My HBA1C tends to be around 6.low something. I'm 30+ years type 1, and I think these results have led to no eye trouble, neuropthy, feet probs etc. I think, keep the HBA1C down is always the answer...

Had my results today...

6.7! 6.7! 6.7!

I can't stop saying it. I am so pleased. That's the lowest it's been since I was about 14 years old. It's been stuck on 7% for the last 2 years.

hi
Been type1 for a year, hba1c's of 6.5; 5.8; 5.8; and am due one next month.
Is it possible to have good hba1c and be poorly controlled? :? because quite regularly my bm level 2h post dinner are between 10-16.

cheers

Yes you can, if you are having high BG’s and then Low BG’s this can give a false looking good HbA1c overall…

In truth the HbA1c is more of a risk predictor than an actually indicator of good control… You really need to have good monitoring practices and diary to see how control is really going… So that you can see where and how you might achieve a better controlled regime…

I had a period where if you just determined my control by my HbA1c you would have thought that I had reasonable control just outside the 7.5 range, but in reality I was having 2 -3 hypos a day, so would plummet into my boots and swing high again.. The hypos were taking the high BG’s down and giving a false impression of control

I've only just discovered the 7,14 & 30 day average reading option on my meter(s) But it seems to me to be the truer indicator of what's actually going on with your sugars. When you get an immediate feedback on how youre doing as opposed to the periodic hba1c then that's more of an incentive to get on top of your BGs isn't it:?:

Agree with you farmer. HBA1c doesn't tell you about the spikes that may have occured.

Got type 1 in Nov. My Hba1c was 9.8 then.

Had my first real Hba1c result yesterday and got 6.4 :)

Pretty good I guess, but im sure that was due to honeymooning! :(

I've just come back from my regular specialist visit. She was telling me that doing a bs test 2 hours after eating gives an inaccurate result. It may be only if you are on Humalog and Lantus, as I am. But the Humalog is just coming down from peaking, 2 hours after eating. You need to test 3 hours after eating, since this is when the Humalog (or quick acting) has finished working. This is when your bs should be back to normal. Try leaving it a bit longer to do a test :)

Hi

My last hb1ac was in novmeber and it was 6.8, I have been diabetec for 16 months this is quite good going but I did it at the expense of having a few hypos! my medical team have worked out my ratio for units of insulin and carbs so I am more balanced now, I don't want to have a high Hb1ac though!it worries me!!!

OK if we're in a competition my last one, taken 7 weeks ago, was 9.3. My consultant has finally persuaded me to go basal bolus after many years of me say "not likely". So here I am 3 days in on 24 Levermir at night and 10 Novorapid before any meal. Overall BG's appear to be coming down but do seem to be getting some hypos which I'm not so happy about ut we'll keep working at it and yes I do need to change the footnote as it's out of date.
