Mine was 12.9% in diagnosis in April, 7.7% in June and last was 6.7 in September But.....

I had my bloods done on Monday and given my useless attempts over Christmas (and what was frustrating was I really tried - I can only assume it was my lessened activity) I have a feeling it will not be so great when I next see the doctor!

I am wondering if my honeymoon period could have lasted this long and that it was that to blame!! :?

Well done CC. Knew you would be in the 5's doll!!

At least now you wont have to scream until you are sick :D
I have my next one at end January but dont expect it to be that low. Suspect pp readings higher than fasting/pre meals would suggest

Not going to stress, tis only been 4 months and any downward trend is goo.

Well done again

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
My last was 6.1% almost a year ago, they forgot to call me in last summer. Perhaps I'm going to have to take charge of that.

Mine started at 7.6 when i was first dx, but it has gone all the way up too 14.5. i blame myself for not checking my sugars like i should, i will just take a large amount of insulin after a meal and see how i feel. but i am starting too try with my sugar testing, so far im getting aybe one or two readings a day sometimes none. but i need a good *** kicking too get me in gear or im not gonna make it too 20, as the doc crudely put it

Had my results yesterday and got an 8.0 - this included a week of having the flu, hospitalisation and struggling afterwards for a couple of weeks to keep levels in check.

I interogated my doctor and he reckons anything around 7-8 is good (previous was 7.7) and aiming below 7 is pretty unrealistic.

What does anyone think?

Sam.

its not surprising you got an 8 after you had been so ill, as for the dr, mine told me same and it took ages for me to get basal bolus as he thought a 7.8 was great :? my last one was 7.2 and this one should be lower as im on b/b, i think getting under 7 can be done with hard work
quite a few on ere have managed the 5,s so nothings impossible :D
now your over your illness your nxt one should be lower

Hi Sam,

I hope you're on the mend now.
In my opinion, you're doctor is letting you down by telling you 7-8% is good I'm afraid.
The NHS set upper limit is 7%. The ADA has recently reduced it's upper level to 6.5%, and will go lower soon I hope. Healthy non-diabetics HbA1c will be somewhere in the mid to upper 4% range.
There's no reason not to aim for similar levels in my view, and quite a nubmber of forum members are certainly in the 5's now.
Your doctor will be aware that the UK avarage for diabetics is around 9%, so by that standard anything lower is good in a sense. But if 9% is double a non-diabetic level, it's not good in any real sense.

All the best,

fergus

Not having enough time. Broken sleep.
I got my Son's results today and he is now 7.0% down from 8.7%. He is only 2 so this has been hard work and has meant I'm a bit sleep deprived. The only bad hypo I had was when I used new pens the first time. They must have had a bit more spring than my old ones and caused a 2.8. I do quite often feel like I'm walking a tight rope to keep good bsl's.

people who are rude and ignorant, and people who have no patience in queues.
Andrews last test on 2/2 was 8.8 previous 8.3, but then he had changed insulins twice and had a period of illness. Very much detemined to get it down with the carb counting and basal bolus regime, despite the consultants comments on an average of 8 is great for kiddies, apparrently its the national average!! When we get it to 7 and below then i'll be estatic.

My last one was 7.7%

I'm disappointed that I only recently found out what kind of numbers I should be aiming for.

I'm expecting my next one to be lower as my numbers have improved a lot.

I've gone from having 41% of my tests over 10.0 in December
to having 11% of my tests above 10.0 this last month

As long as I don't stray I should see a decent improvement next time.

The way I got myself back on track was to just concentrate on getting the basics right. I was pleasantly susrprised how much of a difference that made.

I'm really in awe of some of you guys' HbA1c figures. Getting less than 6.0% is awesome and some of you have gone even further!

Would it be asking too much to ask if some of you could post, say a fortnight or month's worth of figures, to give an idea of what kind of control is needed to achieve exemplary HbA1c scores?

A breakdown of the scores would be useful.

I know that when I got the following results for a month, it followed with an HbA1c of 7.7

24 were < 10.0
8 were 10.0 - 15.0
7 were 15.0 - 20.0
2 were 20.0+ ouch!

I think I was a bit lucky to escape with a 7.7 for these figures!

In my last month, I've done a bit better
70 were < 10.0
7 of those 10.0 - 15.0
2 of those 15.0+

If some of the heroes of the board who are getting better A1cs could give an idea of the test results which get their A1c scores that would be really useful for us apprentices.

Hi

I just got mine checked today - 8.4 which was down from 9.6 (2 months ago).

I have only been low carbing for the past 2 weeks, so I hope the next one will be better.

You guys on this forum have been a great source of encouragement in helping me get back on track.

Thanks
Orchid

I do not have diabetes
It could be far far worse - My son's HbA1C has been over 14 for the last 6 months....
He hates tests, eats out so that I don't know what he is eating and generally thinks he is invincible and never has to listen to parents.
He does get regular hospital admissions right now because of the total disregard for the problem. I am just oping he grown up very soon...
