What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

Good morning. Thanks for the mention and kind words. Yeah I went from unbelievable, stabbing, searing, throbbing, burning pain to feeling like I now walk on air. For me the fix was a paleo-style ketogenic diet. Essentially paleo but with dairy. No sugar no grains - zero tolerance policy. I took no pharmaceuticals or supplements. I did however use a certain green, natural, herbal painkiller to help me sleep at night. I was simultaneously dealing with laser treatment and anti-VEGF injections for retinopathy and macular oedema. All-in-all it was quite tedious :hilarious:

Coincidental that I should be tagged into this thread this morning, since I just scored my lowest ever fasting glucose of 4.1mmol/L :nurse:

Edited to add: Thinking retrospectively, my body was sufficiently broken on diagnosis that I wonder if the miraculous turnaround is really to my own credit, or if I’m perhaps just a fortune hyper-responder to the Real Food diet :D

Hi @Jim Lahey.
Glad you didn't mind the tag, and thanks for responding

Been lucky myself so far, re complications,
But your story did stick in my mind early on.

The words, humour and what I thought was such a level headed approach to your own condition, in your posts, gave me comfort and hope, when this was all so new to me.

Can't fault the logic on the ' Herbal' Medicine ..I don't partake, but I can perfectly understand the benefits ..should be on the approved drugs list, for many conditions

So good to see the success you've had.
Long may it continue.

(Great score btw..I had my first 4
(4.9..but hey..it's still a 4 ;):D. )
this month )

Hope your days a good un

I totally agree, it very nearly put me in hospital as it was tracking into my eye (Doctor was panicking, but I was too ill to care) so to be still be out and about and competing in the British Powerlifting Championships on Friday I'm over the moon! Mind I don't know how the dogs are going to cope with me being away for a couple of days (I've never been away from these ones) but I expect the cold shoulder for a bit, then full on Bully snogs!!

That sounds nasty, @johnpol
Good to see you back on the thread, and even better that your competing this Friday
Best wishes for the day

Liking the dog 'attutude' lol

Our cat was the same ..total blank for a day or two, then back to demanding strokes n loves...bless.

Have a good un.

then full on Bully snogs!!
Ooh full on bully snogs I do my best to avoid them!...cellulitis is a nasty business...I had two full weeks of intravenous antibiotics & a follow up with oral antibiotics for another month...you must be made of stern stuff john managing to compete in the power lifting & with the cellulitis.

Scores on the doors this morning a sunnier outlook then the weather of 5.3.

A Good night's sleep last night, maybe helped .. So happy with that

Day off, and it's going to rain all day here in the not so sunny capital .. Ho hum

Lots to do..I suppose indoors :***:
Just rather have been out and about
Might just pop on the gym shoes and head there for an hour.. to save wasting a day .Mmhh..

Have a good day all.
Stay dry if at all possible.

Otherwise it's a "Gene Kelly" challenge moments.. with videos, please :D

my bedtime and wake up numbers are staying stubbornly at 6,8. My doc says it’s not bad and asks me not to stress about it... but i am getting impatient

Pop up your regular daily meals @Shas3
bound be something you can perhaps swap out for a better choice

@HarrisonK enjoy your ramble and lunch with your friend...this weather is great for our new grass seed!
@johnpol welcome back and sorry you have been so poorly but good you’re on the mend.
@jjraak great video, thanks.
I’m off to hairdressers in a min..thats why the heavens have opened! Sorry!

It is a nasty thing to have, my nose and cheeks swelled up and I had two black eyes the pain in my face was horrible. I'm glad you got over yours I genuinely wouldn't wish it on anyone, apparently the face is one of the worst places to get it (so the Doctor kept saying anyway) its the second time I've had it in two years and this one was by far the worst, I'm really looking forward to Friday and will enjoy all of it even though with all this ill business I won't be at my best I will enjoy it. And my two give the best Bully snogs ever! They are brilliant.

Morning all sou'westers all round by the sounds of it. 5.2 for me on one of my let's see what is going on mornings. Added to other data a safe but underwhelming little B and B stop whilst I tinker with the workings of this vintage machine in which my mind is imprisoned. Hope all those going to the PHC conference this weekend find it useful - eye watering price IMHO - @DJC3 hope the ankle heals well and speedily (if there is anything practical from that conference I would be interested); @johnpol amazing determination battling the cellulitis and still competing.
6th anniversary of my mum and dad dying today. Quite interesting being able to wake in the same bedroom as mum did that day and walk to the room dad died in. Feel quite privileged to be able to do that and very aware just how fast lives can change. Abrupt change that day but like dx wouldn't have wanted that to be the trigger but outcomes have been beneficial for others. Enjoy your day folks.

Good morning everyone from a miserably wet day in the dark and dangerous north.
Bin day today - the turn of the recycling bin - so soaked through already coaxing “blue” out of it’s gender neutral cozy slot, wrestling it out to it’s sentry post and then ensuring correct lineup with other “blues” using the theodolite and pole. Why they all insiste upon being called blue is a mystery.

Speaking of which, the munificene that is the wonder wheel of mystery and marvel could only croak out a 6.2 this morning. I think that I know why.
A couple of days ago, right in the middle of the supermarket, very embarrassing, my chimp spied something called “Halo Top” as we took a swift short cut down the freezer isle towards a vacant till, ladened with the days healthy options of Heck sausages, eggs, cheese and other choice sundries. Needless to say, to shut the **** thing up, I grabbed one knowing full well that chimp was totally wrong.
Last night, chimp excitedly declared that said Halo Top was pining deep in the freezer and nagged me for nearly a nano-second until I gave in and, under the influence of a movie, scoffed the lot.
Chimp is now sulking, back in its box.

we did brave the rain and took the doggies out
Its not letting up here Krystyna but I'll have to take him out...as much for my sake as his I've been an ill disciplined diabetic of late so I need to restart my activity...going in about 30 minutes...towels & treats positioned by the door for our return.

My morning observations ..Cellulitis sounds nasty... gene jelly cheers the day .... pooches all over the country are not happy wet walks. I’ve just had my car valeted so it looks like we are not heading to Clumber after all .

My lucky numbers today 7.2 ... it has really messed up my averages

Hawaii 6.0 today (never was good at remembering lyrics!)

Well my life at the moment is like a scene from benny hill (for anyone who remembers the legendary genius). Relatives asked if they could come for an over night stay. My auntie. 2nd mum. Last one standing of 13 siblings. Born and bred in Dublin. Flew Monday to stay with her daughter in Scotland. Together with her best friend they are descending onnme today and staying over night. Love it when I have guests. It makes me go the extra mile with cleaning. Whole house, top to bottom in 5 hours (with hubby). Chinese laundry re bedding. Food shop required. Massive as I was down to barely anything. Paperwork to be gone through, dealt with and filed. Then the icing on the cake. My daughter having a melt down. Cant find Door keys/car keys on same fob (I dont think that's a good idea but less chance of her losing!). Hubby went to help track. No joy but came back with 2 year old granddaughter for an emergency sleep over!!! Late to bed. Early to rise at 6am!!! Only just done bs now so could be why higher. Plus I was up til 1am, felt peckish, had slice of ham!

Just off to my GP surgery. Doing something with another pt who is helping other pts. I will be falling asleep in the chair. Not a chance! I've still got a very lively granddaughter!!! Wouldnt change it for the world.

Morning everyone, hope you're all well and not totally soaked. Madam was delightful this morning and I was delighted with 4.7. The lovely number wasn't a surprise as I had to bolus at midnight to counteract the chocolate I munched on while reading some poems by Szymborska. Recently back from the small tour of driving through Spain into Portugal back into Spain and then home via France. We've bought a second hand left hand drive Renault to make the European forays easier and it really was a blast. The first night in Santander was fantastic only marred by realising I hadn't packed enough needles for the time away. Luckily I speak Spanish sufficiently well and was able to explain my problem to a pharmacist at our second stop, Luarca. She didn't have 4mm and they don't use these in Spain but she ordered some 6mm to be collected the next day. People are lovely and she was so helpful. Fish in Luarca was magnificent. Now I know this thread is "full on chat" but if I tell you all the ins and outs I'd be part way through my memoires. Fell over in Viseu on the wet cobbles and was helped by a whole gang of Portuguese wanting to get me an ambulance. It didn't happen and the next day we were off, me with bruised ribs. It was a magical journey. Lake Balaton is our next destination but the route has yet to be planned.

Hug for the fall, bruised ribs and need to bolus at midnight. Fantastic to hear from you again - I was wondering what had become of you. The road trip sounds delightful, sans fall, restorative and generally spiffing.

9.1 at 6 am this morning.

I was amazed it was this low after yesterdays traumatic events. And I was 15.9 at 7 pm last night.

I was going out anyway today, but I couldn’t face those workmen and that Waterboard debacle with the drains. I am still very upset they dug up perfectly good drains that were rebuilt last week by the Waterboard. And messed up my new plants and plant pots etc. And entered my property through the gates without even asking me or ringing the doorbell (it flashes a blue light for me), because they said I wouldn’t hear the doorbell. All because a customer rang (my next door neighbour) saying his drains were blocked since the works last week on my property (it is a shared drain). But there was no blockage at all on the drains on my property yesterday that they dug up.

I am half wondering if my neighbour did that as a practical joke. He doesn’t like me.

And that workman that told me to go in and make a nice cuppa tea and calm down...how I didn’t clock him one I do not know...for being so condescending...

I am in Wetherspoons now this Wednesday morning. Been here since 8 am so I do not have to see those workmen today. I am still furious. Had eggs Benedict and ham and got unlimited coffee until it is time to leave...so that should be okay even as an extra meal for my diabetes...will have to persuade my friend not to have late breakfast but go somewhere else for a lunch meal.

So I am in Wetherspoons among these old men with those lost vacant looks in their eyes, drinking those long slow pints....depressing. But I have the phone streaming Hildegard Bingen plainchant so I cannot hear the discordant intrusive noise in this place. I have dark wraparound glasses on because of the flashing fruit machines which make me feel sick and my senses assaulted.

Everyone in here, customers and staff look so fed up and depressed, and I can see a team of workers who are meeting up and i think obviously going on to Asda to do their daily shift. They look like their life is hell on earth. What a way to start a day....

I couldn’t mentally face those work men, nor the work this morning before i came out. They said they would be there at 8 am, so I escaped. Cat is under the covers of my bed. Cat knows my routine when I am going to leave him for a few hours. So he takes to my bed for the day even though he can use the cat flap.

I am now going to a shop where i can get a chain and lock or a bicycle lock and that gate will be firmly locked after today. Anyone who needs to enter will have to ask for permission. I still cannot get over how a workforce entered my property without permission or telling me they needed to do works. And proceeded to use a pneumatic drill on the concrete right besides my bedroom wall, shocking me out of bed with the vibrations...I initially thought we were having a terrible earthquake, we do have earth tremors here because of mining work many years ago. Momentarily I had visions of a huge crater opening up and swallowing me and cat and my bedroom...

I left a note for the workmen to leave a note through the door when the works were finished.

I can see some people have replied to some of my replies, and I will get back to you all tonight when i get home.

Thank you for your kind words.

There are hugs in the ‘basket of unlimited hugs’ for anyone one needs them today. So take one if life is throwing hard lemons at you. I have just taken 3 hugs to tide me over for a bit...

Take care
>^..^<

good morning all :)

4.5 today

Raining here this morning which is a bit of a blow, I was going to renew my assault on the bushes outside mum's gate ;) Never mind I have loads to do inside, a pair of trousers to shorten and a sweater to sew up.

Mr. gee has to go to the dentist for a check up but not until 16.40pm so we'll probably take soup over to mum's and have lunch with her. I don't have to go back to the doctor for a month and hopefully just for a quick check so that went well :)

@ianpspurs glad your eyes are as farseeing as usual ;)

an extra hug to @gennepher

Hope your day treats you kindly :)
