What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Good morning all. Got up early to prepare for a meeting (after only 5 hrs of sleep) -- was done quickly, so could have slept in.

Blood sugars were 5.4.

@flexi06 -- Well done. Hope the trend continues for you.
@Canvaspic -- Wow! Wonderfully done. How did you do it?
@SueJB and @ianpspurs -- Usually, I never drink more than two glasses (normally less than this unless we go out) -- thus, loads for me would be be anything in excess of this.

@ziggy_w I would never have doubted your good sense in drinking sensibly for one minute. Difficult to gauge reaction or tone via internet but I sense a little pain in that comment. If so copious apologies for any hurt. If not I am a male so emotional intelligence missed out of manufacture.:angelic:

You are correct -- there is a certain amount of regret. Before being diagnosed, I sometimes drank a whole bottle by myself when dining with friends. Alas, no more -- I am conscious of the effect of alcohol on the liver. (I try to tell myself up to two glasses are okay because my liver no longer has to deal with fructose.) The problem is there often is so much evening left at the end of the wine.

Where are the times when we could eat and drink, without having to think about it?

@ziggy_w I would suggest if not all of us then most of us are here because we strayed from the path of righteousness. It ill behoves any of us to come over all moat and beam like. You are doing fine now and will continue on wiser/different. Also, everyone should remember that in the words of a song I love to exercise to "your body is a wonderland" Please everyone don't take that as a spooky old man being naff! Edit: just listened again and I now fear coming over as all Swiss Tony when the chorus is my target/earworm:banghead:

thank you @ianpspurs for those kind words, I know I have to try to keep a lid on this for as long as I can so I try making it as enjoyable and varied as possible ;)
@SueJB - hope you enjoyed the rhubarb, I know I did :)

Have a good day everyone, if it stays bright I shall probably do a bit of gardening, doing battle with a gone wild rose bush at the moment, chopping it into little bits is very theraputic, (I don't mind them per se but not when they're taking over the path - they have very effective thorns).
 
5.8 yesterday and 6 today. Had breakfast late at 10 - so wanted to see how much of a liver dump I would get before eating - it rose to 6.7 then dropped to 5.8 within a couple of hours - that is better than other dumps, where it kept rising into the 7s.

@geefull I am glad my post was appreciated and enjoy the gardening. In terms of "keeping a lid on it" I am looking for testimonials/accounts of people following your kind of path successfully for 20+ years.. We should name it the geeful pathway, so much more optimistic than the other well known pathway!

That’s pretty good going then! Your liver must be exhausting it’s stores.

I try doing this sometimes but panic once it starts rising in the 7s. You’ve given me a bit of hope though and I’ll try again soon.

I know how you feel - I find it hard to watch it rise - especially as it may affect my next HbA1c - it's so unpredictable though - who knows what will happen tomorrow? What I'd love is to know which part of me needs 'fixing' the most - is it too much fat in the liver or an exhausted pancreas which means I see a liver dump. An vice versa - when not so much of a dump does it mean liver is pumping out less sugar or my pancreas/insulin resistance is improving? It's all such a mystery!

@eggs11 I totally agree, I find this a real problem as well. I just tested in lieu of breakfast and was @5.4 then checked and rose to 5.7. The no breakfast reading averages almost 1 higher than last reading of the day. At the moment my solution is to exercise moderately after drinking tea but I will try cider vinegar in water. Today I have just eaten kale chips and small piece of cheese because I was not happy with that rise and did not feel great to exercise soon after waking. I think I will alternate between continuing IF with moderate cardio and very low carb breakfast depending on how I feel. This rise and impact on my HbA1c is not something up with which I am prepared to just put! Inch by inch, marginal gains, law of small numbers etc

Edit: Now at 5.3 after an hour but could be lulling me into a false sense of security; Now 5.4 after 4 hrs and a coffee with cream. Not especially happy but I may not be firing on all cylinders so that may explain it.

Yes! This is what confuses me too! I change my focus daily, sometimes thinking I should let my liver dump away till it’s done, and other times thinking I should concentrate on keeping numbers as low as I can. It’s such a confusing and contrary disease!
I guess that so long as we stick with it, whatever route we choose will get us there eventually ( that’s what I tell myself anyway). Keep going.

Hope you regain your vigour @karen8967 I know the feeling but it is the best kind of tiredness and I am always grateful I can do it. Those moments go too quickly and are beyond anything else I have experienced.
