What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I think I had both of the tests done on Monday and have another appointment this coming Monday. They seem to have fast tracked me as my levels were so high - I went to the doctors because since quitting smoking I couldn't get off the toilet weirdly - so I had tests for everything my doctor could imagine and the one that came back worryingly high was blood sugar. Similar levels to you - 100 and then 97 on second test by GP. Original appointment for diabetes centre wasn't until March 11th but my doc was amazing and got me an app at the hospital to fast track me in one of their 'hot clinics'. Now due to them being worried that I am type 1 the diabetic nurse that came to see me in the hospital has managed to get me an appointment at the centre for this coming Monday. I feel stupidly lucky that everything is happening so quick after reading your story, it must be hell waiting so long to know what is happening :(:(
I'm also 26 with a BMI of 20. No family history other than great nana got type 2 very late on in life, which is why they're a bit confused I think.
I m now on the same as you were initially - 2 x 500mg metformin a day. But I seem to have gone back to not being able to get off the toilet which I've read can be a side effect. This had stopped from cutting out sugar as soon as the word 'diabetes' was mentioned, so infuriating that it's now back because of the meds...
How many times do you have to inject? This is the main thing that is scaring me, I'm so petrified of injections I just can't imagine doing it to myself. They tried to get me to start it straight away on Monday at the hospital, I broke down completely and they agreed to leave it till next week when we have proper diagnosis. It's all so much to take in, I'm struggling. And everyone I tell simply says "At least it's a managable condition! It's not the end of the world!" Which really isn't helping me mentally right now.
Hey, I was also rushed through but I had 6 exams 3 weeks after diagnosis so I could only go to the doctors at certain times. I’m glad I’m now under care of the diabetes centre rather than my GP. I also had issues with the blood tests not getting to the lab in time which meant having to go back and have them redone which caused further delays.

I also initially refused the insulin as I felt like it was all rushed and put it off 2 weeks. I must say it is the best thing I ever done to go on it as I can actually function relatively normal now.

I was worried as felt it was going to hurt but he nurses teach you how to do it properly. Just grab a bit of skin when injecting and you don’t even feel it.... I can honestly say that the finger pricking hurts more than the insulin pen.

At the moment I’m only on 10 units at night but I think this is due to increase due to me struggling wth levels in the morning.

I completely agree that sometimes people say the wrong things. I am always told stupid things like ‘I think Diet Coke caused it’ or ‘you can’t be diabetic as you’re not fat’. Don’t let other peoples stupid comments get to you. This forum has been a godsend in speaking to people who actually understand.

I would just limit your carbs and try to keep active and drink plenty of water before you see the doctors. Also don’t be too scared of the insulin, it is honestly OK.

According to some, passenger jets will soon be manned by only one pilot and a dog. The pilot is there to feed the dog. The dog is there to bite the pilot if the pilot touches anything.
Train the dog?

Manning an aircraft takes a very dogged sort of pilot.

Morning All. 6.6 at 0800 according to Codefree. Yesterday I went to an independent optician after struggling for the past 6 weeks with my new glasses from a high street chain who werent interested in my problems. Anyway turns out I have a significant bleed behind right eye and have an urgent referral to hospital. I am so disappointed after more than a year of good control and it is the second bleed same eye in just over a year.
Anyway hope you are all ok. Have a good Thursday almost the weekend.
Stay well, safe and warm.

Sorry to hear that @PenguinMum take care.
