My dear wife made some mince pies for the family but up to now I have restrained myself.

Thats another Brownie point, I'll have to get a few minus points or I will be seriously unbalance. :)/;)

Very wise.
Wait til I post a screen shot of my graph tomorrow and you may not want one ever again!

Having just looked it up in several sources, i think it is a dead cert!

Thank you!

Another mystery solved. :D

- and my baseline does drop if I have a few carby days. So that reinforces the theory.
you can thank @Indy51 for pointing that info out in one of her links to papers.

Hi Brun,

Have you thought of trying to get the other glycation test that just covers two weeks.
Forget its name but its expensive?

I didn't even know there was such a test!
I must say that this isn't the first time I have had unexpected HbA1c results. I reduced the carbs (av. 30g less a day) and the HbA1c didn't shift at all (this was a couple of years ago).

So maybe I am just one of those people where the test isn't particularly reliable.

lol.
Yes indeed, and it is developing nicely.
(the mince pies were delicious!)
The graph should show the full horror by about 9.30 I think, so I will post after that.

Phew - At least you could enjoy the torture you are enduring, on our behalf. ;)

.... Drumroll ...

2 delicious mince pies, dusted with icing sugar (and a garnish of 6 blueberries)

Total rise from approx 5 to 9.7 mmol/l in a little over 2.5 hours (total rise 4.7)
If i had tested at 1 hr, i would have got approx 7.5
At 2 hrs it was about 8.5
The lovely double cream must have slowed the peak.

Obviously, everything would have been fine without the blueberries. ;)

I should have let the drop develop fully before posting but i was too hungry, only having had the 2 little beauties since lunch, and ate something which ended the experiment.
:)

Think i have had enough of experiments for a few days. It is going to be a very LC xmas, and I am looking forward to every bite.

9.7, i think. That was the highpoint that i zapped.

Oh, and i am guessing the mince pies were 70-80 g carbs. They are a small 'artisan' brand so they dont have the nutritional breakdown.

Well interestingly your body controlled the rate at which the glucose was released into your system. It stopped you going to high so that is a real success point. So now all we need to know is how much insulin did you produce to do it? Do you have a gadget for that?

I think it is the fat does that.

I should repeat the experient with no cream. But even then, there is a fair amount of fat in the pastry and the mincemeat. A lot of pastry is around 50% fat.

I do know that the graph is higher and steeper and drops quicker with no fat to slow things a bit. :)

If only!!!

Mrs DeeJay, who hardly ever cooks anything, made some excellent mince pies last night, so in solidarity I had one with my peanut butter/chocolate mug cake and cream. It seemed very sweet by comparison, but then so many things seem sweet these days. Apparently.
I didn't test since I've accidentally on purpose run out of strips over Christmas, and anyway you did the job for both of us, so double thanks.
Happy Christmas everyone, btw.
