A horrible day indeed .A friend called around.
he told us of a horrendous day on the peninsula.
a motorcyclist died of his injuries, as he lost control, and at speed, he came off. This happened just down my road, going towards town.
The motorway was closed due to an accident this afternoon.
I'm my old neighbourhood, a juggernaut took out a learner driver.
And just as the shock of that was wearing off, an old neighbour from across the road has died.
They moved a few years ago. And we only just found out last week, that she had cancer.
Mrs L is devastated.
I can't believe this awful day.
A carefully written letter @gennepher that succinctly covers your salient points.The stress of trying to write this letter to the court sent me into a deep sleep for the rest of today, and I have just woken up.
Not eaten, still not fully ok from last week, although all my vitals are fine.
I submitted what I needed to say to ChatGPT (I have used this service several times before but just for a couple of sentences), not something as complex as this. I explained the situation and what I needed from it. And then submitted @jjraak 's suggestions, and some of mine (and I was getting bogged down with detail in trying to explain, you lot know I have a problem with conciseness).
ChatGPT came back with a respectful formal letter to the judge (I do find ChatGPT rather Americanised, but it is still useful)
Here is the main body of its letter to the Judge.
"I am writing to respectfully request to be excused from jury duty due to my profound deafness and associated disabilities. I have been summoned to serve on [Date], but I believe my condition significantly limits my ability to fully and effectively participate in the proceedings.
As a person who is profoundly deaf, I rely heavily on alternative communication methods, which would present significant barriers during jury deliberations and throughout the trial process. Additionally, I have other related disabilities that further hinder my ability to fully engage in the proceedings.
I am including a letter from my healthcare provider that outlines my condition and supports this request for an excusal from court duties.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration of my request. Please let me know if you require any further information."
Seeing as we now have a doctorless surgery, a locum letter from some unknown place would most likely be worse than useless. But I do have a letter from the cochlear implant hospital which explains my hearing limitations. It is 8 years old but the info still stands. If the court ask for a more recent one, then I will contact the hospital. I also have my paper repeat prescription of several pages which is the medicines and devices needed for my problems, and I shall add that as 'proof' of my disabilities.
I'll rewrite (and shorten) the letter above when I wake up tomorrow morning. I cannot do any more tonight. I need a break from this and to write my post and take a photo before it gets dark.

A beautiful painting for your art bit.Good morning everyone, just, from a cold yet sunny morn here in the dark and dangerous north. Arrived home last night just before 2030 after a 12 hour journey sitting on a variety of public transport seating which included trains, planes, trams and a replacement bus service (grrrh! - must have been leaves on the line). Laundry done and out on the line, shopping foraged and the slow cooker is bubbling away making a batch of veg soup into which I threw some herbs, pepper, turmeric, ginger, garlic, chili flakes and a big dollop of white miso paste. I will thicken it using a blitzed up can of cannellini beans and waving a stick wand into it and making incantations. Art bit - a doodle with a bit of colour. Hope your day has a bit of fun in it. As Dame Edna once said to Jeffery Archer, “if you can’t laugh at yourself, you may be missing out on the greatest joke of the century”. Might make some more koffy.
Good news on arriving home safely despite the bus journey triggering your (performative/confected? - borrowed from JRM, forgive me,) Grumpy Old (Northern) Man reflex. Thanks in descending order for me - for: the Dame Edna quote on the fragrant Mary's husband, tip on the use of cannellini beans as a thickener ( personally not sure about any of the flavourings apart from garlic and unlikely to make soup but useful for casseroles?) and art. The art is wonderful as per, it is just that my world view goes words, food then art out of those options. Hanging out washing is another not for me lifestyle choice, now given a perfect excuse by summer's skin condition when in truth I always disliked how harsh clothes, especially towels and polo shirts, felt dried that way. I never found the very faint smell of “fresh air” remotely compensated in any way. Glad we are all different, makes the thread more interesting. it has been another adventure this morning,
I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas!
Mrs L has been busy with preparations for the big day.
The gammon for Boxing day is in soak, the pork has been put back in the freezer, as well as other chrimbo stuff.
With the chores getting done the chance for Mrs L to help with other Christmas duties.
I had already explained twice before, I went and did the bedroom and put the laundry on.
Mrs L asked why I hadn't done the Christmas decor.
And where was her chrimbo ornaments?
I have once again been very diplomatic and explained, however, by the time #3 son arrived with #8, Mrs L had stopped thinking of Christmas and started providing the ratbag with plenty of goodies.
My chores took a time out except for washing line duties.
The weather is pleasingly mild and sunny the grass is still wet, so we p!she'd in the front garden on the drive.
The wind has damaged my big plants.
It was a relief to play.
Mrs L has had a nap, and then an accident, and more washing is in the machine. And I'm hoping that the laundry will dry in the garden.
It is on the line now following the rules laid down by all our beloved ladyfolk.
Mrs L needs more tea.
Just to add, there only the one fatality yesterday, that I'm aware of.
It is footie night, and I will be back after that.
