Type 2 Life

Hi all, hope you have all had a good start to the week. I have managed to get my hands on a BG monitor and tested my bloods yesterday evening and again this morning. Yesterday evening was appts 3hours post meal as I was unable to test any earlier, and I was 8.2, this morning I have just tested pre-breakfast and I think it's a bit high as 7.4... What do u think? Will retest again 2 hours after breakfast and see what the scores on the doors say at that point.

@Diamum5972 - Thank You and I too Barbara love Horror Movies, the bloody and gory the better. And haunted houses too, we have Ghost Walks throughout the City and quite a few Pubs here in York that are supposed to be haunted. When I was in Nursing (years ago) and did Night Duty on my own I always hoped I would see the ghost of a lady in Victorian Dress who "stalked" the ward's at night - never did. The hospital was built in 1890's and was very gothic.
Oh I love York, we visited the Jorvik Centre and York Minster years ago and I wanted to go on the Ghost Walk but the rest of my family were wusses! I volunteer at my community theatre which is based in a former college which was built in the 20s. One of my fellow volunteers is "sensitive" and one day when she was working backstage she saw something walking towards her but when she turned round to call someone it disappeared! I have several stories like this but I think we'll scare everyone off if we continue :)

Cold from hell causing me a sleep problem. Had 3 hrs earlier now in bed again. Nite nite you lovely people. Hoping I feel dandy tomorrow.
Sending you hugs Vicky, my cold finally surfaced properly last night and after a restless night I woke up to 8.3 this morning!

@PenfoldAPD I'm ill. I have so much to do today too.
I feel like a puffer fish ha ha. Lost my voice. My family are celebrating. Peace at last. Ha ha :confused::confused:

Hope you both feel better very soon, sending loads of cwtches to both of you. xxx

Morning all, I hope you all have a good day, or as good as possible.

Once again I would like to thank you all for the hugs and messages, I really appreciated them. Got a few things to do today so I'll catch up with you all later. Karen xx

Morning all! 3 days away hence no posts, zero signal in the Purbeck Hills :) My FBG this morning was 6.1 so I must have been good as I wanted to be. Travelling/holidays are hardest I find and didn't want to go off the rails. Even managed a couple of pints of very dry Cider which had little effect on the BG. But stuck to LCHF and was prepared with LivLife bread, low carb sausages etc.

Camping was awesome - picture below for those who thought I'd be totally roughing it! New tent, new camp kitchen - and so happy I didn't hit the silly BG numbers I did on a trip to Germany.

Have a great day everyone :)

Hi Aamena!Well done on getting a monitor - now you'll really be able to see how diabetes affects you and how you can take control of it.
We're all different, and what may be a high reading for one person may be really good for another, and the best person to judge if your readings are on fleek is you, once you've started to get a picture of what's normal for you.
Your 3 hours post-dinner reading of 8.2 might be a little high - but of course it would depend on what you had for dinner...
When were you diagnosed? Do you know what your levels were on diagnosis? Are you on any meds?
Good for you on making a start, though, and taking control!
Hugs x
:)

Totally agree

@Sable_Jan and @debrasue, was diagnosed approx 6 weeks ago. Yesterday I went out for the first time since being diagnosed as I had other complications before which meant I couldn't be active. When I was diagnosed my hba1c was quite high I believe. I think it was around 12.5. I'm on metformin 1g twice a day. And yesterday we met with some friends where there was food throughout the day, but i was very good and only ate the healthier options from what was there, such a Thai veg soup, Thai veg curry with only a little bit of rice, for pudding they had put out fruit and kulfis, I had the fruit only.

I have several stories too - which is why I'm such a wuss about it all!
Here's one for you: One night, around 30 years ago, I was bringing my daughter home from Brownies. It was a clear, dry evening, just starting to get dark but visibility was still good. My daughter, aged about 7, was in the front passenger seat. The road we were travelling down was 2-way, straight, and there were no obstructions. As we approached a church on the left-hand side, I saw a man standing at the roadside, apparently waiting to cross. He appeared to be in his 30s, medium height, slim build, with fair hair and a neutral colour shirt & trousers (maybe beige or grey). We were the only car on the road in either direction.
Just as I drew level with him, he stepped out into the road, directly into our path! I slammed on the brakes, swerved, and yelled in shock, as did my daughter. We came to a halt and I instinctively immediately looked behind to see if we had hit him. There was nobody there. "Where did he go?" said my daughter, as mystified as I was.
There was nowhere for him to be hiding; the road was straight with walls on either side, and even if he had gone back into the church there were steep steps leading upwards into it and he wouldn't have had time to reach or ascend them. He had totally vanished into thin air.
I made several enquiries but couldn't find any explanations as to who he may have been - either temporal or spiritual - so I've filed it under "Inexplicable", but have never forgotten it, and neither has my daughter.

Fruit can be quite high in carbs/sugars, depending on which fruit it is, and also the rice could have spiked your levels, but you're obviously on the right track because you've already achieved a considerable drop from your levels on diagnosis. Well done! What diet/eating plan are you following?

Being outdoors - yes, 100%. Camping - jury's still out. You haven't shown us your sleeping/bathroom arrangements! ;)

Best I can do for a pic inside the tent @debrasue it's huge! 2 bedrooms but unzipped to make one, super cosy under the winter duvet from home!

When I was diagnosed 6 months ago I used to have weetabix or porridge for breakfast - I swapped to greek yoghurt with berries. Sometimes I have a good old fashioned fry up :)

Yes, Oatibix definitely wouldn't work for me, either, as it's very high in carbs and would spike my BG levels straight away. I follow the LCHF approach (low carbs/high fat), so I avoid most carbs such as flour, rice, oats, bread, potatoes, pasta, couscous, etc. and instead for breakfast I have things like scrambled eggs, bacon, good quality pork sausages, full fat Greek yoghurt, berries (fresh or frozen), etc.
I'm not sure whether you've had a welcome post from @daisy1 so I'm tagging her, as she has some very helpful information which she can offer if you're looking for food options.

Good Morning, my lovely friends on the www.diabetes.co.uk Type 2 Life Forum,

I am posting to inform you all that my health centre staff member, a very nice nurse practitioner, gave to myself a brand new True You blood glucose monitor to replace the one that either got taken from my home or misplaced by myself because of attention deficit anomalies in my autism spectrum disability/ADHD. She had to set the clock on it and check the battery power in it. I have got it now and I am going to keep it in its box and little zip-up bag with a new finger pricker and test strips.

I administered my Lixisenatide 10 mcg injection, 1000 mg of metformin, and adhd medication.

My blood glucose reading (fasting) this morning at 11:31 ante meridian was 6.7 Millimoles Per Litre.

Have a lovely day, my good, fellow diabetic friends.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Johnny Baker
Sufferer of autistic spectrum disability, adhd and suspected clinical depression.

Put 5 words after my FBG post this morning and told off. Clearly I don't know the rules around here so think probably easier if I just wander off .. have enough on my plate already :(

Noooooo!!!! Don't do that - we need you!
I did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago and got exactly the same result, and I felt like a naughty schoolgirl. I think some of the Mods have a softer, more friendly way with words than others! Which isn't surprising, as we're all human, I guess, but I took it rather personally and crept away to lick my wounds for a while.
Since then I've been reposting my FBGs and, because this forum gives me exactly what I need, I'm prepared to toe the line over stuff like this. I don't understand why it has to be that way on that thread, but whatever....
Don't take it to heart, Penfold - please! Hugs xx
