What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

We had a lovely walk at Sheringham Park today. Brilliant sunshine but very windy.

It was our first Sunday National Trust walk without Archie for 17 years. Sheringham Park was one of his favourite places.
We feel happy that he had a long and happy life but sad that he is no longer with us.

Today was a proper holiday day. No work at all was done.
 
It was good you got out Krystyna23040 a walk in the woods is very peace inducing and fits well how you will feel atm.

Em and her mum and dad visited this evening. Em's had her hair done again in about 7 different hues. Pretty but it makes her look so much older than 11. Not helped by the Goth style clothes (black with chains hanging from her leather belt and black, heavy boots with lots of buckles). I hope this is one of those phases that pass in time (rapidly). They brought Christmas presents, so I assume I shouldn't expect another visit before Christmas. Very kind of them - I really never expect presents and would rather they use their money on themselves. The thought was kind though, and I am grateful for their generosity.

I am told that the new pup keeps putting its head into the mouth of the Newfie and the Newfie is quite patient and let his tongue be chewed without batting an eyelid. Hugo - the Bassett hound - is not so patient though.
 
I have just realised as I wasn't sure of the date, that today, fifty years ago. I started in the car factory.
And I can remember it so clearly.
The different smells, the noise, the moving assembly lines and parts everywhere. The men on the lines working, looking at us as fresh meat, into the jaws of industry.
I started on the night shift, and my first job was finishing the exhaust system, tightening the exhaust clamps.
I think it was thirty bodies an hour for nine hours.
Engine oil, axle oil, and the rust protection got all over the overalls and cap you were given, thick gloves, which were always too big for me! Small but delicate hands, so adaptable but now full of arthritis now!
It is now close to fifteen years, since I took the redundancy!
Some good memories and people who are no longer with us!

Have found a red, full length skirt. Bought a couple of years ago and never worn. Still in packet. Really needs an underskirt. When it came I was disappointed that the fabric felt flimsy and the pockets were miniscule. Still it looks festive, but after two years in the packet badly in need of ironing.

Today very cold 2°c. Bought a couple more presents online, delivery promised for tomorrow. This evening was baking to take with us as gifts, however forgot to set timer and cakes are now slightly overcooked. Little bit burnt in fact. Not sure they will be acceptable. I really should have made these ginger cakes a week ago as they are best when given time to mature. But a week ago I was still lethargic and depressed. MrSlim really is a hero for putting up with me being sick and miserable for so long.
Now feeling slightly better and have two days to prepare for UK visit.
It's times like this that I wish I had a dog - the perfect way to escape any social gathering for a while. But I know I couldn't care for one properly, so it's not going to happen. Will instead be taking walks to "help the dinner go down". My sister has mentioned nine courses. Think I will struggle with that. Appetite is still small. Weight going down.
Am going to take my needlepoint with me. Acceptable occupation when reading, scrolling on phone is seen as antisocial.
 
The ginger cakes do look a bit dark, but I'm sure they are delicious. If you have time to make them again, I'm pretty sure you could make something delicious with those two, so worth taking along anyway.

I seem to have some left-over bread so have to think of something to do with that. I'm not prepared to throw it out. Thinking medieval style gingerbread - I think I have a recipe for that somewhere. If I can do that, it would be something to offer guests after Christmas. I don't expect to see anyone before that.
 
Great that you found something suitable to wear in your wardrobe. Red is definitely very festive.
 
Probably not possible to make the cakes again, am running out of ingredients, treacle is not easy to find here.
I have made Ginger and pear trifle in the past using purchased ginger cake. But for now I might just leave the darkest one here, a treat for when we get home.
@Annb With your left over bread, could you make bread pudding? Uses spices and fruit so quite seasonal. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/bread-pudding-0 of course it's not LC.
Or breadcrumbs to use later. MrSlim recently made pain perdu for lunch with a slightly stale baguette.

I will be able find out today if optician is correct over cataracts diagnosis,

One question. Do I let the Hospital Eye Specialist do all his regular checks and tests first, and ask him how my eyes are compared to last time. And then if he says everything is fine (obviously I am hoping for this one), then drop the optician cataract and offer of cataract operation bombshell.

I will peek in this morning for any advice you kindly offer me.

That sounds a very good option, the words are concise, gives the specialist all the information he needs in just a second and he can get on with this job.

@gennepher After my experience of being referred to one of these sausage machine companies doing work for N.H.S. supposedly like a private company. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
I was referred for my cataract by a optimetrist who sold glasses and no doubt was in a cosy relationship with the sausage machine.

It ultimately cost me £3000 and over a year suffering poor eyesight in one eye.

But some have a good experience with them.
I wouldn't throw the dice and take a chance again.
Knowing as I do, a man who comes highly recommended in the local area the head man at the hospital, who has is own private clinic, I would get referred locally and get it done and pay (within weeks) they also can tell you what's wrong on one visit.

Good to know our own strengths & weaknesses @gennepher .

But try not to be TOO firm ..

Don't want this turning into a hostage situation ..

I'd 2nd the plan for getting that second opinion before the testing starts.

I think a little 'its rather worried me, tbh ' would have most putting in that little extra effort to double check for you .

Praying it's a clear bill of eye health .."all good, see you again next year" scenario.

I'm off to my eye hospital this morning, think it's to check I'm fit for any operation they might do & a little chat about it.

So I'll definitely be thinking of you.
