What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

I wonder if it is time for cash registers at health centres.
No absolutely not True Blue...no shows can be a problem in our NHS but we need to ascertain the reason...some are unavoidable & not necessarily the patients fault...when I first became ill I had intensive intravenous antibiotics for two weeks at our local hospital and so many clinic appointments my head was spinning...when I was home & had recovered a little I realised I had been sent a date for a clinic appointment...I had no idea & did not attend...later when I checked my patient record I was marked as not attending...I made my GP amend that...it would be better if we had patients confirm they would be attending...if not the appointment is offered to others

It’s past 11:15 am here and it is a holiday... Ascension day. Was lazy to post. Anyway this morning i wake up and do my usual finger prick and let the blood drop onto the strip and lazily open my eyes and ... oh my god - 10.0!!!! Shocked. And i was wondering about the gravity of the situation... Then, just as Sir Newton discovered gravity thanks to an apple, it hit me that last night i had a quarter of a small apple... but really a tiny piece... and it hit me again that I hadn’t washed my hands! So... 2 minutes later wit new strip, new lancet and clean hands it was a relief to see 6.0. I would have much preferred a number in the 5s but after the shock of 10.0... 6.0 looked like a fantastic number Good day everyone
I am loving the new photo Shas... Yes it really IS so important to wash your hands.
When I saw my meter print out last week at the hospital everything was in the green zone, apart from one reading in the red.
17.4 :***: :bookworm:OMG! That was the day I made a chilli and forgot to wash my hands before testing ...2 mins later it was 4.3. :) Phew!

Morning...absolutely shattered today...worked so hard in the house I wore myself out...I was absolutely starving last night so battered cod it was...hence the 6.7 this morning...more hard work today upstairs...oh the joys of housework & decluttering...does anyone actually enjoy it?

From the hospitals I attend, I have a text reminding me of my appointment a few days before, and in that text it give me an option to press to reschedule the appointment, and I get a new appointment letter in the post.

And one hospital send me an additional text the day before to remind me of the appointment, and at that late stage I am still given the option to reschedule that appointment.

I do that with my dentist and optician as well.

Is there that option at your hospitals?

I did have to ask initially and push hard for that facility. I did have a patient’s advocate. It is some years ago I did this. But that facility is available for everyone/all patients now, both hearing and non-hearing peoples.

Would it help to enquire?

Hello @Bubbsie . You are right. I mean, what would we do about people who miss appointments because...well...they were ill? But that does put pressure on senior staff to chase laggards.

So your count goes 1 2 3 4 slight hold 4 3 2 1
Then simply repeat, breathing in for 4, hold, and out for 4. Maintaining the count in your mind.

That is it! You are meditating…
Po - thank you so much for typing out this long post. You have set it out so clearly. I shall copy your notes and print them off. They will be absolutely invaluable.

Managed to stay mostly relaxed yesterday and was 5.5 this morning. So it looks like staying tranquil and not triggering the cortisol is really important for me.

Edited to change OK to Po - it's that autocorrect again.

Wow, I have just fallen in love ...

I was Google-mapping Dorset while reading my favorite D*** Francis novel, 10-lb. Penalty and I discovered Blandford Forum. Wow. What a lovely place. Wish I could retire there. Haha they asterisked-out his name again!

I love Mr Francis’ books too. I think I’ve read them all but always have a rummage in charity shops and car boot sales in case I find a new one. Quite often I’ll buy one and be halfway through it before I realise Ive read it before, It never matters though, all his books are like a comfy pair of slippers, so easy to slip into.

A windy and slightly damp start here but temperatures set to rise for the next few days. Bg was 5.0 @ 6.00 am so I am grateful for that. Some other markers seem to have felt the need to realign themselves otherwise than I would want just to keep me interested. I ate a very definitely ultra-processed (but very LC) item of food yesterday which according to the latest research may well have set my personal Doomsday Clock too close to midnight. I won't be following the big debate over why cheese is not ultra-processed when salami is as there are lawns to cut and cricket to watch. Maybe Bob Mueller can exonerate salami.
@Shas3 enjoy Ascension day and @True Blue enjoy TMS - the cyber bantz on BBC sport website can be good as well.

No! I hate it I keeptelling myself I should get a sense of satisfaction from it at the end, and I do, but it’s more relief that it’s done. I wish I enjoyed it, its such a good workout.

I generally do but once in a while i am lazy and didn’t realize the fluctuation can be that big. Lesson learnt.... good day Po. Oh about the pic - thanks... am a hobby potter.. this was from a few years ago when i was just beginning to learn... i make simple pieces for gifting or selling to friends and raise funds for charities... you can follow me on instagram if interested . Thanks

5.7 for me this morning before I forget to post. Thought it’d be higher after an unrestful night. Both granddaughters staying over little one’s face with the puncture holes from the dog bite makes me sad to look at. The 8 yo has trouble sleeping as she gets terrible nightmares, consequently she’s now afraid to go to sleep. We were all cuddled in together but its squshed and not particularly restful. I’m constantly expecting her to wake up terrified.

I get this from my GP but not hospitals. It’s a good idea, and so is @Bubbsie ‘s about asking patients to confirm before booking the appointment properly - such a simple idea.
On the other side of the coin sometimes it’s not the patien’t fault. I had a letter from the hospital before my nephrectomy inviting me to an outpatients appointment wher they would duscuss the procedure with me and I’d have annopportunity to ask questions. Unfortunately the letter arrived the day after the appointment. I was quite upset as I was very nervous about it - having spent most of that year in and out of hospital I was dreading yet more surgery and would have really appreciated the chance to discuss it, I had loads of questions. Luckily they didn’t cancel the surgery but presumably thought I wasn’t interested.

5.9 this morning so obviously I have still a stock of high 5's to use up! Bin day at my parents today just rushed down to their house to put the bin out I forgot to go last night even after being reminded by phone every day, they are away on holiday.
Off to work now and then to get their shopping ready for their return later today!

Lived on the military base there for two years. The Badger Beer is awful.
