They had a rather cruel saying in my youth a long time before fat children and political correctness! "No one came out of Belsen fat!" Sick, but true!
Maybe a bit insensitive, and not very helpful and as you say 'sick', so perhaps best not repeated now most folk are wiser. They had a rather cruel saying in my youth a long time before fat children and political correctness! "No one came out of Belsen fat!" Sick, but true!
Thanks one and all for replies. Lots more things for me to consider. I will find the answer eventually. I have an appointment with the diabetic team some time in the future. It will be interesting because they have been warned that I am paranoid about gaining weight, a possible outcome of something like gliclazide (if the last time is anything to go by).
That had been my thought but total carb for spud and squash per my serving (1/4 packet) of about 65gms is 8 gms.
A fair question, most of my carbs come from vegetables and that still means at least 40 gms of carb. I see from my weight by date software that 4 oz (113gms) onion is 10gms carb. Then I 'd have to dump a whole meal for another 10 gms carb. Not impossible, but made trickier because eating more fat upsets my stomach and even flirting with a little more fat last year (proper yoghurt, cheese and cream in coffee, helped me gain 11 kgs.
I seem to be able to be in ketosis at 40 gms although I've not checked recently. It was one of many tests I had done a while back.
It's a shame that I didn't know that they can put a number to insulin resistance last year when 40gms - 80gms was just about right. It would seem, at least the GP thinks, my insulin resistance has deteriorated, I have a number for it now, just nothing to compare with.
Believe it or not I'm no stranger to the gym. I was doing quite well until I had my second knee replaced last January and because of the way they hammer the prosthetic into the femur, I had the most awful sciatic pain for quite some time. I still get a lot of back ache and muscle pain in legs and arms. Still, as soon as I can my brains to work out how to put my static bike together, it will be a start.
But it doesn't help if it's simply a 'back patting' and a 'yes' forum.
Have you sat down and truly weighed every gram of food that you eat??
Graham, I recall you looking forward to your knee op as you hoped it would precede a TransAt (ARC if I recall) adventure.
I would look at increasing your exercise.
Yes. How else can one tell how much carb one is eating? Guesswork isn't an option.
I use some PC software called "Weight by Date". It can't tell me how much carbs/calories/fat/sodium . . . . (up to 10 different things) unless I weigh everything. Kitchen scales that a plate goes on is useful. Zeroise with plate on, then add items noting weight thus enabling the calculation of the weight of each item. Pain in the backside but the only way to be 100% accurate.
I am told by my Docs that I am hyper vigilant (paranoid) in medical terms although one consultant recently changed his descriptive of me to being a perfectionist..
Some may need a gastric bypass because of calories in!Meaning?
I have gone from 18 stone to 15
I started doing the couch to 5k a few years ago. Got my first 70.3 tri this year.
