Hey!

My type-1 has been uncontrollable for the last month, high blood sugars have been a average thing...
I've been in hospital 3 times in the past due to this, and really dont want to go in again
Can someone help me?

I assume you've checked that your injecting sites aren't overused?
You haven't got an infection? (Probably they've checked that at the hospital.)
Insulin hasn't gone off?
Insulin pens are dispensing correctly?

Everything is working fine, injection sites aren't overused.
I've had a lot of stress in real life recently, and my hba1c is checked on the 15th, I'm really scare about being admitted back to the ward, which i HATE.. I'm tempted to try and skip this hospital appointment, to be able to fix it all,

Don't skip hospital appointment. Use it to ask for some psychological support within your diabetes team.

They'll admit me straight away no questions asked, if i'm entirely honest my nurse is really snobby and mean, we've considered changing area as we live in the middle of two teams

Hello
I didnt get Type 1 until I was 19, so I never went through the stressful school years, trying to be normal. With your high sugars, would you be eligible for an insulin pump? (One good reason to go to your appointment.) I really like the pump because instead of diabetes controlling me, I control my diabetes. If I want to eat less/more I don't need to carb load to balance the morning's dosage. Plus, a high sugar can be dealt with instantly, no waiting until next meal bolus or extra injections. It helps my control immensely. Try and explain to the Doctor/Nurse that sitting in a hospital bed is nothing like real life. You need control for a real life situation not a hospital bed situation.
All the best for Thursday

Hi test your blood sugars regularly and get the feel of your diabetes. Emotions can affect sugar, exercise or lack of. Each day is slightly different so adjust insulin accordingly. Plus give yourself a break you're doing your best. A good specialist nurse at your local hospital often is helpful. It's hard going sometimes but we understand as we're going through the same struggle, all the best Jon

They won't understand me, plus I don't go to school, I'm privately tuitored. This is all so stressful and confusing

Many many many adult T1s went through "bad" patches in their teens, so you're not alone in having times when things don't go so well.

And I didn't take in that you were 14 when I answered your first post, so I forgot something obvious : you're entering/have entered your peak growing years and you need much more food and much more insulin!

I'm sorry your diabetic nurse is unkind/unhelpful, can you ask to see someone else? Her job is to help you, not criticise/persecute you. Can you tell your parents how you're feeling and get them to support you during your clinic checkups.?

Please don't let your past bad experiences put you off from going to the clinic - even if, worst case scenario, they make you go back to hospital to be rebalanced, they should help you to take control of your diabetes and feel better in the future. There is wonderful technology out there: cgms, insulin pumps, etc. And I know they've been telling me that there'll be a cure in ten years since I was 8 in 1970, but I do think that you young people won't be diabetic forever, or at least the technology will make the illness much easier to manage.

Good luck, and remember if you need moral support there are lots of diabetics on these forums who understand at least some of what you're going through.

Teenagers sometimes have unpredictable blood sugars due to changes in their body and hormones...could this be happening to you? There's no way to fix it but at least it's an explanation.

Are you eligible to get a pump or cgm? That can help a lot with your control when used correctly.

Also, the usual high treatment routine - combination of bolus, exercise and plenty of water! Even 10min walking can have dramatic effects on my blood sugars, so try it out and see if it helps. (And ketone tests if you are 13+, especially after prolonged highs).

Do you know any cheap CGM's that we can self-fund, NHS is refusing to fund the libre, and I don't have insurance for the expensive dexcom

Hi there, I see you are only 14, do you get any support from your parents?
I get support off of my dad, my mum, theres a whole story behind that and my dad's usually out at work.
and his best friend is usually the one looking after me

Hi @Raymond J I appreciate you don't want to end up in hospital however you do need to attend your hospital appointment, it's vital that you keep in touch with your team and it may not mean you will end up in hospital.

There aren't any cheap CGMs sadly, it's really a case of going back to basics, keep a diary, write everything down, so time tested, result, insulin taken, carbs eaten. What you need to do is look for patterns.

Who is privately tutoring you is it a parent or family friend ? Can you go through your results with them to review and check what's going on ? As a forum no one here can advise you on adjusting your doses, but if you can see a regular pattern with your results then you know where you will need to take action.

We spoke to my nurse on the phone, theres a small chance they'll probably put me into the hospital for a high HBA1C which is what I feared but... :/ - Private tutoring is done by a local company.

Can I ask how many times a day you test your blood sugars?

5 times a day

are you testing in some consistent way? Imagine you have three meals - it leads to 9 measurements. before meal, 1h and 2h after meal. This kind of measurement gives you whole picture. After some time you can measure only before meal and 2h after meal - 6 times a day.

Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner - Supper - Before bed, never been told about 2h testing, and usually inbetween if im high.

You will see, that regardless of the carbs type, mainly only the number of grams is important - thus “LC” (low carb) diet is the solution.
I measured, that I can accept max 5g of carbs in one meal to not cross 1h limit of 7.7. You can be the lucky man and accept much more - As I read this forum, typical is around 50g a day. You have to catch your number.

The poster is a 14 year old T1, not an adult T2. Honestly, I don't think this advice is applicable.
