Ditto. my experience too. Well put, thank you.My dietary choices were based on medical advice, along with advice from organisations like WW, Tesco Diets, Slimming World. In hindsight totally useless and incorrect, for me anyway.
This "culture of sensible responsibility" is completely dependent on receiving good advice. Better advice than the "Eat sensibly" that most people are given on being diagnosed type II. That sensible advice would have me eating 250gms (approx) of carbohydrate every day, then having to take medication to cope with the BG Levels (I was discussing taking insulin before trying LC?F 4 or 5 years ago). In my opinion I have been sensible by not following the advice given.
It's good to have you back. There is a difference between robust discussion and offence. I don't find anything seriously wrong with probing questions and sensible argument. I'm fine with opposing views. These types of discussions when played out in a respectful way is how we gain knowledge. Sadly, the opposite effect when condescension enters the fray. Please stick around.I have been absent from the forum because of the very way people are talking to each other now. I was very guilty of some of the offence. I was also **** sure I had all the answers. I didn’t.
People are different and perhaps giving the benefit of the doubt can smooth many a path
I believe carbs are the devil. Or at least a senior demon. People can argue the other way. We are all in this together. I also think we are too quick to judge and too quick to take offence
My tuppence worth
Places tin hat on head and peers over parapet?
To be honest I cant be bothered reading past posts. I am in the fortunate position that the actions I took sorted my diabetes out as far as I can tell. I have done nothing special to do this other than read and listen to people who have been on this journey before me. Taken their advice and I suppose ignored advise that I believed to be wrong.Only if you have a lot to regret.
Not specifically referring to you Rab if someone says something unpleasant or aggressive under the cloak of anonymity that they would not say if people could identity them then that is the definition of trolling. Trolls are what makes some sites (eg Twitter) unpleasant places at times - I hope that doesn’t happen here: it’s too important.
Me too. When I reduce my carbs and keep them around the 30 g a meal mark my bg is fine . I have tried several times to go low carb as in about 60 g or less a day and I feel really tired and hungry ... no matter how much I replace them with protein and good fats. I think as lots of people say you have to find what works for you .Because I like them. Moderation is the key. I can't speak for you but for me and many others we only have to reduce carbs, not eliminate them completely. I eat no more than 20 to 30g with each meal maximum and it has precisely zero effect on my glucose control. If I followed the recommended dietary guidelines I'd be 330g per day. Then I would be in serious poo.
Quality, not quantity.
As for anonymity what else can we do apart from say who we are and stick a picture up!
I agree, but anything I have said in the past or the future is something I would say to your face. You missed my point. Anonymity is vital on here. What I am saying is that we should not use anonymity as a shield to be rude. We should talk to people with our avatars the same way as we would talk to someone who knows who we are.
Totally agree with you.Once diagnosed does it really matter how we 'got it'...it should be about how we manage it that's imperative
so you dont mind being rude? even if that rudeness upsets and hurts others on here or people in real life? several people have responded to you about how your way of communicating is hurtful and upsetting in its tone and word choices.I agree, but anything I have said in the past or the future is something I would say to your face.
Just shows how different we all are. I don't feel hungry in the absence of carbs. What happens to me is that my bowel movements go haywire. I put this down to the fact that meat and fats have very little in the way of roughage that is essential for people like me. The good bacteria in the gut is much happier. I find that 20 to 30g per meal is sufficient to keep the ol' pooper working properly. I expect it doesn't impact on hunger much because 60g of carbs is less than 1000kJ anyway. A fella my size needs around 11000kJ just to maintain weight.Me too. When I reduce my carbs and keep them around the 30 g a meal mark my bg is fine . Hi @zand how could he call you lazy? You were walking and he was sat in a car!!!Totally agree with you.
Also if we have a condition that makes us jealous of others with a different type of the same condition then it is likewise up to us to recognize that we need to get help for our own mental/emotional problems. We should not be carrying such bitterness around with us, it doesn't do us any good. I paid for 28 counselling sessions to help with my mental health, I just wish those who bash T2s (or anyone else) for their physical health would look to their own behaviour and realise that there is something wrong with themselves emotionally and seek help. After all who in their right mind would be jealous of someone who is obese and has struggled for years to lose weight? My car was in the garage for repairs today. As I set out to walk in the midday sun for 2 miles to collect it a very ignorant/rude/callous young man leaned out of his car window and shouted 'lazy, fat *****'. Normally I would be pretty upset by that. However today I thought of this thread and laughed. I would rather be me than one of the nasty people in this world.
Edit: So I can't say the word for a female dog without getting asterisks then huh?
To be honest the source of my T2 is unknown. I got it all right but don't know with certainty how or why. I put it down to the fact that a significant portion of my immediate family on at least one side are also T2. I just can't prove that this is the cause. You are correct. The reason for this board is about how to manage the condition.Once diagnosed does it really matter how we 'got it'...it should be about how we manage it that's imperative
Give him the bird.Totally agree with you.

Exactly and I suppose that is what this thread is about do we manage Diabetes by total abstinence from carbs or by careful management of the amount of carbs we eat by say eating to the meter to show which foods we can tolerate or by setting our selves a daily allowance governed by what we consider reasonable for our individual requirements I personally have set my self an allowance and also eat to my meter in order to choose the best foods for me to include or exclude from that allowance. The reason for this board is about how to manage the condition
Exactly most people that I know who are t2 were only diagnosed when their condition became obvious and therefore past the prediabetic stageUmm No
I recently phoned for blood test results for someone else and found that she was prediabetic. The notes though said 'HbA1c much better, keep up the good work'. We weren't told that they were worse before! So even when blood tests show up pre-diabetes patients aren't always told about it.Exactly most people that I know who are t2 were only diagnosed when their condition became obvious and therefore past the prediabetic stage
In my case it didn't become obvious as I didn't have any symptoms, I was diagnosed after an over-sixties routine health check, so no chance of taking action at the pre-diabetes stage. To be honest I am not sure I would have done anything anyway. Not knowing what I know now, being told I was pre-diabetic would probably have been like "you could lose a bit of weight" or "don't drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week" good advice that you will do something about one day.Exactly most people that I know who are t2 were only diagnosed when their condition became obvious and therefore past the prediabetic stage
I only knew I was "classed " as diabetic when I received a letter saying that I needed to book "my annual diabetic review" needless to say I phoned the surgery and asked them *** were they on about ...I did phrase that somewhat more politely lolIn my case it didn't become obvious as I didn't have any symptoms, I was diagnosed after an over-sixties routine health check, so no chance of taking action at the pre-diabetes stage. I think you need to stop being so sensitive. As we say in Ireland get over yerself.so you dont mind being rude? even if that rudeness upsets and hurts others on here or people in real life? several people have responded to you about how your way of communicating is hurtful and upsetting in its tone and word choices.
I defend to the death someones right to state their truth and opinion, but i do not agree with someone knowingly being rude and upsetting people in their choice of words (and tone, if in real life) once that upset has been conveyed, and the rudeness is with the knowledge that others can be hurt by it.
Its in the same vein as teaching a child how to be gentle, as they dont realise that their strength can hurt others. We (hopefully) teach them to tailor their response to the situation and person they are playing with.
