Diabetes education, newly diagnosed + blood pressure

Free education is rare these
days, but in the UK there are a number of free education programmes for people with diabetes, which are designed to help them better understand their condition and how to keep it under control.

There are bespoke courses for people with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes, newly diagnosed diabetics and those who are being treated with insulin.

Find out more about the different types of courses available and the benefits of each.

Diabetes education programmes
Carbohydrate counting is an important skill for maintaining good blood glucose control in type 1 diabetes.

Many carbohydrate counting courses are based upon or similar to the DAFNE programme, which stands for dose adjustment for normal eating.

Ask your GP or diabetes team if you are interested in being referred onto one of these courses.

DAFNE education programme
There are a number of different education courses for type 2 diabetes but the principles of each are usually similar.

The X-PERT diabetes course is one of the courses which can help those of us with type 2 diabetes to learn about and control our condition.

Ask your GP or diabetes team if you are interested in being referred onto a type 2 diabetes education programme.

X-PERT diabetes courses
Whilst there are a number of diabetes education courses, availability can sometimes be limited.

The DAFNE User Action Group is currently petitioning for improved funding for a national structured education programme to widen access to these courses for more people with diabetes.
