Against my better judgment I have read every post on this thread...I'm saddened by some of the comments & views expressed here...I find many of them judgemental...bitter...painful to read...to be classified as selfish... a drain on the NHS services...somehow responsible for my diabetes...I am diagnosed 2 years now...my introduction to diabetes was a phone call from my surgery...'you're diabetic I'll leave a prescription at reception for you .book an appointment with your GP when he's back from holiday'...I knew nothing about diabetes...I was booked on a DESMOND course...had an appointment with my GP followed by an appointment with a DSN...after those appointments I knew even less about my diabetes...the advice was totally sub-standard...inaccurate...often conflicting...eat at least a third of carbs with your meals...eat no carbs...eat moderate carbs...
I read & researched my condition...realised it was important to SMBG & see how my diet impacted on my blood sugars...I persuaded my GP to prescribe testing strips & a meter...I challenged my local CCG who said I was not entitled to strips on prescription...I won...I eat a LCHF diet...I test regularly & control my diabetes well...at my last review the GP described my control as excellent...I once read a comment here by another member which said 'the question for me is did my obesity cause my diabetes or did my diabetes cause my obesity'...that for me is the real issue...the system needs to change...money is continually wasted on hopeless education courses...bad advice...dismissive attitudes.... a lack of understanding of type 2 diabetes (my own GP admitted he knew little about it)....there needs to be real investment in SMBG for T2's...my diabetes is under control...mainly as a result of testing my blood glucose regularly...yes I eat to my meter...I rely on what it tells me...it works for me...I know that for a fact since that's how I manage my condition...please don't judge (blindly)...support those of us who are struggling to control their diabetes when it's needed.
