Grandson did enough with his GCSE results to trot down to college yesterday and confirm his place on his chose foundation engineering course. 26 individual exams - it’s a bit mad! So, congratulations to all who completed this years marathon memory test. Some folk bang on about how easy GCSE’s are nowadays - I don’t think so.
Late breakfast with the lad in a while.
Hope your day gives you something that makes you smile. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Best finish my koffy.

Well done that man! Congratulations to your grandson on getting his college place. Him particularly, but also all those others who sat the exams, whether they got the results they wanted or not. They got through the course at least. It seems like an over-complicated system these days, compared to what I used to know, and a more stressful environment for the poor kids undertaking it.

I was never great at studying for exams. I felt that either I had learned enough doing the course, or I hadn't. I was always quite laid back about it all and never had a problem. I think it would be different these days and my attitude would not get me through. I actually never liked the idea of exams, even as a lecturer, always preferring continuous assessment and collaboration to get my students to know their subjects, stage by stage.

Congratulations to your grandson and best wishes for the next step of his journey. I hope the breakfast was a suitably celebratory event. I agree that GCSE's are far from easy, the whole curriculum seems far too difficult for a significant proportion of youngsters. I assume that is at the root of the issues with too many retakes in Maths and English. We have no grandchildren at that stage just yet but two 4 year olds start school this September, one was only 4 on August 3rd. Why does he need to be dressed in school uniform (£400 a pop in some places, more for secondary) to add to the bizarre version of a National Curriculum now making many young lives a misery?

Is the DVD connected via an HDMI port? If so, turn both off and unplug. This might reset. Check and clean HDMI port. If it’s neither of those then it will need further investigation.

We've come to the conclusion that it's my little old TV that is at fault. It keeps making an odd noise which Neil thinks is the motor for the DVD player, so I guess it's had its day. I've been looking at new ones, but don't understand the jargon so I've no idea if they are what I want.

Special day today - it's bin day for glass items. They only collect those every 9 weeks. Not that that is a problem for us - we last put glass out for collection about a year ago. The bin was about half full and getting heavy, so we had to check the council website to see when it would be collected and today is the day! Excitement all round.

10.7 today, ate a slice of cheese, an hour later, 7.8. That's a higher starting point, a smaller snack, and a much bigger drop than yesterday. Need to find a way to manage this early snacking every day it seems.

I found the counselling very useful

Some of it was helpful tips..like remind myself to truly assess the anxiety, and judge if it is a likely or not, helped particularly.

But the greatest help was some one listening, not judging, just letting me pour out the contents of my mind on to a table , if you will

Which let me piece together the fragments that were still intact, and let me try ways to rearrange them to cover the gaps in my thinking that had appeared .

Yes, it was good to talk through some worrying thoughts, and have someone understand yet calm me by making suggestions or making me think through the problem/issue, so in essence I ended up making my own solutions

But I could never have got there without some one hearing and encouraging me

I hope the assessment is sooner than you think and you find a similar comfort from it as I did .

I think that I'm still looking for answers to impossible questions.
And talking to a club sell or has helped the realisation of my situation before. And I have been really trying to stop being so anxious, but it seems and feels as tho it is an automatic response.
I just can't help myself and that is the most significant issue I have, mentally. I just don't want Mrs L to hurt anymore. So any activity is a worry. Falling, banging herself, hurting, Mrs L is in enough pain without adding to it. It has to stop. And it's very hard to do so.
Another move forward was today. Mrs L prepared our meal. Cooked with some assistance, my pork chops, minted lamb for Mrs L. A huge success.
A remarkable 6.6mmols this morning, I tested again, 7.1. But I will take that.
The downside was Mr L was left with a kitchen that was very much not clean and tidy.
Thank heavens for a dishwasher and cleaning products and my elbow grease.

5.4 this morning.

Mr K has been trimming the weeping silver birch in our front garden today while I looked after Bonnie.

She has not worked out how to get into the new kitchen bin, so it looks like it was a good buy.

Instead of going through training videos on my PC upstairs in the office, I decided to go through them on my kindle fire while relaxing on my recliner chair in the conservatory. A much nicer way to do the work, especially as I am really close to my Nespresso machine.

I read of some interesting research by Harvard University - Women who drink coffee are significantly likely to age well, physically and mentally, into their 70s and beyond if they drink caffeinated coffee (not decaff). I do like research like this.

I have got a radio, which I'll ask Neil to fix up for me. I used to get my radio programmes through the TV as well, but it just isn't going to work. I tried it again a few minutes ago and it is still jumping to DVD ever couple of minutes. We don't have a TV shop in the town - I think the last one came from a supermarket. I'll have to ask Neil to look for one when he goes to the shops on Tuesday.

Next week is going to be busy. Monday is clear - it's a bank holiday but Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I have appointments (Diabetes clinic to discuss Mounjaro, Podiatrist and legs). Still don't know whether I want to go on to the Mounjaro - maybe they won't give it to me anyway.

I think Montbretia is a lovely plant - graceful and colourful. I have a small patch of the cultivated one but masses of the wild one - crocosmia I think it is. Or is it the other way round? Whatever, I love them.

7.9 at 05.00 this morning.

Trying to make my radio work, but I can't even see how to switch it on - it's been so long since I used it. It doesn't help that it is a fairly large one, with attached speakers, all on a high shelf in the kitchen. I can't quite see what all the buttons on it are, but none of them seem to do anything. I have the power on light, but that's all. What's happening out there in the world?

DIL has recovered from whatever was wrong and is back working again with help from Em. Just as well. No medical help seems to have been available. 111 didn't answer, 999 refused to turn out (not their kind of emergency), NHS 24 asked if she could be brought into A&E but when told she had fallen asleep, said not to bother, she would probably be alright. This for a woman local services know has several serious health problems. Still, our problems on the Island are nothing compared to what I hear you mainland folks have to contend with, either with health services, transport, driving and so on. We should be grateful. Doesn't stop us complaining, of course.

We took Bonnie to Costa Coffee this afternoon to continue with her training. She was so good and just laid down beside us. So she earned a gold star for good behaviour.

Actually today was a relaxing, walking and not doing too much work day.

All my orange whattchamacallits finished a couple of weeks ago.
Mrs L loves them, so does the bees, the hover flies and lots of white butterflies.
Roses still flowering crazy. Lawn is suffering with no rain.
It's like start of autumn here, leaves really browning now.
