So I’ve just done my first low carb shop and...

I was due to have cottage pie tonight but made the mozzarella meatballs instead. I can definitely recommend them :)

Already had butter and yogurt in the fridge. We always seem to have lots of yogurt. Too much yogurt.
We always go for Kerrygold butter. Interesting about the Yoghurts because you see so many different views on this. I make my own yoghurt with the Easiyo system & have a small pot of it after dinner. It's fresh & delicious. Can I please ask about pork scratchings as I love them but my feelings are they are salt laden & therefore very bad to eat regularly. Your thoughts would be very welcome. I have 2 boiled eggs for my 10.00hrs lunch, 2 chicken thighs for my 13.00hrs lunch, & then a vegetable & meat laden dinner around 18.00hrs. I do grow & eat carrots, swede, butternut squash, leafy greens, onions, etc. & then my yoghurt. I try to have a small gin at night as it's great for Arthritis but mostly drink tap water. I may have 3-4 coffees & at least 2 cups of nettle tea a day. I will confess that Thursday night is big treat night & I have a cake.

We have had a yogurt maker, unused, in one of the cupboards for ...5 years ?. Another one of my partners “ideas”.

I like Pork scratchings but yes they are very salty so I wouldn’t eat packet after packet but a few as a snack , particularly as they are carb free, won’t do too much harm.

I had a full English...well eggs, bacon, tomato and mushrooms for breakfast and that kept me full until I had a mackerel salad this evening (with two very small foam banana sweets - hard going without so much sugar so quickly..) and I’ve had three cups of tea today..oh, and some Pork scratchings, one small bag.

And I have been out for a walk..

I hope I am doing okay but this is all very new to me when it comes to diet changes so I know it will take time to get it right.

Interesting. Yes I think she’s hoping to lose weight by copying me as nothing else she’s tried has seemed to work consistently.
My partner was diagnosed in June. He's lost about 4 stone (HBA1C down from 122 to 41 in November!) and I've lost just over 3 stone to boot! I'm down from a size 18 to size 14 for the first time in my adult life! I'm not diabetic, but I'm the main cook and it is far easier just to cook the same meals for both of us. I have full fat yoghurt, cream in my coffee and plenty other fats daily. This has by far been the easiest way to lose weight....I'm hardly ever left feeling hungry unlike with low-fat diets. Tell her to give it a go! She'll thank us when she starts dropping dress sizes!

That's fantastic. Once you get into yoghurt making it becomes routine. I make a weeks supply on a Sunday. I got caught complacent recently & been very naughty and have paid the price of putting weight on again so tomorrow morning it's weigh in and then back strictly low carb

Ah, I wish.

She does go to Slimming World but her weight yo-yo’s and she’s spent the afternoon stuffing her face with chocolate.

Sometimes I just want to bang my head against a wall.

I dare to suggest your husband has married a 'keeper'..:D

Fantastic effort from you both, and I have to agree, having never dieted before, THIS LCHF, format is just...SO easy, I don't get why every one doesn't try it at least once, before going the slimming club route.:bookworm:

We have an Easiyo thingy......do you use milk or cream to make it? Do you use

Ah...but that is one of great things, chocolate is allowed. She just needs to get a taste for the dark stuff! But obviously not stuff her face.....everything in moderation!

I've done Weightwatchers many times, which is similar to Slimming World, but I have always struggled to lose or keep the weight off. The problem is that low-fat options do not keep you full and carbs just make you more hungry. If she is serious about wanting to lose weight, then it is definitely worth a try. She might change her mind when she sees the pounds falling off you!

Only the sachet & water. No milk or cream involved.

You're doing great. Changed healthier diet combined with walking excellent. You might consider swapping the sweets for dark chocolate. Over the weeks your taste buds will change, I now do 100% dark chocolate and if I have say 95% this tastes sweet.

Dark chocolate makes me nauseous. The sweets will go over time but it will take time as I’m no good at going cold turkey.

Oh she likes dark chocolate...and milk, and with nuts in, and fruit, and caramel...

We will see. Not that I have that many pounds to lose...though I suppose that is a matter of opinion.

Start at 70% and work your way upwards. I also found that having a few berries curbed the sweet cravings in the early days. Your tastebuds will change over time. Do you or your wife like baking? If you do, then you'll find there's lots of low carb sweet treats you can make with alternative sweetners.

She used to bake. But yes, we will have to look at low carb sweet treats...
