What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

The BMI discussion is timely for me because Monday is official weekly weigh-in day (keeps me honest with my weekend diet).
I'm happy today because I'm at 93.3kg which is over 8kg down on my "start weight" of 101.5kg. on 14 May
But BMI brings out the angry goldfish in me....
According to BMI, 101.5kg was officially "overweight"
So I lose 8kg and according to BMI, I am still "overweight". In fact I can lose 14kg overall and still be BMI "Overweight".
The BMI spans are too wide to offer any kind of motivational reward. Nor is it a deterrent - if someone creeps up 14kg in weight without their classification changing they are less likely to change their habits. Maybe the system isn't meant to be motivational, because they are medical definitions, but I think we'd encourage more people to lose weight if the gradings were more frequent.
Grrrrrrrr (or whatever noise goldfish make).

I think a better gauge is using the string test:
Measure your height
Cut a piece of string to that length
Fold in half
Wrap round your waist- the ends should meet or you are still not there.
I keep my piece of sting in the kitchen, a bit to go yet. Mrs Miggins’s piece of string overlaps by a good margin - drat

Afternoon all, late post due to tinternet down here in the sticks. 5.3 this morn and 5.1 just now. Home gym complete, light lunch and fast till morn. RE Fitbit, I got one the charge2 couple of years ago, i thought it would help with the diet. But the calorie count is next to useless. But I enjoy the heart monitor, gives me a indication of fitness. The sleep monitor is interesting. But most of my activity i log in MyNetDiary. If i had bought a smartphone before the fitbit, i dont think i would bother with the watch. Enjoy the rest of your day.

@DJC3 Atta girl. Re fitbit - other wearable fitness bands are available at all good stores and some not so good stores - they do provide loads of data to mull over and discern trends. The MFP tool with the dashboard has helped me loads - customising the macros is needed. Weaknesses - take it off when washing and drying hands or you get lots more steps than you actually do. It can be very confusing over sleep patterns until you realise it is picking up the movements etc of the other person in the bed and debrief regularly. For some reason mine gives me astronomical heart rate when walking and quite low when doing HITT so I now also have a chest hrm. The reminder to walk 250 steps every hour is good and weekly stats make it easy to see where one slacks or excels.
Phew - lowdown lowdowned:arghh: The Ionic I bought my wife looks cool and the adidas would obviously suit a poser! (guess what I want santa to bring me but my charge 2 goes well still - my have to accidently damage it :angelic:)
I get thousands of steps on my Fitbit when out on my motorcycle - must be vibrations through the handle bars :D

Thanks I know you are right, it feels like a dog gives you a purpose for a walk but there really is nothing to stop me walking for the pleasure of it. I just have to make myself do it until it becomes habit, and at least I don’t have to remember to take poo bags with me now!
What you say really is true. For me it really had to be a discipline , i.e. something I had to talk myself into every single day, for several months, if not longer. Nowadays its only occasionally I have to talk it up a bit ( to myself),. Oddly enough I'm even walking further now than I used to. I've found ways of enjoying it, stopping off to take in a view or stop by a quierky cafe for a quick expresso in the morning..... Also a " fit bit " helps motivation, or for no money at all an app called"pacer" is free and more than ok if you carry your phone with you....Best thoughts...

Gosh that’s a lot of info, thank you. Some of it completely unintelligible to me, I must say. I think I need to find a compromise between technology overload and price. I will spend the evening researching.
I used the pacer app for 2 years before getting the Fitbit...It is perfectly acceptable as long as you carry your phone around...

@dunelm @OrsonKart @ianpspurs thank you all so much for your input. I’ve just been into town to look for a device (6,670 steps!) I thought Halfords might sell them but no. Found a few in Decathlon but noone to talk to about them so your recommendations are very much appreciated. My phone has a step counter but not all my clothes have pockets so it often just sits on a table if I’m at home, also I’d like one I can swim with I think. I’ll have a look at the Which guide too.

Good morning from a very misty Fenland hideaway, usually this start means a very hot day in Summer or early autumn. 5.3 just so you know @alf_Josiah ok itself but no ringing endorsement of OMAD by my body. However, this weather is almost perfect for a string of such days so I can tweak things and observe. Resting pulse has come off of Sunday's high but above 60 so not right and sleep about 30 mins below target.
I may have given too much information there but I fervently believe the whole picture is key to managing this condition hence my chagrin over last few weeks as things are awry. As a result my bg levels are not where they are when my body more closely resembles a finely tuned machine (as much as a 63 year old body which has had abuse can). Long post but if it helps someone put frustrating readings into context I will be satisfied.

Ianp, I’m v interested in your posts as I too think it’s the whole package and each affects another. I’m currently experiencing a rise in bpm, fbg and feeling better than I was but starting to feel ill again ( doc decided a lower dose losartan for blood pressure - I am deciding that I don’t want it at all if it’s making me feel so rubbish, but will keep an eye on blood pressure- however I’m am veering off what I wanted to ask u- it’s about ACV - I’m sure I read that u use it, did I?
If you do is it for lowering fbg or normal bg or both. Does it make a diff? Do u have it b4 meals or bedtime or both? Thanks sweetie x

I would highly recommend a Fitbit- I realise they’re pricy but the reminders are fantastic, plus all the food logging and macro working out and sleep functions ( Fitbit Alta) has been a godsend. It’s a little treasure. It has really enabled me to make such drastic changes to my life with relative convenience- no I don’t have shares but I should lol

Hi @flexi06 Sorry to hear about your problems but you always seem so upbeat so hold that stance. ACV is meant to be a bit of a superfood with several benefits including potentially lowering bg - here is 1 link https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/6-proven-health-benefits-of-apple-cider-vinegar. I have drunk it in water, I do add it to bone broth both in the making and when I drink it. Most usually I use 1-2 tablespoons in my salad dressing. Hope that helps. Make sure it is the type with the must not ordinary acv

Thank you sweetie- I read ur link and it used the same evidence as my research :) I have some. I might give it a go at bedtime

I would make sure to put it water very acidic and not friendly to tooth enamel - need to look after your pearly whites

Yes so I read, but I thank you for the hint. I will dilute as I already feel like I’m falling apart- lol despite acting in the most healthy way than I have ever lol. I’m sure it will all come good soon lol

Hi flexi06 thanks for your recommendation, I’m a real novice at this sort of technology. Does a fitbit sync with your phone? (I have an iphone) how do do manage all the food logging etc do you log directly or does it pick it up from your phone log?
Can you use it independently or do you need a phone as well?
Sorry for all the questions, the more I look into it the more questions I have. I really should have started another thread I think.

You mentioned ACV in another post - be careful of acidic tooth erosion - don’t have it neat and don’t brush your teeth immediately after it or you’ll just etch the acid into your tooth enamel. There are loads of reported health benefits otherwise though.

Away from home with work. Hard to stay disciplined. Hotel food is a full on carbathon.
Managed an 8km jog in the stifling heat but feeling weak and hungry. At least I found a supermarket and a decent salad with cooked mackerel. They say it takes 28 days to change a habit - I’m past that but this is still hard.
Some Lindt 85% is my reward - hope it doesn’t mess too much with my numbers.

I am totally happy to answer all questions about fit bit Alta ( the one I have) I have iPhone too- yes it syncs. Food logging easy- I rarely use the laptop but it’s better for creating meals- I mostly just log on my phone- it’s very user friendly- it syncs with laptop so no doubling up- u have a (free) app on both. It works out all the macros and steps and how many calories u need. There are millions of foods already on there but at the start - and still- you have to put lots of nutritional details in- but it’s so worth it. I honest can’t recommend it enough. It’s really helped me out- I’m not to techy either and it’s very simple. Thanx for the ACV warnings- I knew but Ianp also warned me- it’s so lovely to be part of such a caring community. X x any more questions I will answer tomorrow- it phone downtime now lol xx gnight sweetie xx
