What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Hi I am new member mine was 7.1 which is normal for me,I had two small thin pieces of wholemeal bread and chees
Did you eat before the finger prick test? The first one of the day is usually a fasting test which means before you eat anything and as soon as you wake up, having washed your hands beforehand obviously.
If you want to know what raises your blood glucose then take the test before eating then again 2 hours after the first mouthful. If it has gone up more that 2mmol/l then this is classed as a spike and you may want to avoid that food and find an alternative.

Quick Question for the forum

Been at the ULC diet and exercise for 3 months - my mid morning, mid afternoon and evening BG levels are coming down and average about 5.5-6.5

However i have seen an interesting gradual creeping up of my fasting BG first thing in the morning

month 1 was 7.5-10
month 2 was 6.5-7
Month 3 was 7-8

Any thoughts on what would be causing this (admitted - slight) rise ? Seems to happen irrespective of food stuffs the night before

Answers on a postcard please ?

Hello and welcome to this corner of the forum.

At this stage, the most important time to test is just before you take the first mouthful, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Then compare that first reading with the result two hours later. The second reading should be no more than 2 mmols/l above the first one and no higher than 8 mmols. By reducing the carbohydrates in your meals, you can bring those results down to a healthy range. If you're achieving that consistently it shows you've started to reduce the high levels of blood glucose that over time cause damage to organs.

FBG readings first thing in the morning are a useful yardstick, but often the last to stabilise.

Results are in, A1C is 6.4 (46), a bit of a rise since last test (6.3….or 45)I’m truly a bit surprised as I was quite ill for over a month and thought it would have been higher. Even with my extremely low carb diet I struggle to budge these results….the battle continues.

A great result, all things considered. You were ill for over a month, yet your HbA1c is virtually unchanged.
Thank you for keeping us posted.
