What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there Ann.
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round

The desire to mythologise, cling on to and return to a bygone age lies at the heart of Brexit and MAGA imho. And yes, before anyone points out the b****ing obvious it lies at the heart of my (current?) inability to find real peace and happiness. We are but human, it is what we do when seeking comfort.

I first started getting into Family History when I wanted to try to find my cousin - one year older than me and my best friend when we were teenagers but things changed, lives got mixed up and my part of the family lost touch with hers. Despite all my searches and discoveries I never managed to find Joyce or her brother. Recently I did manage to find her father (her mother died in the 80's, just before we lost touch) and found that he had died in 1999. Dead end. Then I found, on the Ancestry website, a tree matching mine. It seems that Joyce's brother died in 2021, so was shown on the family tree but Joyce was not shown - being still alive. The tree is owned by what I think is her son - who I last saw as a small child in 1970. I sent him a message but it appears he hasn't used the site in the last year and a half and he hasn't responded. So near, yet so far.

Good that you finally were able to get to bed @Annb

yes @ianpspurs there was a sausage roll for Mr K.

I do understand how you feel about your MiL living with yo u. We promised my father in law that he would never go into a home. He lived with us for 3 years as his dementia got progressively worse. I must admit that we did regret that promise - which became impossible to keep at the end..

Lovely autumnal scene @dunelm

I hate technology @Annb

I am up the wall with this...

Thanks @ianpspurs
There is no other way to be.
The sooner you plod your way through, the sooner you get to a better place.

I've lost a lot. A load of research. Largely I was backing up as I went along, but the last few days I was finding a different way to try and back up, consequently I'd not backed up the last few days research, but I expect the blooming iPad iPad to work, as these devices are meant to do...

I think I have repaired the iPad mini by doing the reset and deleting everything. The business of the frozen screen remained for half an hour after it restarted and it kept asking me to put my name password ID etc in again and again.

Initially I thought the reset had failed but in between each time I put in my password it seemed to progress a bit further and repairing it is all I can think of, and then it went back to the hello beginning screen again.

I am still waiting for it to reinstall and this is taking an awful long time so I'm just hoping it's successful but I've got nothing to do to be able to do any work in the meantime because both iPads are out of out of commission while this is happening/updating

I just have to be patient and tell it is all done, but I think I've saved myself a whole bunch of money and done just as well as what any computer p shop or Apple store would have done.

But the true answer will come tomorrow morning probably when the whole thing is done & dusted.

I reckon it would take me a couple of weeks to do the research again, some things I just cannot get back, but hopefully this will have saved me the cost of a new iPad mini which is not cheap.

Oh no @gennepher. What a nightmare. I think you Deserve a sherry.

6.4 this #8 birthday.
No cake later. Grrr!

It is a beautiful day today, have had chance to sit in the sun.

And that is where I'm going until the fun descends.

Have a wonderful day, I will try.
My best wishes to you lot as always.

I love the circle game by Joni Mitchell @ianpspurs

You could try contacting the send again @Annb , because I know any messages to me on ancestry are also sent by email to me. The email could have got mislaid, or accidentally going to spam etc. so the way I am thinking is send a son a message every few months or so because at some point because there's a better chance of him getting an alert than if you just leave it be...

The other thing that is Facebook which he could be on. He might be on other social media. I would certainly be investigating a little bit further into his whereabouts or how to get a contact to him, even if it ends up in a dead end.

I am a bit like a dog worrying a bone, and I don't get give up until I find something even if it may not be what I want...

I'm not on Facebook or any of those other social media thingies, but DIL is. Maybe she could put a message up for me. I know this man's name and parentage. It might be possible. Thanks, Gennepher.

Thank you @ianpspurs - walking, especially through the woods and down the beach certainly helps. Trees, wildlife, sand, sea, breeze and a spot of sunshine - smashing.

Smashing piece - I like the almost simplicity and looseness of it. A mid morning sherry is always a good idea and it’s mid morning somewhere all the time. I do like some of the dry sherries.

In my experience finding real peace and happiness is a state of mind. I switched off from excessive following our media output many years ago, I glance at newspaper headlines. No more than that.

In the words of that comedian Fredrick Dave Allen “ may your God go with you “.

I hope you find pleasure in watching sport and not being fixated on any particular sportspersons or teams.

To question beliefs is a very important in my opinion, but I firmly believe in science.

@gennepher
Your perseverance with your technology is a true example to confirmed “Luddites” like myself. I hope you win your battles.

Thank you very much @alf_Josiah
I will dive in where angels fear to tread....nothing to lose...

Have spent some time turning out kitchen cupboards. Now have what MrSlim described as " a mixed bag end of shelf life meals" to plan.
Thunderstorm had Kiki following me about, but still not accepting cuddles. Closed the gates just in case, but seems it wasn't neccessary here. Unlike a friend not far away who has flooding again.
I was touched to get messages from several friends checking on me after the storm.
@Annb am not scared of spiders, but was not happy to find a large one under my pillow a few nights ago.
