People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Programme just started.. Will watch what these say!!

I don't enjoy "healthy eating" programmes these days. I don't feel I have anything in common with the experts  (Not that I'm bothered)

They just stopped one group from eating bread pasta n potatos..

Cheers, DD. That was an interesting programme. At least two of the groups were advised to go lower carb. Not sure what the folk who jumped off the lighthouse will be eating.

Hi. I thought it was better than I expected. Two of the three groups went low-carb/high protein and the 3rd had to go low-calorie. I liked the fact that it was fairly scientific in approach with measurements of hormone levels and so on. There was no mention of fat in the food. I suspect because it was too much for the dieticians to admit they had all been wrong ref fat and chose to not mention it. At least the low-carb and/or low-GI carbs got a thumbs-up so we are winning.

Whats the right diet?

Thsts the name of the programme...

Did they mention diabetes? I suppose if any were diabetic they would already have altered their eating habits, hopefully.

I think I'm right in saying that they had a group of people who by their own admission sadly had eating problems, not weight problems. They obviously had problems with their weight but I define weight problems as an issue with the mechanism that decides how the body uses fuel for muscles or uses fuel to be stored as fat. If there are any experts on the Krebs Cycle, I'm still trying to learn about it.

Interesting, especially the number of people who freaked at having a driving test. They already had their license so where was the pressure? Maybe just me. Abseiling on the other hand, I could fully understand, along with skydiving and bungy jumping, that's the sort of adrenaline I don't need.

Also interesting that they did at least try to advise cutting carbs to varying degrees. I suppose we'll see how they get on next week.

The good thing is that all the people were obese and were warned of diabetes, heart etc...so its getting to the general public first.

I think the programme is on again pt 2 tonight.

The only part I found mystifying was that they spilt the groups in to 3 from analysing them for a day. One group was people that were thought to have a gene that tells them to eat more.....

Well I know that some people do have to go to clinics for really being unable to stop gluttony of eating... I know some people (indeed a friend) that is in an anorexic eating unit at the moment. So is there a gene that actually is a cause of excess or little eating?
I would think for me that my part of that gene is faulty too, as I bever want to eat to be honest. I eat because I have too, not from any urge to think of food.

However, there was a large lady on there that said she felt glad to know she could blame it on a fat gene!! That bit really stuck in my throat...(so to speak) as I've never considered there to be a genetic cause. I have always blamed obesity on just eating too much carbs and fat together....

It was interesting last night to see the advice given and I will have to tecord it tonight..

I loved the driving tests. One guy actually hitting something??!!! One lady suggesting she hit the kerb and the chap telling her she was actually on the pavement.

Omg... Wish my hubby could have been on that.. He can't park on a 100' clear road without mounting the pavement with his front wheel!! He knows he shouldn't... And he cringed last night at the kerb incident!!!

Chuckle, chuckle...

Haven't seen this yet but I think there was a lady on the BBC news the other morning who was talikng about it. Apparently they have found about 3 or more reasons people are overweight, hormones and genes, overeating and emotional and stress so the people in these catagories have been given different diets to help them loose weight but I don't think diabetes came into it

I'm guessing they didn't include low carb high fat - or did they?
Fat wasn't mentioned at all! I think they couldn't bring themselves to admit as diet experts that they have been wrong for decades. If you look at the BBC2 programme website and the day by day diets they keep mentioning low-fat this and low-fat that so we still have a way to go.
