some ill defined entity with which one doesn't agree. Just giving something a derogatory label doesn't alter the truth Anyhow, Loretta -1 till tomorrow.

Hi Ann,8.1 at 3 am today. Currently 7.4.
Busy day coming up today - cleaner should be coming to do the floors about 10 am and I have an appointment (6 monthly) at the medical clinic at 2.30.
Neil has been told that his Crohn's consultant wants him down in Glasgow for a colonoscopy soon. Bit of a problem for him since he refuses to have photographic ID so he won't be allowed to fly. He could drive, but he's not all that confident about the car's ability to do the trip. Being stubborn is all very well but in today's world it just doesn't work. It could, of course, be done in Stornoway, but the Glasgow hospital doesn't seem to trust the work done here in our hospital.

That was that bad breakfast yesterday, and I only ate a bit of it...the fried egg, tomatoes (which had been microwaved), and the bacon which was over crispy. Then I realised the fat was old so stopped eating...
I wanted to know after yesterday with the the problems I had with the speed limit unpredictable variability in Wales at the moment.
How does sat nav know the speed limit?
So I googled.
"Speed limit information (SLI) systems inform the driver of the current speed limit by displaying it on the dashboard and/or navigation system. SLI uses cameras to recognise road signs or use speed-limit data from the navigation system."
Now the reason I ask this, is the where the 20mph sign has been taken completely down on one side of the road at one school, the speed limit on my sat nav is 30mph. But coming back on the same road, the 20 mph sign remains, and for that side of the road, my sat nav still shows the speed limit at 20mph.
This suggests to me that my car uses cameras or some such to recognise the speed limits from road signs actually on the road for its built in sat nav.
So all this removal, willy nilly at random, of the 20mph road signs pre the 20mph day of 17 Sept in Wales was a dangerous thing to do, especially outside schools. And also totally unnecessary because according to what I have read, the councils have something like 3 to 5 years to remove the unnecessary/surplus 20 mph signs which are outside schools etc. That does not have to be done yet. And the upshot of doing that action has meant traffic now drives past schools at 30 mph (because that is what their sat nav now shows the current speed limit is there) where there are no 20mph signs now, and I get impatient drivers beeping me and tailgating and overtaking me for doing 20mph past schools where there is now an absence of 20mph signs.
I have been googling how to put the speed limit warnings on google maps on my phone. Just set it up. Now I need to fix it to my dashboard (before I go out next) so I can see it easily when I am driving. Whatever system my phone uses to gauge the current speed limits, it will not be dependent on car cameras reading road signs...and I can see if the two different systems corroborate each other or not where the 20mph road signs have been removed.
