Housework - hate housework with a passion - and rude people.
Hello everyone. Just need a bit of advice - what does everyone on the LCHF regime take to 'help things along' the digestive tract? I seem to have reached a full stop but don't want to resort to Fybogel....

Coffee worked for me. Others use flax seeds or psyllium. Make sure you're hydrated, too.

I have never found the need - but I do eat a lot of vegetables and make high fibre bread from time to time to keep in the freezer.
Also - on the low carb list people are often panicking about constipation when it is simply that what they are eating has far less residue, so they stop being 'regular' and think that is a bad thing.

I use inulin every morning in my first cup of coffee. You need to start with small amount and build up it dissolves in water too. It may also be the coffee and cream!

I am aways well hydrated. Coffee is not something I do too much being insomniac (and I don't really like decaf) but I might well give flax seeds a go. Thank you for the suggestion. Peace and love x x

You would not believe the amount of cabbage I'm getting through these days and I had considered the possibility of there just not being as much in my gut these days but - and I'm not going to go into detail how, I know this is not the case. Thanks for your advice though. It's good to be part of a community of like minded souls. Have a lovely day x

I like to "go" everyday - I have diverticula disease and have been hospitalised a couple of times with diverticulitis and serious infection so need to keep things moving. The first couple of weeks I stopped moving so took sennacot a couple of times - I know it works for me and it's not too harsh. Since then though I haven't needed it. I did cut down on cream and cheeses and went more for olive oil, butter, avocado, coconut oil and olives so not sure wether this helped. I certainly feel better digestion wise since changing. Now don't feel so sluggish in my tummy and back to going every day

Never heard of inulin so I just looked it up. Might just take your advice on this one.... Peace and love to you xxx

I have rather upped my cheese intake of late - perhaps this could be the reason. I'll eat more avocado (seeing as it's one of my favourite foods). Thank you for the suggestion. Have a beautiful day xxx

I have psyllium husk powder in my low carb ‘porridge’ every morning plus chia pudding sometimes and a dessertspoinful of low carb granola each day which is made from a variety of whole seeds. On the odd occasion I get ‘stuck’ I use two senna tablets.

Animal fats, especially lamb do the trick for me, but then again I do have what I call an "Awkward" Digestive system

Thank you @Rachox. I've not come across psyllium husk powder before and I'm still learning about low carb foods such as porridge and granola. Do you have any recipes you could pass along please? Peace and love to you xx

It seems I might have one of those! I was thinking about cod liver oil (but it never really got past the thought!).

The Keto coconut porridge is here. Not real porridge, not a grain in sight!

The LC chocolate granola is my version of various recipes. I’ll post the recipe when I’m on my iPad (currently on my phone)

Thank you (again). I do like coconut so this porridge seems ideal - I'll be off shopping for psyllium husk tomorrow xx
I absolutely love it. I have it every morning with strawberries and double cream :hungry:

LOW CARB CHOC GRANOLA
Carbs per 50g portion 3.5g approx. (Not including anything added like yoghurt or cream)

Ingredients:
25g coconut oil melted
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tbsp granulated sweetener of choice (I used Xylitol but note this is poisonous to pets)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
200 g unsweetened desiccated/shredded coconut
50 g pumpkin seeds
50 g sunflower seeds
100 g mixed nuts corsely chopped
50 g whole flaxseeds
10 Hotel Chocolate buttons corsely chopped

Instructions:
1. Melt the coconut oil in a glass bowl then stir the sweetener, cinnamon and cocoa powder into it.
2. In a large baking tray, mix all the seeds, nuts, coconut and chocolate pieces together.
3. Pour the chocolate coconut oil over the chocolate, coconut, seed and nut mix then stir well so all the granola is coated with the chocolate coconut oil.
4. Bake at 180C/ 350F/gas mark 6 for 24 minutes, until crispy and brown. The mixture burns VERY easily, so set the timer and turn the mixture every 4 minutes.
5. Serve with Greek yoghurt and berries or with cream or sprinkle over ice cream (Oppo of course )
