Worst that could happen is that you injure yourself, so do be careful with that saw and hammer.Just been outside to look at my driveway entrance. Years ago I had my driveway widened by the width of 2 large paving stones, in case I ever needed to widen the entrance.
The day has come. I am going to try (I do have a sledgehammer in the garage, but the chances of me wielding that are nil), with my heavy plumbers hammer to knock down about 3 foot of wall, the wall was built 1970...and is covered in 50+ year's old ivy. My secateurs, though sharp, won't tackle those thick stems of ivy. I need a saw...
It's either this, or on a dark stormy rainy night, with the limited amount of leeway between those 2 cars, and me being tired at the end of a long day, there is a possibility of me clipping one or other of the cars.
I watched another car just now, and there was virtually nil leeway wing mirrors to wing mirrors. That's what made my decision to do this in the next few days.
What's the worst that can happen...
I was thinking that maybe the whole wall could come down not just 3 or 4 foot .. @AnnbWorst that could happen is that you injure yourself, so do be careful with that saw and hammer.
And a hug emoji for your blood sugar readings @alf_JosiahGood afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.
My blood sugars this morning were an interesting 8.5 , but well within my hospital given limits, ah the joys of Prednisolone.
@gennepher : Your neighbours seemingly unreasonable parking behaviour has made me think about their vehicles being accidentally damaged one dark and wet evening and as for another of your neighbours parcel delivery, they appear to made their own life difficult.
Now I’m not suggesting for one moment that you damage their vehicles but underneath my hairy, bearded obese exterior I cannot stop these thought entering my one celled brain.
Enjoy the rest of the day all.
Live close to a footie ground, on a match day!Parking wars - seems to be the on the increase. Bit petty and what an obnoxious neighbour getting all in a flux about you kindly taking in her parcel - good grief! Lovely kaleidoscope - that’s brightened up my day already.
No chance of fulfilling that lot @ianpspurs@gennepher hugs for #parkinggate and the ill mannered neighbour. Thank you for the bright and cheery kaleidoscope. Never mind the tools, beware falling bricks and there will probably be a trench to infill if the wall has stood that long. Hardhat, googles, gloves, hi viz , mask and so much more are compulsory these days
A kirkby kiss is often used to dispel disgruntled neighbours, who have not read the commandments!Thank you @Krystyna23040 for the kaleidoscope compliment
They are very petty here about their cars and do not like anyone else parking in the road outside their houses, and ask them to move.
I could not understand her anger towards me, all she had to do was say please don't take any more of my parcels, but she was absolutely furious. If her parcel was that important she should have stayed at home. It was an Amazon parcel, so she could have had it delivered to a local post office
I'm assuming it is a variant on the Glasgow kiss - Rab C Nesbitt is one of my favourite philosophers. Although I don't condone violence there is a certain poetic justice in the denouement - old Suffolk word for 'ave itA kirkby kiss is often used to dispel disgruntled neighbours, who have not read the commandments!
I thought 'ave it' was a technical term in footie?I'm assuming it is a variant on the Glasgow kiss - Rab C Nesbitt is one of my favourite philosophers. Although I don't condone violence there is a certain poetic justice in the denouement - old Suffolk word for 'ave it
That is really good news @gennepherMaybe no wall demolition needs to take place? It has already been done for the bit needed?
So sorry your father is not very well @dunelm, but having you and your brother for company will help.Good afternoon everyone. 5.5 this am and then things to do. Dad not very well - not eating and not doing too well with the protein shakes that have been prescribed. My brother is on his way home after visiting and I am flying out on Monday. So, placed a prescription order first thing this morning and added a note to ask for it to be hastened.
Walked down to GP surgery (belt and braces) -informed that I need to phone the GP surgery number and choose option 2, the prescription team (they have a prescription team!!!)
Option 2 - you are 20, 005 in the queue - wait, wait, wait. OK, your prescription is in with the GP now and should be signed by lunch time.
Wandered round to cafe.
Text message 20 minutes later - prescription signed and sent electronically to pharmacy.
Wandered round to pharmacy - yes it’s just come in on our system.
Good - can I collect it tomorrow - yes, after 10am.
Must be something in the water (bromide perhaps) - will it work as smoothly again? Who knows. For now though I am rich beyond compare in the GP department - wonder if their new, flash, all singing, all dancing 8am lottery telephone appointment booking system will work as well. Also noticed that we now have a keypad thing to book yourself into the surgery rather than queuing to let the receptionist know that you have arrived for your appointment.
Into Sainsbury to buy the old boy a pack of their Kenya tea and then home.
Art bit - sketch of the fjord at Flåm.
“Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six , result happiness.
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery”
― Charles Dickens, David Copperfield.
May your expenditures in life be always light of incomes.
Brilliant! I wish I'd thought of that @'gennepher.By the way, I knew someone who had those protein shakes. Whenever I visited, he would add a generous helping of whiskey to them, said they were undrinkable otherwise.
What sort of brute savage are you man, making tea with teabags and in a cup/mug?Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen and those in the dog house, yep me, me’s and myself. When I made MrsJ’s tea this morning I left the tea bag in and when Mrs J complained I showed no remorse.
Blood sugars this morning were 6.2
I shall be unsupervised all of today, Mrs J is orf to Mordor with some of her fiends. Ladies wot chat, drink tea, eat cake etc, etc etc.
I have a man coming to quote on lopping some high hedges this morning, but then I shall be free.
Stay safe, stay away from Mordor, especially around the Covent Garden area. Remember to smile and if you see one bark at the postman ;-) .
I think you could find an old landrover - they are wide, very wobbly to dirve and don’t mind being bashed about -oops, oops, sorry, oops! Failing that, I still have a current tracked vehicle licence and know where I can borrow an old armoured personnel carrier. Not getting much sleep...I hurt too much...my hands hurt too much...my fault...
Will take it very easy to do the rest of that ivy, even if it takes a month.
It is a bind growing old and having arthritis...
But I am still very pleased I got that much of an inroad done...showing the job was possible.
It will make it much easier to do that turn/swing out of my driveway when those 2 idiots are parking opposite each other...
Just drinking a cuppa tea...waiting for the pain relievers to kick in......
And the badger (Pa Badger) is looking at me through my full length glass door into the garden which is right besides my bed. Cat Midnight is sitting right by the window looking at him....how many people get this closeness to nature's beasties in the night...even though I might say a few naughty words in the morning when I find out what mischief he's been up to...
Back to sleep. Hand massager is now on my other hand...I feel like a Borg with this arm extension...this one goes half way up my arm (I have 3 different ones)...
Night night, sleep tight...don't let those bed bugs bite...
