What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

good morning all :)

4.4 today

our weather was weird earlier this morning. It was between 0'C and 1'C when I got up and within an hour it was 9'C . An incoming mild and wet front methinks ;) anything that keeps me from having to add yet another layer of clothes has to be ok though :)

We have to go shopping today, we have no cauliflower, can't remember the last time that happened since I went LCHF :hilarious:.
I may buy some ingredients to have a try at some LC biscuits ready for Xmas. Every time mum offers me a cup of tea she says 'and I can't offer you a biscuit' so I'm going to try making a few lemon cookies and almond shortbread off my list of recipes first I think. The cookie recipe looks pretty customisable so probably choc chip or spice cookies could follow if it works out ok.

Hope your day treats you well :)

I have to confess that my last HBa1c was higher than last years (45 last years 43) when my activity levels have increased over the year and my carbing is lower.

That’s very frustrating. I think it was @rhubarb73 who said it seems to be a law of diminishing returns and I have to agree. I’m having the same issues and it seems I can either go for good bgs or weight loss but not both and as I don’t want to lose any more weight I’m stumped.

I sympathise but I am a bit more portly so I can't use that excuse. I do wonder if we all have a natural or ideal body weight for all the dory's to be hunky. I am fairly sure mine is nearer the 12.5 stone marker than the 11.5 ish (74 kgs today; height 184 cms) I have bludgeoned it into trying to control bg. Body may well be trying to take back control.

I'm not that bothered being skinny , it doesn't feel unhealthy . The higher glucose levels are somewhat concerning though. I'm wondering if they are being driven by an excess of caffein. I tend to drink lots , strong and fresh. I'll try to cut down over the next week or so and see what happens.

At least there were no cupcakes with their odious toppings or coconut involved so I am relatively sanguine. I do find you, being almost my polar opposite in many ways, wholly admirable. Anyone who knows me would look agasp and say "did you really just say that about someone other than Gareth Bale or Clive Lloyd?":angelic:
Don't be offended when I say this but, although the names rang big bells I had to Google. I'm in fabulous company. You have bestowed a great honour upon me. Thank you kind sir :).

I swear by weight training pound for pound for blood sugar numbers, fasting and post prandial in my case (HBA1c for me is another matter). Admittedly I might be classed as approaching amateur level, but I think it is possible to make gains relative to ones self. I have not been able to do free weighted bicep curls so have performed band based hammer curls as an alternative (I would have loved to have pushed curls).

The jam for me recently (lower 4's fbg, late 4 / early 5 post prandials) has been free-weight deadlifts, free-weight squats and over head dumb bell presses, augmented by regular weight machine, push pull exercises, especially the lateral pull down and sitting lateral leg press. When I do singles around 85% of my perceived one rep max for deadlifts and lat pull downs, I can read between 10 and 12 calorie burns on the Fitbit for that single exertion.

I think the base of general training is a great set point to see if weights work for you. It may be possible to effect similar muscle reaction with body weight exercise. Form over numbers if you are going to try this, and try to get a gym instructor / PT to check your form. From a physiological angle, it makes sense that building muscle density encourages GLUT4 insulin independent up take of glucose and with greater surface area of muscle more room for the glucose to go in, in combination with the epoch effect.

you are doing the right thing I am sure, who would ever regret having one's muscles in optimal shape, it feels good and I am sure that 30kg of unfit muscles that hardly ever move is really bad for a human being, the muscles get rigid and unable to move fully over longer periods of non-use and by the way it also takes its toll on skeleton bones because half of the skeleton is carried by fit muscles and when not used the skeleton bones sink down and also ride on each other,
I really don't understand why people can think that fit muscles are not essential...but that said it can be hard to get started after years of almost non-moving

Sorry to make 2 of you share a post but we are among friends.
Oh, they are right up there so, yes, consider yourself at the top table. @OrsonKartt skinny isn't where I think we need to be with this condition. First things I read on DX struck a chord - you need muscle to fight this condition. I am happy to be this size/weight provided there is muscle a plenty. Calves are now a no go area allegedly so can't run which is a shame as my current body composition/size is set up for that rather than anything else. I feel a keen sense that I urgently need more muscle. First time I had a flu jab after DX the diabetic nurse said, "oo, we've got muscle" what a mad witch. That seems the minimal requirement for dealing with this.

Been running pretty low recently. Was 4.3 today, 5.2 yesterday(which was after a late night hypo snack the previous night), 5.2 the day before again after a late night hypo snack the previous night, 4.3 the day before that, 4.6 the day before that, 4.4 the day before that, 3.8 the day before that, 4.7 the day before that, 4.5 the day before that, 4.4 the day before that and 4.9 the day before that.

Not sure if sitting around 4.5 FBG every day is good or not. I'd generally prefer to be around low 5s if I am honest. Maybe I should drop my basal from 12 to 11 units? That might give it a little bump up, what do you think? Or just leave it?

Mine was 8.1 without any medication. I take medication now and than. I think taking medication regularly and for life time makes your organ weaker than average.
Depends on the medication and what it does Metformin for example cannot be taken on an occasional basis as it is accumulative and needs to be taken regularly.

And of course if you are T1 insulin cannot be taken on an occasional basis as far as I know.

Needs a well clued up type 1 to answer that I would say. Luckily, plenty on here so likely to be the old London Bus routine soon enough.

4.6 this morning. (Very happy with this, I'm a diet only Type 2 who's never had a hypo).

I moved my weigh in date to Monday (will eventually move to it Sunday).
Today was a loss of 2.6 lbs (1.18 kg)
total weight loss: 61.19 lbs (27.76kg - 4 stone 5.19)

from 273.59 lb (124.09 kg) July 5 to
212.4 lb (96.34 kg) today.

BMI: was 48.0, now 36.5, lost over 22% of starting weight

My next small goals is to weigh less than my husband (206 lbs), get into BMI Obesity Class 1 (under 35 BMI - 203 lbs or less), lose 25% of original weight (under 205.2) and get below 200 lbs.

6.5 Monday morning.

I bought a pumpkin loaf cake for Thanksgiving dinner and breakfast and was doing really well resisting the temptation of it sitting in the fridge ... then last night I ate two slices ( = about 34g carbs). :(

I think I'd better move it to the freezer to keep 'til Thursday.
