Type 1'stars R Us

I welcome anyone to this thread.
I really do think it is great that we try to understand the biological, psychological and any other difference between type 1, type 2, MODY, Reactive Hypoglycaemia, LADA, ...
But trying to work out how our brains work ... that is a huge challenge. Good Luck :wacky:

Same here, Daphne, @Molly56 , Mr Clive have all posted on here and the latter are long time forum friends. A big welcome to one and all :)
If anyone looked in my head, I think Dougal's head, from Father Ted, would come to mind lol :wacky:

The Sainsbury’s ones are nice as well!
I’m fairly lucky in that I can get away with eating an average of 130 carbs per day and know what, and how, foods affect my BS and if I go overboard it’s not the end of the world whereas with T1s and other diabetics on insulin etc it seems to be very much a balancing act in which a mistake can have serious consequences.

It's definitely a balancing act @Daphne917 .

TBH not I am not really to bothered what the DSN or Drs think about how low my HBA1c is, I simply do it for myself and my own piece of mind. Yes that was a bit of an "off" day and seems that no matter what I did it was going to stay on the low side.

Last time I saw a DSN, Etch A Sketch follow up, my HB was 39 and got asked "you sure your diabetic"
"Was last time I looked"
"Your not hypoing are you?"
"Of cause I hypo I'm a T1 we all do at some point it just part of what we are, sometimes get it right sometimes wrong :)"

Did cause a smile and she was happy with the answer.

I would of said "Well if I'm not diabetic, I will suing the a*s off of someone (1st port of call................. would be North Tees General )

What is happening???? looks like at least 2 T2s have infiltrated the ranks and by the look of it aren't even insulin users, good heavens what ever next?...................:playful::hilarious:

Too right she will! Whats the point in eating Low carb and vegan..........you might as well swallow air!!! :bag::p:hilarious:

:sorry::angelic:
@slip we get everywhere - just when you think you’re safe another T2 low carb warrior crawls out of the woodwork!! I have been lucky in that I have been able to control my T2 through diet and my hba1c has never been too high - my hba1c was 48 on diagnosis increasing to 54 when I started taking statins and reduced when I stopped the statins and I have had non diabetic levels for approx 5 years. However my mother was a T2 on insulin so I appreciate how much effort needs to go into juggling diet and insulin etc.

Piano is all back together again!

Christingles is what we will be making. I am not responsible for getting the oranges or dolly mixtures. Just ensuring the non-perishable component parts are available. Picture now added, along with the camels... I now know far more about coloured egg boxes and where to get them than anyone really needs to know. But, for brown camels, we need Morrisons egg boxes, mostly.

At least, I hope we're having dolly mixtures. I had a seriously angst-laden crisis the year we had mini jelly babies. (Before I was diagnosed, this was.) I mean, just where does the cocktail stick go?!? It didn't matter where it went, it was Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.

This is why I can't use jelly babies as hypo fixes - I worry too much about whether or not it's head first, feet first, all at once... Far less angst with dextro tablets.
How about fruit pastilles? I buy a bag with just the black and red ones in.

Evening all,
Just back from my first day of DAFNE. Really great to meet some T1s and share. I didn't enjoy being inside all day and only walked to the canteen for lunch. I don't understand the need for "carb portions" instead of just sticking with grams of carbs. Heyho, off I go tomorrow to gain more information.

Had a bad day Karen?

Hi @SueJB , hope you enjoy the course. I had been type 1 for 37 years but went on the course last year. It was real eye opener for me and I learned a lot. It was also great to meet other type 1's.

Our course was called ADAPT, basically the same course and we talked in terms of "grams of carbs"

That's shocking @karen8967! Poor you! I've had to look it up, maybe I'm the only one here who doesn't know about parking lights at night, I had to look it up. Does the road you live on really have a speed limit over 30? I've never heard of this in too many years of driving to own up to.
