What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Hi @Jim Lahey.
Glad you didn't mind the tag, and thanks for responding

Been lucky myself so far, re complications,
But your story did stick in my mind early on.

The words, humour and what I thought was such a level headed approach to your own condition, in your posts, gave me comfort and hope, when this was all so new to me.

Can't fault the logic on the ' Herbal' Medicine ..I don't partake, but I can perfectly understand the benefits ..should be on the approved drugs list, for many conditions

So good to see the success you've had.
Long may it continue.

(Great score btw..I had my first 4
(4.9..but hey..it's still a 4 ;):D. )
this month )

Hope your days a good un

If not Hawaii, you are definitely in the Alaska 49 zone -- chillin'. Well done.

Oh yes BG. 8.2 mmo/lt 2 hours after lunch. Still waiting for the sevens and hoping for sixes. My trouble is that on footie days it's beer and pizza, hooway the lads. Think I might need to experiment with good gin and diet tonic, for once a week. Still working on the Premier food snack. Did a dry January and Lent. Maybe that is my future.

@Debandez oh my gosh Benny Hill! Had totally forgotten. Hope all your "!!!!"'s are not sarcastic, and that you get some rest.
@SueJB what a great trip!
@gennepher good idea on the bike lock. I'm glad cat has the sense to stay in! Mine don't, and I always live in fear of them climbing into the plumber's van and being driven home with them! I've just added a few hugs to your basket!
@SaskiaKC my innocence of Cuba/Russia was entirely due to my parents, who didn't want to give their kids something to be terrified of unless something terrifying actually happened. All I remember is Daddy being somewhat tense around the newspaper. Yeah, I remember the 60's too but then I wasn't a big partaker in any amnesiacs Fashion, Beatles, I was on top of Tiger Beat and what was the other one? Who was your favorite? Mine was Ringo! I was bitten by a shrew as an adolescent! There it was in the grass, I leaned down and pointed at it for others, and the tiny thing jumped up and BIT me! Then there was the stray dog that barked at my bike and his open mouth/teeth broke the skin on my leg. Hospital, tetanus shot, police showed up (dog bite report), and the following Monday the Dept of Public Health showed up on my doorstep and said I had to do the rabies series.... 21 shots in the at-the-time non-existent fat ring around my belly button and 3 boosters, one on Thanksgiving day. I had to reschedule the recital I'd been riding to a rehearsal for; my central nervous system turned me into a zombie for over a month. And after we finally played that recital in 1978? I have never given a solo recital since! Put me off for life.
@True Blue you could also, in addition to swapping adult beverage choices, get extra meat and cheese on your pizza, and just eat it off the top, finding yourself "suddenly allergic to wheat flour"? But that was your after meal reading. Probably lower than that before? I am so very lucky, was never a drinker after our shtonkered-dates courtship was over. One glass wine, one beer... and for a good 15 years now I can only drink the neck of the beer bottle, and don't bother with wine. I tend to get the hangover first and happy after. Not really worth it.

Hi.
Got back home a few hours ago.
The Waterboard workmen from yesterday were waiting for me in their van when I got back.

I knew as soon as I saw them I had done the right thing by getting out of the bungalow before they arrived this morning. The trauma of yesterday with them yesterday was still with me. I understand they were only doing a job that was on their worksheets, but my intense feeling against the Waterboard rose within me badly the moment I saw them.

The job is finished they said. Completed. You won’t see us any more. We are sorry for all the confusion. And more they said. It felt like the Waterboard had told them to wait when they had done the job until I came back to apologise to me. In a sense I felt sorry for them having to do this.

I think my face was a bit stern, but it wasn’t at them personally, it was the whole situation of everything that happened, and I just wanted them gone out of my sight.

I couldn’t drive into my driveway because their van was parked across it, so I am waiting for them to move, but one of them kept apologising. I don’t know how many ways you can apologise for a situation, but he managed it. Finally I say something like, so that’s it? You are done? It’s definitely finished? I won’t be seeing you again? You have definitely completed it properly this time?

The one that broke the Guinness book of records for apologising finally said, it was the last crew that didn’t do the job properly. So I said, and you have done the job properly? He said yes. So I said thank you for that. And he drove off his face still apologetic...

And finally I got into my driveway, parked my car, went in and joined the cat who was keeping my bed warms all day. I couldn’t relax because all this affair with the Waterboard had literally pushed me to the edge. Finally I fell asleep for a few hours.

Peeking in here now, I can feel a bit of sanity returning. It is going to take a few days to re centre and re calibrate.

I will now try and read all your posts and reply.

I have Hildegard Voices of Angels on again. A few hours of this chant might help...

Take care

One of the barns I rode at where I used to live held clinics several times a year and one barn cat in particular was known to have gone home with more than one visitor in their horse trailer.

Your parents sound like my parents. Our church rec room was a designated Civil Defense shelter, but all I remember my parents doing was putting two cereal bowls and a can opener on the table in our basement -- eventually I used the two bowls to feed and water stray cats and dogs that showed up from time to time (the dogs usually having followed me home). It wasn't until years later than I figured the bowls and can opener must have been their only "preparations" for nuclear fallout. They never mentioned it to us. What I remember more from those days was watching Alan Shepherd and John Glenn, and of course playing barefoot in the backyard, wading in the creek, making clover chains and catching bees, watching lightning bugs, and playing in the neighborhood park -- no playground, no parents, just the creek and the grass and the trees. And swimming at the community pool.
And, later, the Beatles. George was my favorite from the minute I first saw him, on The Ed Sullivan Show. I just knew.
I don't remember how old I was when the shrew bit me; I was probably about 10-11 when one of the neighbors' dogs bit me but since we knew his owners and he had a rabies tag nothing ever came of it. Except that the next time a dog came at me I went for him and made contact -- toe of shoe to face of dog. Almost a reflex on my part. Didn't stop me from inviting stray dogs home! The stray ones never were aggressive -- just lonely and hungry.

Gate is now locked with a bike combination lock. I found one I could remember the number for.

Workmen finally left. And assure me they will not be coming back.

I can now finally re centre and re calibrate. It will take a few days. The bike lock on the gate means I feel more secure. I am in bed and Voices of Angels is on.

Cat is strangely sensible! Might be age!!! I worry about same things as you do with them. About 20 years ago I caught him getting a supermarket delivery van who was delivering for a neighbour....

A basket of unlimited hugs is always needed!

That is enough to send anybody over the edge. I am soooo sorry, all that work you did contentedly making the area yours again, ruined by bureaucracy. . "You won't have to pay" baloney! Stress levels are less bearable than paying a bill. But dern tootin' you'd better not get a bill. When you're feeling better, you might approach that neighbor who seems to have made an unauthorized call on your behalf. Calm thoughts and prayers coming your way.

He has been the neighbour from hell for a long time. After this episode of his causing, I have absolutely no intention of talking to him. I am not sure I would be able to hold my tongue...he has caused the Waterboard embarrassment on this occasion.

I will build a mental impenetrable wall between me and him. I usually send love to every situation no matter what, but this situation was by far a situation too far.

Thank you for your calm thoughts and prayers. They are gratefully received.

@gennepher re your supplements!!!! I take two anticholinergic meds, which dry me up something fierce. My multi-vit is not heavy on E, although I've been taking a hefty dose of cod liver oil in solidarity w autistic kid (now grown) for nearly 20 years. I'm always assuming my dry mouth is from the inhaler that is known to cause it, and the eyes to old age and ALLERGIES!!!
So oh my gosh to hear you tell of the CoQ10 helping with the Reynaud's!!!! I had it bad all winter (wearing blue exam gloves all day long helps with that lol) and it's still persisting into the warmer weather. My symptoms have been very dependent on my weight, so with the amount I lost eating LC, Reynaud's reappeared with a vengeance. Will try some CoQ10! Thanks so much for mentioning that! Touching ice!!! Snowballs with Bare Hands!!! Can't wait.
@HarrisonK I hope your trip was bearable! Personally I think one can earn one's meltdowns over, say, 40. But having raised a HF but nevertheless autistic kid with definite touches of Asperger's, and another who started on the spectrum and grew up into a shadowy Aspie, and disliking crowds myself, and finding that Mom's dementia symptoms can be ameliorated by giving her the same considerations I gave my autistic toddler, I think I can relate a little! Geriatric gangsta, five stars for laugh out loud!
@HarrisonK and @gennepher the only people who got away with hugging my son until he hit maybe 26, 27, were my mother and his favorite aunt. He has improved to the point where he will tolerate hugs from huggy girls his age, and he's always been very good with hand shaking thank goodness. I doubt he will ever hug me...

A brilliant read.
I am still amazed what the CoQ10 appears to help me with.
For the first time in forever I can take frozen stuff out of freezer without losing total feeling in fingers with the Raynaud's.
Cat is very huggy and is hugging me now. He is the only huggy cat I have had out of all the cats I have had!

Hi @gennepher

interesting read on Q10.
had seen it earlier in other posts as recommended for certain situations.
nice to see you getting the benefit from it.

do wonder, and you after a year of researching, can probably say, did LCHF make any difference ?
as in is it clearly the Q10..or the effects of low carbing..?
only ask as it seems LCHF, does appear to have a far greater impact across many diseases / symptoms then just simply T2D

For someone who has also reversed a lot of neuropathy in his feet, see @Jim Lahey post, from absolute agony so he says, to full recovery.
marvelous story of grit and pure determination.

I did read ( and my wife had some issues with feet, so i bought for her,) that B12 is poorly absorbed unless in a sub lingual application (under the tongue )..she tried and found some help.
then we ran out of ours and looked to replace, holland & barrett raved about a b12 spray so wife uses that to what she says is good effect..
Myself i use a decent B12 complex daily
seems to help, but i cant be certain without lab reports, but we all do travel in hope when trying to improve our health.

One thing that did help me, was the magnesium tablets and spray for my cramps.
take one each end of day and spray IF needed..so far way more comfortable waking up in mornings.

Might look into the Q10 a little more now you've mentioned the good effects.

If you needed a more detailed look at some vitamins like q10. @Winnie53 , has been a great source of informed opinion on the subject and well able to pull up relevant data seemingly at will.
she Might be another to check out for possible good advice.

Now if only there was a tablet to take for all the tech/building suffering your undergoing...mmhh,
a noted brick through an office window is just SO yesterday, yet a n angry E-Mail, just DOESN'T cut the mustard somehow..Lol

Hope all resolves soon or at least you find a way to manage the situations..

My bedtime reading 5.1..so i end the day below where i started it, which is nice.:)

Hi!
Lots of interesting notes for me to make on what you write!
Last year I was attempting a lower carb diet. But I hit against a brick wall with my dietician who I have to see regularly as part of my diabetic package. My dietician recommends a much higher carb way of eating, and when I explained I found by eating less carbs it reduced my blood glucose readings, my dietician wouldn’t have it, insisting that I would damage myself by doing that. He was telling me I was wrong. He was insisting that he had done training in this for his qualifications and I had not.

He frightened me with his dire warnings if I didn’t add much more carbs to my diet. So, obviously because he is the trained one I followed his advice. But my diabetes was now getting out of control and I ended up on more diabetic medication.

So researching again, I veered towards a lower carb way of eating, but I would say I was nowhere near following LCHF way of eating. Again I tried to explain to my dietician. I think I was probably on about 100 carbs a day or more. He thought that was too low and I am getting dire warnings off him again.

But this time I didn’t let him throw me off balance in my way of eating. I was having about 50 to 70 carbs for my main meal at this point. And he told me that was nowhere near enough and I needed to up my carbs much more for that main meal. This was about November 2018.

I ignored his advice, because I knew by this time too many carbs for me wasn’t helping my diabetes. But I wasn’t sure how low to go.

At that time and over the Christmas period I tried to aim for 50 carbs in total for the day. I was having more fat in my diet i.e. I had given up on the standard low fat advice for everything. The reason for this was several fold. I couldn’t eat low fat cheeses because I couldn’t swallow them (I have swallowing problems, diagnosed with poor throat muscles), yet things that were full fat were much easier to swallow. Proper butter helped as well, instead of the low fat spreads and yoghurts the dietician insisted I should eat. There appeared to be more sugar in low fat stuff which upset my stomach and made me feel sick.

So by after Christmas and going into 2019 I would say I was on more high fat, but my carbs were still probably what could be called in the medium amount of carbs. I tried to make the carbs about 50 a day, but they more some days, especially if I ate out with friends.

So in 2019 I tried the CoQ10. There was a difference very quickly. It was easier to prick my fingers for blood, the blood now came out now more easily. The peripheral neuropathy improved. The pains in my toes which I’d had nightly since forever improved, and I didn’t have night after night of agony. And the Raynaud’s improved. I’d had Raynaud’s since a child losing the feelings in my fingers and them going cold white and numb, and being agony. I said I don’t have that painful cold numbness of Raynaud’s since I took the CoQ10, and I don’t. My fingers can still be on the cold side, but that is all.

I can’t remember all I said initially in that post, but I may have mentioned the CoQ10 appears to have helped my migraines which are visual effects. I have had this since I was a child. Because I am profoundly deaf I have had to concentrate hard on lip reading all my life. That intense concentration appears to have been the trigger for the visual migraines. And if I had to do a lot of lip reading in a day I wouldn’t last out the morning, let alone the day before having to go into a darkened room with a severe visual migraine. A very brief time of intense lip reading is the longest I can go without triggering a visual migraine. But since I have been taking the CoQ10 I have not had a visual migraine attack. It means now I can do these brief sessions of intense lip reading without worrying I am suddenly going to get a debilitating visual migraine attack where I cannot see to lipread. I lose my concentration trying to process and assimilate lip reading information if I have to go on too long, and in new situations.

Even though I have a cochlear implant I am still dependent on lip reading and I have had that implant for a few years now.

So the CoQ10 in my mind has helped me in many problems. And it has happened pretty rapidly. I am assuming it is at least in part to do with blood flow.

I hope this reply isn’t too long but I was trying to give a full picture as I could to what you were asking.

I’ve made notes of the other things you said, and various other people and will research and look them up for information.

Thanks. That Waterboard stuff took me almost beyond my level of endurance. I am hoping it is completed now. Also the gate is now locked...

Morning All. 5.3 at 06.30 so good start even if earlier than usual.
@gennepher I really hope you have a better day than yesterday. I just dont know how people can be so unkind and just hope they leave it neat as they found it.
.

These workmen did actually leave things as they found them, and did clear up well. I have to given them credit for that.
This should be it now. And the gate is now locked with a new lock...
I still have to recover, recuperate and re calibrate...
A few days will help...
Thank you
>^..^<

Outrageous gennepher...I wouldn't bother calling them or texting them it's time to put it in writing...write to the CEO of your water board/compensate you for the distress...they need to repair the damage to the drains obviously...repair & make good any damage to your property plants etc...it really should be in writing then we can all be clear about who said what to whom and you should be able to get some reassurance nothing like this will happen again...it may be too early for clichés but reading your post makes my blood boil.
Thank you for your words.
I was pushed beyond endurance over this yesterday.
I do need to put something in writing over this mess.
My gate is locked now, so no one should be able to enter my private property without my say so....,

Its not letting up here Krystyna but I'll have to take him out...as much for my sake as his I've been an ill disciplined diabetic of late so I need to restart my activity...going in about 30 minutes...towels & treats positioned by the door for our return.
Did you get very wet this morning? I would never had gone out for a walk this morning if I didn't have the dogs. They do help us to be more active. I have been a bit ill disciplined also and have been using industrial amounts of cream in my coffee and also having too many coffees lately. Have decided to limit the coffee and cream and drink more redbush and herbal teas.

I would be interested in hearing how LCHF diets affect people's cholesterol numbers. If anyone wants to post ...

They went up. I wasn't a butter or cheese or cream eater before. There are mentions in other threads about this but hanged if I know where. Maybe do a search?

Yes @rhubarb73 wonder if he ran think he was preparing for the marathon. They all get my unconditional respect..wow..and they run in all sorts of heavy costumes too? Report in when you can @rhubarb73.
Hello, I'm still about but have been dormant for a while. A lot going on in my life right now - some good, some challenging but all very time consuming. Sorry all..I even missed the whole Mod election - thanks to whoever nominated me but I would have said no.
Liking the new thread and I will be back to more normal levels of activity soon.
