My carbs and cals book says only 1g in a large glass of red @OrsonKartt and I agree that a mound of red cabbage would have been wonderful with the ox. Not sure what you mean by a "genuine health service". The diabetes clinic I go to stressed from the start that they encourage people to take control and manage the disease. That's what a lot of people on this forum are doing and I've learnt so much from the information that's continually being shared. I'll always feel grateful to the nurse who pointed me in this direction and to all the good people here.Morning all. , same numbers as trick60, snap! .... and same story ... went out last night to a new restaurant had mussels for starter, skipped the fries which smelt fab and had ox cheek as main. Passed on the mashed spuds. Due to not much else on the plate, well one sprig of cabbage, I didnt finish the plate as the balance wasnt good. IMHO it needed a whole lot of red cabbage to add balance. ..... Of course shared a great bottle of wine at 3 grams of carb per glass ...so woke with 5.8. .................... ...I am intrigued by the ongoing discussion about Ians numbers and talk of health and ways of keeping well. If only we had a genuine health service which encouraged self empowerment , so good that things can be shared here. !!.. ...Have a great day all....

I'm really pleased you had a positive experience with your nurse . That makes hard reading. Given a lifeline and throwing it away. It's so sad. A friend of mine was diagnosed at the same time as me. He is on metformin and statins. Skin problems, cramps, tummy issues, still has high fBS (when he does test which isn't often) but wants to take the meds so he can eat what he wants. His words.@Debandez you may also run into those people who know about the effect of high carb foods on blood glucose but refuse to modify their diet.
Although my best friend is also a lower carber who's controlled her Type 2 diabetes by modifying her diet (she inspired me and helped me initially), we know several people who refuse to change despite knowing what carbs do to blood glucose.
Particularly depressing is a couple we know who are both Type 2 diabetic. He has always refused to change his diet in the slightest. She tried eating low carb for a while but has given up completely. At a recent event we attended, they brought and ate multiple sandwiches with white bread, potato salad and apple crisp and drank multiple cans of regular Coke. Neither test their blood glucose at all anymore and both are on multiple meds which are increased every time they have their hba1c checked as it has continued to rise. She's a very bright woman who's well read and knows about low carb. She ate low carb for a while (despite her husband) and then decided to take medication so she could have bread, that has now expanded to not excluding anything including sugar, regular soft drinks, potatoes and other high carb foods. She has put on an additional considerable amount of weight very quickly recently and her insulin resistance has probably worsened. It's very sad to be around them yet ironically they pity those of us with well controlled blood glucose levels because we watch what we eat and won't join them.
Im just going to go down the 'this is me' route. My journey. With info on what I learned that helped me put t2d into remission and made my symptoms disappear. See what feedback I get and take it from there.Great post. Thanks for sharing. I think in your position I’d have found all that incredibly frustrating. But if there’s only one thing I’ve learned in recent years it’s that people fiercely defend their dietary choices. Any advice or opinion you offer about your own will just be perceived as evangelism and preaching.
