Lidl's high protein/low carb rolls

What is this witchcraft?! Just tried my first one, toasted with loads of butter and an egg! SO delicious and the end of my bread cravings! Only trouble, Lidl is not handy and the freezer's full! Anyone else addicted? ;)

did you test?

I only ask because a small minority of ppl seem to find they do spike their bg. The rest of us are fine.

And yes, I probably only have 2 a week, but savour every bite.
love 'em as toast, esp when cut vertically into fingers.

and they freeze fabulously, but are better sliced before freezing, just like real bread.

Just "like" real bread ! Hmmm, makes we wonder what they are made of. :)

They are mainly soya flour and wheat protein.
I did search out the actual ingredients list at one point, and remember thinking 'goodness, that is no worse that standard bought bread'. But we each make our own decisions, don't we?

I've got a freezer full ever since the discontinuation scare a few weeks ago. Okay, they might not be 'real' bread but it is so nice to have something that doesn't spike me to make a sandwich with or to spread things on. Or, possibly best, to butter, cut into soldiers and dip in a soft boiled egg.

I feel I should stand up in the room and announce my name is ....... and I am a Lidl roll addict! I was always a big bread eater, well bread, rolls, crumpets, croissant the works. So I do miss it. Lidl rolls are a substitute and I have to allow some of my daily carb count for about one and a half a day. Eeeeekk!
However today is the second time I have had a bread episode since starting LCHF on 1st August. I found myself near my favourite artisan French bread shop, and it drew me in with it's tractor beam.Same as last time.I am going to have to avoid this area in future.Shame is their baguette is .......honestly let's not go there.
I have just finished half of a small one with butter,( I know the lethal carbs and fat duo ) my head is starting to feel like I have a headache coming on and I have stomach ache.Preprandial 6.2 and 1hr now 9.6.
Not clever and not worth it.Angry with myself.
Back to Lidl.

I feel your pain! I'm like that every time my husband buys a Morrisons Tiger Loaf. I could easily just cut big fat slices and slather it with butter and honey....

One word of warning though, don't try making lidl protein roll in to bread and butter pudding or stuffing. I have done both and it was revolting.

I was never a big fan of honey, but since reading your post keep dreaming of the aforementioned French bread with loadsa butter and Bonne Maman strawberry jam Breadporn who knew!!
Thanks for the heads up on the stuffing and bread sauce front.I think I am just going to indulge myself with a little of what I fancy offset by some red wine which seems to lower my BG.Well that is the current plan A. I have been a good boy for months now and think it will be good for my future willpower to join in a little with everyone else, in moderation of course. So lots of turkey and a little gravy, bread sauce and a couple of roasties.

Myself I don't miss bread courtesy of protein rolls but I do miss yorkshire puddings. I used to eat them 3 and 4 at a time. No substitute. I just don't have any now. I don't buy them but when I see them for sale I have to be soooo strict with myself.
Thank god for protein rolls. Is the Bergen bread made with the same ingredients?

I think the Lidl rolls are made with soya ,l'm sure I saw a list of ingredients here at some point. So possibly similar to the Burgen Soya and Linseed bread.Raises my BG more than the Lidl rolls tho.
Yorkshire puddings..... Used to make my own enjoyed them more than the rest of a roast dinner.Likewise one of the few things I miss where I cannot find a reasonable substitute.
