I was so pleased with the way I ate last Sunday -- meatballs and a salad that included some chicken -- until Sunday night, which was sleepless because of stomach pain, followed by a Monday of stomach upset that kept me home all day.

Yesterday (Tuesday) after my doctor's appointment I ate very badly -- at McDonald's -- and something that else that woke me up early this morning with horrible heartburn. I deserved that -- and hopefully the memory will keep me out of McDonald's in the future, despite the fact that the McRib is back. :(

I'm back to wanting something similar to what I wished for last year -- some sort of 1950s astronaut meal-in-a-tube, "Diabetic Formula #3," etc. Just uncap and squeeze, like the KittenCat's hairball remedy.

Hugs for you.

It would be lovely if there were something simple like that. A diabetic formula in a tube, with the vitamins and minerals we need as well.
So, we go and get the tests on a weekly or monthly basis. And then we get issued with directions which tube of formula to eat over the coming week or month. And in this way we are at optimum level all the time!

It will happen one day!

@gennepher hope your lunch was good and a good catchup with friends.

I am awake at 1:30 am so I may as well post my photos now!

I had a good meal @PenguinMum thank you for asking. It was a good catch up!

We met in the Pet Cemetery...

There is a good cafe there which is very popular.

I took some photos after.

There were many beautiful graves in the Pet Cemetery. Many full life statues of their loved animals. Many etchings on marble. It is a beautiful peaceful place.

There are a lot of horse graves with beautiful flowers and individually tended plots, and beautiful names of the horses.

A lot of dog graves with beautiful statues, real life sized individually commissioned statues. Also some small ones. One person appeared to have had little Yorkshire terriers, and they had a miniature statue of each one they’d had over the years.

A lot of cat graves. Many with etchings on shiny marble as the one above who was called Princess.

And other pets too.

It really is a lovely place. And the food is good at their cafe.

Then I went on to the fabric mills...more material, more Berber fur fabric (some in a beautiful mint green...I loved the freshness of the colour, and what on Earth am I going to make with it???), some more wools. Bumped into someone I knew there, with her 90 something year old mother...and I am thinking OMG if only I look as good as that when I am in my 90’s!!!! So an unexpected coffee with them there.

And the ship picture is The Duke of Lancaster which has been berthed there 40 years now I think. It’s had a checkered history. It was an intended graffiti art gallery outside on it some years ago. It was a show piece. But recently it’s all been painted over. Sad because I liked the art on it. I did take loads of photos of the graffiti, so I am glad I have a record of something which is not there any more

I came home a happy little bunny!!! Went to bed early as I was tired...hence me being awake now! It’s 2 am now. Another cuppa and I should be asleep soon...

Good morning everyone from a, so far, very dark but not visibly dangerous north.

The wonder wheel of out for dinner with some of our offspring and their offspring heralded a 5.3 this am. Must have been that all so lightly applied tempura on the whitebait. Never mind.

The purpose of the dinner was to catch up with grandchildren really. Oldest, 15, is going to Iceland with the school on a geography trip - she is already packed and raring to go. Her brother, 10 who plays football for the county, is off to Barcelona for a football tournament. Never had these opportunities when I was at school (there was a scout camp once to the Isle of Man) so very pleased that they get to do these things.

Like others on this thread and elsewhere in the multiverse, I am constantly surprised at fasting readings and the ups and downs of the life of blood. With the libre I sometimes get a lovely flat 8 hour line with a constant reading of about 4 or maybe 4.5 or for no discernible reason at all 6. Other periods, it’s like a roller coaster - the night before last, during sleep, it went from 5 down to about 2 then up to 6, down again to about 2; two more bends and twists and then “wake up, here comes Mr Liver”.

Although I do low carb - I do find that too much protein, especially later in the day, can mess things up. So, as I only really eat twice a day, I have most of my protein at around lunch time and the rest for dinner. I wonder, as I write this, if I should eat more often but smaller portions - snacking so to speak - but then what would it be? Beef broth is always good. Crackers - I do need to make a fresh batch of crackers today.

Have a wonderful day if you can, have a read of how the inventor of blood sugar tests had to wait 13 years for compensation https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50156965

Fbg 6.7

Because I was up in the middle of the night as I had gone to bed early because my day tired me out, I spent my wakeful hour posting some pics in this thread on the Pet Cemetery where I met my friends for lunch.

Then, it was easy to go back to sleep again and I have just woken up at 6am. So I have had two stretches of sleep which came to about 8 hours in total. So that is good.

I really enjoyed myself yesterday.

Have a good day everyone.
And @PenguinMum good for you in writing that letter to the specialist about your treatment.

Take care
Have fun
Do what makes you feel happy

A winner for the photo’s and your wonderful spirit - hope the actual lunch went well (low fat, high carb folk).

Thanks for that link. I didn’t think much of his employer saying...the company was "disappointed" with the decision to award Dr Shanks "a share of the licence revenue...”

There are many inventors that companies benefit from to a great monetary degree. The individuals also don’t get recognised for what they have invented. And they invent some tremendous things.

This poor guy ended up with poor health for fighting this. I don’t know how a fair system could be put into place.

To me, although a share in the patent profits would be good, the most important part would be recognition for my work in the matter.

I designed something in the 1970’s, and approached a magazine with it. They never got back to me, but a few months later in the magazine they had blatantly copied my design. And no credit to me, nor did I receive any money for it (I was hoping for some money at the time as I needed it). I still remember the hurt when I went into the newspaper shop and saw the magazine. I have never brought that magazine again.

And back to our diabetes, like you I am also experimenting when to eat the protein in the day, and what type of protein. I can get my readings to be pretty much constant in the 6’s (occasional 5’s) the way I am eating at the moment. But the 6’s in the day are lower or higher depending when I eat protein and the type of protein.

Nuts appear to be the exception to that rule. I can pretty much nibble nuts at any time aBut I do need to lose more weight (I am losing slowly), but I would like more weight to disappear (a fairy with a magic and anywhere?). However I find that eggs are the best thing among the protein family to help me lose weight. I also find that slice of cheese will reduce my blood sugar readings if they are close to the 7’s.

Thank you @Muddy Cyclist

For once, no one commented on my choice of food!!! They did last year and were opinionated on it and I was prepared for ‘battle’, but they all had their life’s problems so my choice of food was the least of their concerns yesterday :)

Their food was very high carb. Some are diabetics. One is severely diabetic. He eats all the wrong foods in spades. And my nurse friend who is his very close friend is very dedicated in pushing his food choices to low fat high carb. So the pressure was off me, but I find it sad.

So do I @gennepher, I watched a friend drink 3 pints of beer, eat fish and chips and a lemon meringue whilst telling me he was watching his sugar intake, I gently explained carbs but he said it was OK because the carb percentage that is sugar was low. Not to spoil the meal I kept quiet, said friend already knows my diet. Next day I sent him link to information re carbs on this site, he responded with ' I am reading it now, thank you' I hope it helps this friend.

Greetings fellow travellers through the diabetic maze of mystery. In summary I slept until around 6.00 again, fbg mayhap 5.3 and weight marginally lower. All this on the back of OMAD yesterday. Plenty of analysis of food and drink, reading and watching videos on the wonders of LC and mostly self denial. On its own terms my n=1 study concludes LC is no big deal and very weak on nutrition and joy. It greatly over promises and under delivers for me. Taste wise, the devil has the best tunes. All i can do is acknowledge that and accept discipline trumps pleasure with my T2. Other people have a very different experience and the results to match. Looks to me like it really is highly individual and changes nearly daily for many of us or, if @dunelm's Libre is correct , even several times a day. Seems pretty random as to how effective day to day or even long term this will be for any of us. Them's my onions. Have a good day folks.

Morning All. 6.5 which I am disappointed with because I ate very frugally and LC yesterday. Could it have been the flu jab? Most likely still being punished for double dinner the night before. @karen8967 gosh thats all scary and must have made you feel horrible, hope you return to better levels as the day goes on. Take care.
@gennepher I enjoyed the pet cemetary photos at 04.30 but was too sleepy to post then. I didnt know there were such places but I suppose its not that surprising because so many people want to honour their beloved pets. When our Ginger left us we took his ashes back to the meadow where as young boy he loved to hunt (near our previous home) and was famous for exiting at dusk with something large in his mouth. Glad the lunch went well and was a good reunion with friends. Hope you all have a good Thursday. Stay well, stay safe.

Morning...my first 'proper' sleep in roughly ten days bed at midnight & not up until 7am...what a luxury...cheque paid into the bank yesterday...Halloween sweets gathered for next week...a full shop done although I copped out and did it online amazing you can order the same day & have a delivery in the evening...car is being serviced today (a full fat service) always feels odd not to have it parked outside...must try & regulate my carb intake now work has eased I have no excuse...oh wait...friends for dinner later but I am going to try & resist the carb laden parts of our meal...woke to a 6.4

Onions I am becoming more and more in agreement with. However I am not sure I am ready or ever will want to put the alternative NHS suggested diet to the test as I suspect it will give even higher BG readings and I saw what happened to my old mom, not pleasant. Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't, and so we struggle on.
