What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Good Morening Ladies and Gentlemen. Perhaps I shouldn't segregate separate portions of the population for this section of my morening posting, like the overly politically correct brigade just in case I offend them, but then they don't care about my feelings so stuffem' ( wif garlic then kebab on the BBQ ). I am well into my 3rd childhood and all I'm interest in is my motorbike and of course my skateboad.

A surprising 5.5 or me this morning.

Well folks have you been following the articles on black holes, nope me neither. I'm more interested in hot and cold dark matter.
Have a good day and try to be nice to your neighbour, if not yours perhaps mine.
Alf you crack me up

Good morning all. Woke up to 4.8 today. Yesterday visit to the Cologne art fair was fun -- though it wasn't quite as large as I seem to remember. Had some wine with my husband afterwards -- so pretty much a perfect day.

@jjraak -- Glad you got home safely, not surprised that you still miss Goa though.
@Goacher55 -- Based on what I've read, lack of sleep increases insulin resistance temporarily. If you are on low-carb though, I would think it might not make too much of a difference to your actual blood sugar numbers.
@SaskiaKC -- My overall cholesterol is pretty much the same as when I was diagnosed, however the different components have changed on low carb. HDL is up (about twice what it was before) and trigs are considerably down (about one-fourth to one-third of what it was before).
@gennepher -- For the first half year after diagnosis, my fasting blood sugars were still high, but this changed as time went on. This is called the dawn phenomenon and the thinking is that this is due to the insulin resistance in T2s. The body releases counterregulatory hormones (cortisol, epinephrine, growth hormone, glucagon) to give us energy to start the day. At the same time we release insulin (if we still make it), however, if we are insulin resistant, the insulin isn't as effective as in normal people and blood sugars remain at a higher level.
@Traceymac23 -- Great to see you are home from hospital.
@HarrisonK and @OrsonKartt -- Great fasting levels.
@JohnEGreen -- I am similar to you. If I stumble across a book I enjoy, I end up reading everything by this author.

Have a wonderful day all.

Thank you for your explanation :)
So, hopefully this will get better over time.
Glad you had a good day at the art fair yesterday

Thanks, @gennepher.

Yes, it should definitely improve with time. For most people, the improvement takes a lot less time than for me -- but my HbA1c was also very high at diagnosis.

It's really a good sign that your blood sugars are coming down during the day. Higher fasting levels might not even impact your HbA1c too much, they didn't for me.

Sounds like a perfect break - we are not too far from Fowey, and spent part of our honeymoon there. First time I ever had lobster - caught fresh that morning.
Having 2 daughters and granddaughters already living in Cornwall made it a very easy decision for us to move here. I wouldn’t have done so while my dad was still alive though.
This year to mix it up, we are going to the Scottish Highlands and islands for a holiday. Flying up from Newquay airport which is only a 10 min cab drive away, and quite reasonably priced.
The Scottish islands really appeal to me but so do the Scilly Isles ....if you are near Fowey the second week in June we could meet for coffee.

A very late good evening or an early good morning. I have a query. This past week I have had a shocking week of sleeplessness. Can anyone enlighten me as to how does a lack of sleep and the resulting exhaustion generally affect blood sugar readings? I know it’s a generalisation but I’m just inquisitive. I keep an excel sheet with my big readings and notate external parameters but have never noted hours sleep as a variable. I’ve now added it.
Sleep...or lack of it only affects me if i keep getting up snacking or guzzling tea or milk

Morning all. No fbg to report as I stayed at my daughter’s last night and forgot to check I had enough strips. Just popping in to say hi though.
I also went through a Daphne DuMaurier phase @JohnEGreen and loved them. Agree @karen8967 the old film of Rebecca is great - very haunting
I must look out for that book @SaskiaKC I feel very lucky to be moving down to Cornwall, it is beautiful here. Yesterday I went to Truro shopping. I’m trying not to use my SatNav so I cannlearn my way round, but got in the wrong traffic lane coming home and ended up going the wrong way. Back in London I’d have got stressed and probably ended up somewhere horrible like the Slough Industrial estate, but yesterday I decided to make an adventure of it. I ended up in Perranporth, had a coffee and a walk aling the beach in the sunshine then pottered back home feeling very happy.
@PenguinMum do you still come down to Cornwall on your hols?

Slough......yuk!!

5.3 very happy chappy.

Been so busy I've not had chance to post for a few days!

Off to the circus with my 2 year old granddaughter today. Many happy memories of my times at the circus as a child. This will be her first of many. Cant wait to see her face and hear her laugh.

Hope you all enjoy your weekend folks. Its sunny but cool here on the north west coast.

Hi Folks. Anyone seen that TV ad. for the Daily Mail "special" on Type 2 Diabetes? During the TV ad. there were pictures of a Super-Size Hamburger and French Fries, while the voice-over promised extra control of T2. I think the pull-out sections are all week, starting today

I hate that newspaper but would buy a copy if the "special" pull-out had merit. A certain Debra appears in the on-line pitch, slightly familiar visage.

Anyone read it? Do we already know enough? Reading our collective forum posts may be more reliable.

Edit 16.00 Thank you for helpful comments. Think I'll spend the money on a lottery ticket instead.

@DJC3 - those friendly bombs never did come. @Goacher55 apparently it does - slightly bewildered gent lugged several bags to my door earlier. @Traceymac23 good luck with HbA1c having any connection with your own readings. Just saying hi today. No wish to spoil a day with grandchildren ( may be growing to tolerate granddaughter no 3) and big family party for an 80th by numbers totally unrelated to consistent sub 25 gms carbs. Testing smeshding.
Edit @True Blue Daily Mail is a step (actually many miles) too far even if illustrious members of this forum contribute. Nothing against the contributors from this forum just couldn't do it.

Thank you.
So many different factors in the equation then.

I generally test about 6am or immediately I get up before a drink or food.
And then around 6 pm which is usually a few hours after my last meal. I am in the house those times.
That is my only constant times in testing, unless I do an extra test for whatever reason, learning how a new food, or combination of foods affects me for example.

Thank you all for the welcome home.:)
And glad for those who enjoyed the posts.
( For those who are able to withstand the cultural differences, I'd recommend Goa as a stepping stone into India proper . It truly is breathtaking in its culture, acceptance of life itself, and friendliness of its people's.)

It's the only place we've been were We have both turned and said "**** me..did you see THAT"..And not once but dozens of times.
Truly eye opening experience those first few times, and even now, so many years after we still stand and stare in bewilderment/awe at some of the sights we have seen

Anyway back to earth with a bump...
No cats crying at our door...:bigtears:
No dogs padding up for a pat, snuggles or just plain old begging for food...lol

Yesterday work via cattle truck..sorry I meant tfl n southern rail..ok-ish.
Today more of smile, back on the bike..:D

But the drive don't seem right if I'm not dodging cows, somehow...oh well.

FBG seems stuck at 6.3..(sand in the meter, maybe..:hilarious: )

Hi to those newish..:)
Hugs to those a little down.:nurse:
High five for those chowing down on
armadillo..:***:....,...lol

Have a great day all...I'm stuck at work, but OFF TOMORROW...yippee ki ya..:D:D:D
Just think of the memories you've made, jjraak.:)

I read the sport section of the 'Maley Dale' but the rest is pretty right wing for me

What I used to do was turn my sat nav off then drive in random directions till I was thoroughly lost then turn sat nav back on and let it take me home could turn your day into a true adventure especially with some of those obscure and windy narrow country lanes, Not always for the feint hearted though.

I lived in Padstow for several years when stationed at RAF St. Morgan and being brought up in Plymouth, Cornwall was a stones throw away well almost.

That’s a great way to find your way around, I used to do a similar thing when I worked in central London. I’d spend the first 20 mins of my lunch hour walking in any direction, then the last 40 mins trying to find my way back. I was very often late though as I got lost a lot ( no phones with Google maps then) my boss got a bit cross after a while.
