What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

FBG 6.1 at 2.45 am. Cup of tea. Unusually, I couldn't get comfortable in the chair so went back to bed. Woke up about 8 am by which time BG was 8.9.

DIL is down somewhere near Norwich right now. She's delivered all the pups to their new homes and is collecting her new dog - a basset hound. He currently lives somewhere around Norwich but I don't know where. He's already grown up, so no more puppy problems and he's too short to get over the fences. It's going to be a bit of a shock for him coming to our climate and meeting up with Banksie who must be at least twice his size.

Alistair and Em have gone on this morning's ferry to deliver the remaining 5 pups to places in the north of Scotland and then get back to Inverness this evening and do some shopping in the morning before heading back to Ullapool and the ferry where, with luck, they will meet up with the other expeditioners and travel back together. It has to work - DIL has a job interview on Monday. It's a part-time job that would allow her to keep the laundry going at the same time. She's finding the care work she has been doing too heavy and her damaged neck just isn't up to it.
Very busy. I hope the timing works as they need it to @Annb

Afternoon all.

A balmy 6.4.

It is what it is..I think the modern vernacular goes.

Definitely feeling the muscular aches from the gym the other day.
And I mean, in a good way.

Quite looking forward to the upcoming gym visit.

A dullish day here.

Have the furry nephew, so I'm keen to hit Richmond park, but I'm sure to be out voted with two votes for Chiswick house & puppachinos... :hilarious:

Off out now,
See y'all later.
You have a great walk @jjraak

Morning all. @gennepher thanks for another sheep creative. I'm thinking pointillism but what do I know, what do I know?. @dunelm you must be enjoying all those meals out or at least I would as I have this idea that French cuisine is and France in general is more sophisticated than Perfidious Albion at least the mythical version being sold these last few years. Probably just their superior PR and leasers. Thanks for the art which far from a ruin shows the enduring strength of something well planned and constructed with skill, care and accordance to eternal wisdom. Odd day here yesterday. Extra school pickup and quick turnaround to take grandson to stage school in the town of midget jockeys. MIL in hospital with pneumonia, JKP and No 1 son back home late with a Chinese takeaway. I ate four sweet and sour pork balls - amazingly wonderful with crispy batter and they were hot both of which I feel is a USP for that provider. Earlier I had a good telephone consultation including result of the scan from a couple of weeks ago. Off into The Fens soon to my parents' grave then back here for rugger oggling. Deep breaths as half term next week with 2 days of 4 grandchildren scheduled. Y'all have as good a day as circs allow.
Sorry to hear MIL has pneumonia and has had to go to hospital. Hope she recovers soon.
Good to hear that your telephone conversation went well - hope the scan results were good too.
Good luck with the 4 grandchildren over the half term. The good thing about having these lovely creaturees in your life and home is that they can be given back at the end of the period. Enjoy their childhood as much as you can - they grow up far too fast.

Em was here yesterday evening and made the mistake of asking Neil a question about the historic size of Canada which led to a long lecture on the history of the United States and Canada. Neil never knows when he is giving too much information because he sees the whole story, in detail, as being essential to understanding. He is very generous with his giving of information. She'll be asking somewhat less sweeping questions in future. All part of the learning process for her.

Pointillism drives me mad...too much hard work. I have tried it. Call this rough broad stroke random pointillism if you like @ianpspurs

I hope MIL is comfortable and recovers.

Take care
Ah a bit like Van Gogh who at times use very small brush strokes.

Oh and my fbg today 6.9

Yes. Exactly. But ...
I do this too. Recently was almost shouting at myself. " That was more than fifty years ago- forget it! about a small, unimportant incident at a school meal. Which I had been rehashing in my head one night. As if rethinking it now will do any good! The egg will still have been undercooked, near enough raw.
Why do these things come back again and again?

All the best with the blood tests and also with the celeriac chips. I find that they need to be cut thinner than I would like and then put in a plastic bag with the oil and shaken, not stirred. Heating the dish and only having a single layer seems to help with crisping up.
Haven't tried celeriac chips but it is nice roasted. Parboil for a few mins then dry and roast.

FBG at 3.20 am was 9.6. A bit of a wobble down then up to 10.9 but now, after breakfast, it's 7.8.

Fairly bright day here at the moment, although it was very wet and windy when Em came at 7.30 this morning, and even when she went to school at 8.30. At least the wind was behind her as she went up the road so it must have been from the south west. The constant wind is affecting the temperature in the house. The kitchen is warm enough, but the rest of the house is pretty cold.

There are advantages and disavantages living here on the Islands - one disadvantage is the transport problem when the weather is bad, or when the ferry breaks down; one advantage @gennepher, is that other than in the town, we don't really need to lock our doors, or wonder who is there late at night. I do have a set of keys but they have never been used other than when we went away to the mainland for something. Even then, we left the back door open for Alistair to get in with the post. When we first came here, even in town, nobody locked their doors, although the children's swings were padlocked on Sundays - children were supposed to be indoors being taught about the Bible on Sundays, not playing outside.
We also rarely lock doors, or the car. The Ukranians found this very difficult to accept because they came from a city - in a city I would also lock up.

Bit of a mixed bag. Hope that MIL shakes off that pneumonia.

Good morning everyone from what looks like it might be a fine day here in SW France. Lots of protesters in the streets yesterday with flags, banners, whistles and music. All against increasing the retirement age from 62 to 64 - oooh la la! Didn’t deter my mother sat on her Dalek on the way to lunch in the city centre. Train to Bordeaux this afternoon and an overnight stay near the airport ready to jet off to the UK tomorrow morning. Art bit - some more done, but not much. Have a swimmingly good Sunday if you can. I shall finish my koffy and sort out my bag.

Have a safe journey @dunelm

Morening all.

Blood sugars this morning were 6.1

@gennepher, a nice painting, I think I knew her mum! Well I am of Welsh extraction.

Panic stations here in Tilehurst Towers. Our eldest son and family are descending on us for lunch, they are having a lasagna with garlic and salad, their pudding will be chocolate mousse. Mine will be mince, peas and a fruit salad.

Before preparation can begin I have to clear all rubbish off the dinning room table.

Have a safe day all.

I noticed that @dunelm is travelling back to the dark and dangerous norf today. Safe travels fellow greaser.

FBG 7.5 at 3.30 am. Pills, tea and a doze in the chair. 9.10 - woke up properly and tested again - up to 9.8. Just having my 2nd cup of tea and considering doing the dishes that I didn't do at 3.30. In need of motivation.

The 2 expeditions should be home today on the evening ferry - weather still holding, so it should sail. Alistair promised to phone after he had handed over the last of the pups, but didn't. bit of a worry. Probably in a no-signal area - there are quite a few of those in the Aberdeenshire area - and, knowing him, he forgot thereafter. But it still makes me anxious.

I'd prefer the mince menu, Alf, but then, even in higher carb days, Lasagne was never a choice I would go for. Enjoy the vsitors.
