So went to my diabetes check up today all is in order my long term blood results were 6 which I think is ok she seems happy anyway! Kidneys all working! Winner! So I asked about my insulin dosages she said she wasn’t able to advise on those so she suggested I ring locala don’t know if anyone is familiar with them?? So I got home and rang them and they said I couldn’t refer myself! What a pain I only wanted a bit of advise! And I had to go back to my go for a referral! So I rang my gp back and they will send a letter in the post!! Why is it so difficult!?? Anyway in the meantime I had ham and a baby Bell for bfast with no spike! They went to 6.8 mid morning and now just before lunch they are 4.8 think I will try omelette for lunch today! No that anyone is bothered lol but I just thought I’d let you know have a good day!!

Hey @emmawhit32 Hey I care :)

In answer to your question - when did it get so difficult - well... that's an interesting question, it could be when you come to the realisation that it's here to stay and requires effort to manage and that the numbers suddenly start to matter - who knows, hard question to answer. I think like the majority of t1's who want to live long healthy lives that it does matter and therefore it does get difficult when each number matters. The positives are your eyesight is good, kidneys good, so for these reasons be grateful for your health, I think if we can find things to be grateful for that it does help with a positive mindset which is fundamental to keeping your t1 under control. I went for a run this morning but then followed by news that I have the in-laws coming for lunch on Sunday and instead of my BG going south they have now gone north !!! :banghead:

A lot of things in the nhs have got more difficult because of bun fights over who pays. For example in my area, my hospital diabetes team no longer prescribe but tell the gp to. A recent foot injury has seen a&e decline to carry out any tests beyond basic x ray, because “its not an emergency” your gp needs to make a referral for xrays / ultrasounds” the podiatry ream no longer allowed to make referrals to the hospital directly for scans etc - thay have to request the gp to do it (so gp pays) and when presented with a request for ultrasound and ct scan on the injury, the gp will only request 1 to start with to keep costs down - 6 months on from the i itial injury Ive just had an ultrasound that shows problems that need, guess what to properly diagnose. Wonder how long itll take to finally get a ct scan!

Thanks I do think diabetic care is so much more difficult once your an adult I remember as a child I went the hospital every few months got to see a diabetic specialist and that was fine.. now I can’t get an appointment with anyone! Oh yes I’m mainly on the whole very positive! I’m thankful I’m healthy and happy!
Oh dear lol I find a gin helps and that doesn’t affect my sugar levels ... I am out for tea this evening so lord knows what the levels have in store for me later! I’m off work today so I’m going to the gym this afternoon! It’s finding that balance!
Sod it I might even have a gin and slim later

Gin is fine as long as it's slimline tonic :)

I have heard other t1's say the same as they've come into adulthood about the care they receive, it's a short coming of the NHS to manage t1's like this - there should be a training course or transition period to ensure that young adults are given the right support to help them. Sounds like you have a brilliant positive attitude, stick with it you are doing great :)

We are bothered! It's always good to see people making such an effort - and doing well.

Woohoo! Great results, well done - I wish mine were this great!! And I agree, I’m not sure how I got through childhood as I didn’t think twice (other than eat healthily) about what I ate or all the things I think about now!

How long have you been diabetic!? If u don’t mind me asking!? It was so much easier when your mum controlled it for you as a child wasn’t it haha maybe I’ll move back in with her!

I’ve discovered gin and soda water with ice and lime love it think it complements the gin rather than slimline tonic which I find a bit sweet and overwhelms the gin my tastes must be changing !

Hi emmawhit32, just have the courage to drop by to said hello.I been monitoring some of your post and i said at least your gp is way better than my. I still remember the day i got diagnosis (by a random high reading) that the doctor ask the nurse to teach me how to check my glucose level and how to inject, after that their just send me home with the next appointment in 3 months :banghead:. I knew nothing about T1 and just send back home being told by my doctor i have diabetes. Only later that my mom sent me to a private pediatrician that i get a complete blood test (GAD,A1C,etc) that i was told what to do and explained what is type 1.

Since I was 5 so 23 years. What makes me laugh now when I look back... I used to have a “special” box of treats which I was allowed before PE or during a hypo - I would now never treat a hypo with a milky bar
I was talking to my Mum the other day about my switch to lower carbs/more fat and she didn’t have a clue what a carb actually was, especially the hidden ones in fruit etc. Proves how much times have changed!!

That’s so funny I had the same “special draw” at school too! Do you know what back then I think they called carbs exchanges!? I always got to be first in the dinner que too because of my diabetes I’ve no idea why!?

Hahahaa! Glad I’m not the only one! I think I always had a packed lunch. Maybe I wasn’t trusted to avoid the chocolate slab cake. Poor kid
