@PenguinMum My mystery virus is doing nothing much except making me sleep well and be very cautious around exercise. Thanks for asking though. My longings, food wise, are for an edible bread substitute but mostly for tomatoes, onions and garlic to be lower carb. I have never really adjusted to main meals not heavy on that triumvirate. Bit like what I imagine losing one of one's senses might feel like.Vera the virus made me laugh! How are you and your unnamed virus though? You’re right about recipes, I cant stand food waste and coconut flour leads to rhat big time IMO. Oh but its great when you find something that works for you like the F/S rolls. Maybe if it aint broken dont fix it but I have a longing for gingerbread.
Good luck with Keto @Canvaspic, what level of carbs are you on per day? Are you looking at doing fasting as well as Keto?
@Bubbsie Thank you.[
I have no idea how long you've been diagnosed Moggely...I do have 5's fairly regularly with my waking levels...it took me a while to get there...I approached my diabetes at a slow steady pace...like you I thought I'd never get there...once I did anything above a low 5 in the morning would put me in a spin...nowadays it doesn't...sometimes I think we can get fixated on our waking numbers in isloation...when what we should be looking at is our overall management...that's what matters ultimately.
@ianpspurs . I think i am pretty daft so please excuse my lack of knowledge, but why would you go back on Metformin with fasting levels in the 5's. I need to be educated i know. Understand the babysitting as now i rarely do it lol. Swimming Lessons for old duffers?? I don't think your that old are you?. I wish you could give me those eggs and fruit i would love us to grow our own. Maybe next year as trying to sell our cottage atm. So as to be closer to our grandchildren.5.6 today tantalisingly close to the 100 mg/dl I was first set as a target so totally unhelpful as to whether to resume Metformin or notSwimming lessons for useless old duffers start again today then baby sitting 2 grandchildren in Suffolk and delivering eggs and apples to our 2 boys who live there. @Moggely I can feel the joy from here
Ah yes edible bread substitute especially for toasting is just for dreaming. As regards the tomatoes, onion and garlic that is the base for all my curries and I dont worry too much about the carbs, theres no other way IMHO. I like Atul Kuchers book Simple Indian but sometimes I just freelance. I am surprised how many members have posted re viruses way too early in the season!@PenguinMum My mystery virus is doing nothing much except making me sleep well and be very cautious around exercise. thank you dear ZiggyWelcome back, @Freema. Sounds as if you had a great time in Mexico. Bummer, about the food, though I agree that much of the food is corn-based.
hello everybody hope you are all still doing fine , I have now returned from a 17 days holiday in Mexico and it has been really exciting being at my brothers wedding with his very warmhearted and beautiful Mexican girlfriend and the whole Mexican family.. so many great experiences .... But I must say it is very hard to be a diabetic in Mexico, all these smashed beans and corn flatbreads and in general a very low-quality meat.....I did have troubles with my stomach for the first 5 days and sadly also at the wedding where the food was delicious indeed.. and I did have a holiday off my diabetes-food but must say I longed a lot to come back to my much more convenient way of shopping and much richer choices of food in the Danish shops.
all the Mexican great exotic fruits are no goes in greater amounts... and as I know there are really many diabetics over there I really feel pity for all those fighting with their diabetes in Mexico.
I didn´t measure my blood glucose at all.. and haven´t yet unpacked my meter... but tomorrow will be my new start from scratch
just had a great meal of bacon and eggs and a few small potatoes... how happy I am to back to my delicious high protein rolls from "Kohberg" which only contain little amounts of carbs instead of all those white bread served with everything in mexico..hope to get back into the low 6 and 5´s from tomorrow....
@Moggely Taking things step by step you are definitely not daft. Secondly, whist fbg levels may be in the 5s I like a large margin for error in all things. The age thing is relative. I am 63 so life has passed me by without me managing to really trouble the scorers. You would be more than welcome to the eggs and fruit - I forgot to mention that we were told to make sure to take blackberries as well. Blackberry and apple crumble is family P favourite,@ianpspurs . thanks dear KeeshaWelcome back Freema, we miss you. Glad you had a good time and like you, I bring my meter with me but never use it one time. Our diabetes get a vacation too.
