Except if they are like my GP surgery. I asked for online access to my medical records and submitted the consent form in September, and I still don't have access.

Chase it up. I had to - I emailed the practice manager. I had a reply back next day with apologies. My results were on-line immediately.

Did those of you who can see you medical records online have to pay to do this. I looked it up on my doctors web site and it said to apply to the practise manager and it could mean an administration charge

No, nothing. I don't believe they should be or are allowed to charge under the NHS. They can charge for printed copies

I thought perhaps it was a one off charge that they make to put the records online

@bigjim19 - Oilatum is available to buy without a prescription in most Chemists, I use it but get it on Prescription from GP.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned before and I'm repeating somebody else's recommendations (too many posts to trawl through) - I think the main point about moisturising own feet is not to keep them moist (bad idea as stated above) but so you get to know the look and feel of them so you'll be more likely to know if they/your skin starts changing for the worse.

@Toffer, Hi
No, I don't think this aspect of applying cream to feet has been mentioned. I can appreciate what you are saying and, yes, it is important to be aware of any issues with your feet.

However, I am under the impression that the use of a moisturizer to feet, for diabetics, is actually to help keep the skin in the best possible condition as all diabetics are at greater risk of problems so the healthier the skin, the less likely to have problems.

Using a moisturizer doesn't mean plastering it on and leaving your feet covered in a layer of cream. Yes, that would mean leaving your feet 'wet'. I believe it's essential to use only a small amount of moisturizer, massage it into the skin thoroughly until it is drying off. During this massage, it's a good time to check your feet are warm to the touch and that you can feel your touch. If in doubt, seek professional advice, of course. If you are able, it's also a good time to check the pulses (plural) in your feet.

Hopefully, that makes sense and that you are not leaving your feet in a state of layers of cream ;)

I did write to the practice manager after my HbA1c test. He/she seems to want to remain anonymous, so I didn't know name and they don't provide an email address. I pointed out that I had asked for online access and it still wasn't available, and requested a printout, which was provided (without charge).
I am due for my next HbA1c test in March, and if my records aren't accessible online before then I will chase it up then.
I suspect it is more due to the GP who I am registered with, whom I haven't seen for 17 years since I first registered with the practice. I didn't think much of this GP's attitude then, so saw other GPs at the surgery after my first encounter. That GP also happens to be the 'diabetes specialist' for the surgery.

Access to online test results and so on is free.
However there may be Administration charges if people want to see their full records - this referring to the Data Protection Act, where people are entitled to read what data that is held about them, and applies to other organisations too.

So do the people here who have online access see their full medical records or is it just things like test results

I believe the basic access is test results and so on.
There are then further levels of access subject to decisions made by the doc or surgery.
But where there is sensitive information that is deemed to be potentially 'upsetting' or 'stressful' to the patient, then the decision may be made to only grant the basic access.

I can see all my blood and urine test results going back several years, presumably to when they were first held on a computer. I can also see one line entries of the reasons I saw a GP, plus test results for things like mammograms, smear tests, bowl cancer screening and so on. There is also a list of various diagnosis made arranged according to severity in date order, also all the vaccinations I've had going back many, many years and this includes my baby ones for measles and whatnot in 1948!!!! There are gaps in those though. This is very useful if you want to know if you are due any boosters for, say, tetanus. Then of course I can make appointments and order repeat prescriptions.

The only thing I can currently do online at my GP surgery is order prescriptions by e-mail!

You can only see things like test results and prescriptions approved. Letters to the GP from consultants etc are not accessible. Yes, a practice can withhold access if they think it's against the patient's interest.

This isn't really good enough. Your surgery already has the test results and you are entitled to a full print out, but you do have to ask for this. Also, if your surgery is up to date, they will have followed the guidelines, which say all surgeries should put medical records on line by April 2016. If you are interested in seeing your results on-line (usually 1 to 2 days after your test) you need to register your interest with the surgery, complete a consent form, provide some ID and away you go. No need to wait weeks for them.
Well I never knew about the online results thing!!! Is this in the UK? I'd really like to be able to access this if so. Thank you
