What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Morning all on St Thomas' day. A core historical skill is sifting change and continuity from progress - discuss. @Annb I hope the power stays on and @dunelm and others I hope you keep yours. @dunelm thanks for sharing the art which ties in with the idea of plus ça change what with Christmases of yore showing b and w films and families looking through sepia photo albums. I hope you acquire the aspirational sourdough. Swordfish salad was wonderful yesterday. Busy day here today. Blue bin collection, surveyor for MIL's property, Drip Trip, recycling centre then venison (was it called Barry?) steak munching. One long social whirl. Take care all - @lindisfel rest between driving duties.

Good morning everyone on a blustery start to the day here in the dark and dangerous north. 5.7 this am. Confit duck last night, marvellous. I am wondering if the bake house will be open today to get our sourdough. It sits high up overlooking the sea and it’s a bit windy out there. No matter if not, just have to go bread free for a week - can’t eat that stodge that supermarkets try and tell you is bread. The in store baked stuff could easily be a year old, frozen and then finished off in the supermarket. Yuk! No idea what today will bring - how exciting. Art bit, just one colour, Paynes Grey and a sprinkle of salt on the foreground while it was still damp. Hope your day is kind to you especially with all the nutters running around filling shopping trollies in readiness for the 24 hr shopping embargo. Best go and make some koffy.
This Art Bit is absolutely wonderful @dunelm

I wasn't fool enough to go into Morrisons car park yesterday, but those that did got caught in a 3 hour gridlock snarl up, and were unable to leave for several hours...

Thank you @ianpspurs and all the best for the Drip Trip.

Thank you @gennepher. Supermarkets are not a good place to visit right now. Probably also Covid hot spots.

Surely Rish! can just pass a law which says we don't have any COVID if we say we don't - we put it all on a plane to a really, really safe place. That's how we roll now.

A win for the meal .

Hope the trip goes smoothly, in both ways.

Looking at my willow, the sap is rising. Surely this is too early?

The birds, especially seagulls, are having difficulty in this wind...but the little sparrows are feeding off the fatballs...

Wildlife nighttime video...
Cat Midnight & Badger & Fox
Midnight snarls at something out of sight, I am assuming Boy Badger because he appears next, and then Foxy Loxy jumps on the swing, looks around and jumps off...
37secs
This is the last time you will see the swing with these covers and large cushions on.
I have taken them all off. And for a few days, I had nothing else, but cardboard on the swing and on the back of it.
No one wanted to get on the swing not even the cats, but I was trying to deter the two male badgers from forever, disturbing the cats that sleep on the swing.
Will I succeed?
At the end of the day, this is not appropriate behaviour for badgers.
Pa Badger started this behaviour last year, and his son is following him.
I do not need a whole tribe of badgers on this swing...
Big Ted now, reappears on the swing. The easiest way of sorting big Ted out after the badger damaged him early this year was to buy a blue eight year-old boys hooded onesie from the charity shop and put that on him.
Big Ted now looks like an airline pilot from a World War I plane...
But unfortunately you won't see him on the general trail camera videos because I've had to tie him to with an inch of his life to the far back of the swing to stop Pa Badger from yanking him off the swing.

Tomorrow starts a new era on the trail cam videos. Will Pa Badger and Boy Badger still try to get on the swing? Will Foxy Loxy still try to get on the swing? Who knows?

What I have done is not put the cushions ( I bought a pile of small cushions from the charity shop) right up to the front of the swing to make it harder for the badger to grip on to get on the swing, because now there is a few inches of wood which is the swing before the cushions start....

See what happens in tomorrow's video...

Might lose some followers! It is more interesting to watch the badger do something out of the ordinary, rather than just pootling around, getting grubs and worms out the ground. But hey life changes, as the badgers are about to find out...

Creative. Used Sketch Club app to do another Chinese painting... added a bit of colour of this one...

I am tired now I need a nap.

Have your best day....

All the best with the battle of the badgers. Wonderful painting and so much expression with those trees.

This is a photo of the Arc Germanicus which is situated on the riverbank at the end of the street where my parents live. In front is a large gravel area that last week held Christmas stalls and an ice rink. All gone now as the river has burst its banks. To the left is a footbridge which takes people across to the centre of the city and the Cathedral - now temporarily closed - what a palaver. Nice photo though.

Happy national bin day afternoon everyone.

Blood sugars this morning were 5.8

This morning I was taken to the local Waitrose store for the yearly gawk at the prices and could mutter “ How much? “ .

I did incurr the wrath of Mrs J, it’s easily done all you need do is wander off with the shopping trolley while making sure your mobile telephonic communicator turned off. Apparently Mrs J rang me 3 times, but I’ve only got her word for that. Mrs J is somewhat open to exaggeration when it comes to my actions.

Now it’s time for my afternoon nap prior to the grandchildren turning up to raid the sweets on the Christmas trees, yes 2, Mrs J has two Christmas trees.

Nite night.

I gave the hug for Mrs A J. As for you, do be brief. If one lives in Tilehurst of course one Waitroses - be a good boy and just pony up. Enjoy those grandchildren - priceless.

I'm, feeling pretty disgusted at the Royal Mail at the moment. All the posties have been working flat out, starting 2 hours before their contracted time, no days off until Christmas for all of this month, they've done a delivery already today but it was light because the mail is stuck on the mainland due to the weather. Now they have to go in for a night shift to sort the mail that does come off the ferry when it arrives (4 big lorry loads, apparently) and then start their day work at 6 am. Now they have been told that, because the mail couldn't get here (bad weather and the mail plane broke down yesterday so didn't get here either) they will not be receiving their Christmas bonus which will be paid to posties on the mainland (whose job it is to get the mail here). Where's the justice in that?

A few years ago the Royal Mail gave Christmas bonuses, a sheet of stamps to send Christmas cards, a box of chocolates AND they employed temporary staff to help out with the sorting and delivery. Changed days. This year, no extra help, no chocolates (not for the last 2 years either), half a sheet of stamps and no bonus! Add to that the increase in the cost of postage and the picture is one of penny pinching exploitation. All because the business was privatised. Any injustice angers me, but this comes close to home.

Good old Caius Julius Rufus building such an edifice at the end of your parents street.

Good old Caius Julius Rufus building such an edifice at the end of your parents street.
It used to sit astride the main bridge over the river until those cunning C19th folk moved in down the river bank a bit in anticipation of motorised transport as can be seen on this old B&W medieval photo.
