What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Actually, I do seem to have contracted, or at least been exposed to, several diseases in childhood, none of which had the slightest effect on me. My brother had polio at the age of 6, when I was 3. I showed no ill effects, but when tested in my teens pre vaccination was told I had had polio so no vaccination was needed. I also seem to have had TB, without knowing it. I was never aware of mumps, measles or chickenpox but actually did develop a bit of a rash with rubella (no vaccine for any of those way back then). It lasted a couple of days and that was it! Despite coming into contact with all of the childhood diseases in my 20's, when the boys were young, I never seemed to have been affected. So, perhaps I did have some, or all of them, without symptoms or knowing anything about it. Rude health back then.

Pity it isn't the same story with T2 or arthritis.

03.45 today BG was 7.9. Em came in on her way to school - her Mum had had an epileptic fit (got over it) and her Dad dropped her here early. She had 11/2 crumpets and butter. I had the last half. Then I made the mistake of following it up with a few grapes, shared with Em before she headed off to school. BG shot up to 12.9! Silly me.
 
If you get shingles the route is anti virals and gabapentin for pain.
I got treated early and the pain in my left arm resolved eventually.

In my case, GP didn't offer any treatment - maybe because he knew I'd had the vaccination - but told me to take paracetemol for the pain. I was already taking it for arthritis anyway, so couldn't take more. Just as well it didn't last long or spread far.
 
I have already had the independent candidates through the letterbox...well their leaflets of fairy stories @JohnEGreen my gates are locked so they cannot get at my doorbell...

Lovely rose, lovely picture. One of my rosa rugosas has a rather battered flower on it. The rest haven't bothered at all so far. Long shoots looking for a home but I think they've decided not to bother with flowers this year. They're usually covered in flowers in the summer.
 
Same here, normally the roses are tumbling down in unbelievable massive bunches. But I still have quite a few. Must be too wet for them this year @Annb

EDIT this year only one apple on my 3 apple trees, no pears on pear trees, and no cherries on the cherry trees. No raspberries this year either...l

Yes, the anti virals are very effective. Unfortunately my client's doctor didn't recognise that she had shingles and didn't prescribe anti virals - which would have worked because she went immediately the rash started as she suspected shingles.

By the time they realised she had shingles it was then too late for the anti virals to work - which was why she was so badly affected.
 
Good that you had the vaccine which would have protected you from a much more severe dose of shingles.

Wow, those independent candidates must be even smaller than Rishi if they were able to get through your letterbox with their leaflets @gennepher
 
6.6 on this fun filled freaky Friday.
It was worzel gummidge day in the Lamont household. And of course it took a lot of kerfuffle to get there.
I will start with, which idiot, said it was a good idea to split Mrs L 's morning meds.
Not only could Mrs L remember, but she demanded a cuppa, and couldn't have one until an half hour later.
I thought I could do it! It did in the end. But dear me. ***.
Mrs L got confused when getting ready to go out to the hairdressers, she kept repeatedly saying why are we going to the doctors? It didn't stop until I I opened the shop door.
By the time, I got her home a good your later, leaving a nice tip, to the girls, cos they did a great job.
I was knackered.
Hang on there.
If you may remember and it brought a huge smile to Mrs L 's face and mine, was our great niece, who we fostered for a couple of years, as a baby. It was great to see her, and introduce her new boyfriend.
We talked and talked and laughed and has offered to help if my niece is not working.

My plants and roses are behind as are my prized lilys. We could do with constant warmth and sunshine, and the cold nights near freezing don't help, as doesn't the amount of rain. Not a good summer at all. And no sign of it changing.

Just got my feet up in time for the footie.
