What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

It’s an unusual name I guess. In Norman times illegitimacy was not regarded with the contempt as it may be now - I do wonder if tha may be due to prudish Victorians or crazy religions - someone will know. Lots of folk, including the Duke of Normandy used the word Bas**rd keenly. Then there is the Fitz lot.
There is a place of that name in Cornwall - I have a file in the garage somewhere carrying the same name (and probably a hammer).

There is or was a guy in Plymouth called Robin Bas**rd he was an antiques dealer. I think his parents had a sense of humour.

Good morning everyone from balmy Lands Are Grotty. A bit of sea mist this morning but set to be another scorchio.
The thing about having nine bedrooms is that you are never quite sure where people are. Luckily they are split between two floors with two wings on each floor - Mrs Miggins and I have bagged an isolated room on the upper level to reduce early morning squarking.

I am currently sat in the kitchen slurping tea. Little Miss Pamplemousse (aged 4) is wandering about with a long handled dustpan and broom doing some “tidying up” and delivering “mail”; the discarded envelopes from yesterdays birthday cards.

The two year old twins, Chaos and Mayhem, are trailing behind picking up the “mail” and putting it back in the mail bag. All three of them are wearing sun glasses, Chaos has hers on upside down because she is a fashionista. Mayhem has her doll with her, bereft of clothing because it’s hot - so why is it wrapped in a baby blanket?

Anyhow, my wheel of zeitgeist and schadenfreude spat out a begrudging 4.6 this morning, all down down to four carefully constructed events:
1. Go into town at 10am and have a full English sans carbs.
2. 50 lengths of the pool after the water has been sufficiently stirred by the goings on of 6 children, aided by a couple of adults, an inflatable crocodile, an inflatable duck, two rubber rings and something still quite unknown yet still a necessary part of the carefully constructed plan.
3. A late afternoon escape by Mrs Miggins and I down to the beach where we discovered a bar with a great view and just had to have a glass of chilled red wine and some olives. Walk there and back with a meander, about 4 miles.
4. Fish and tapas bar - had garlic prawns followed by a sort of hot plateau de fruits de mer and a nice bottle of Rioja Crianza.
5. (I know - who would have thought) - walk back from bar - kids in bed - a glass of scotch and a blather.

I shall be recommending this method to all. Far better than worrying about things you have no control over.
Have a great Monday.
Absolutely great post, I feel like I'm there.

5.9 this morning. It’s a 5 so I’m happy
@Shas3 congrats on a great fbg.
Packing this morning for our flight to Sctotland later this afternoon. We have a lovely week planned: travelling on the West Highland line up to Oban tomorrow then over to the Isle of Mull. Not expecting the sun but some great seafood and scenery and hopefully a glimpse of Sea Eagles would make my week.

good afternoon all :)

was 4.7 this morning

As expected it was a grey and soggy day all day and it's still raining here, it wasn't a very quiet day in the charity shop so the time passed quite quickly ;)

@gennepher hope you get some good, restorative rest.

@Bubbsie I agree knitting is quite therapeutic your 'urban' knitting sounds interesting, I haven't done much knitting like that, the only remotely similar thing I've made so far is the crochet owl I made a couple of weeks ago for a friend who was given the kit as a gift.

The half 'pi' shawl is about dry now so it's time to take it off the mat, the yoga mat could have done with being a bit wider but I think it will be ok.

Hope your day is treating you gently everyone :)

Thank you very much. I did sleep better last night.

Those things are absolutely stunning.
I love the crochet owl, it is beautiful.
The shawl is amazing. I couldn't understand why you mentioned the yoga mat in an earlier post ....

Sounds like a superb trip, hope the Sea Eagles cooperate.

Just looked at the weather forecast for the week up there - rain every day lol! Good excuse maybe to spend more time in the hotel bars sampling the whisky, Mr C enjoys a wee dram so he’ll be happy whatever the weather.

Good morning and Bon Bon Jaroo from Lands Are Grotty where it is still dark o’clock but somehow I am up and about.

My wheel of wonderment and pizzazz has condescended to award me with a 4.7 this morning - could it be that it is because it’s our last day here in lava land and we have managed to survive it all.

There is, in a cupboard under the sink, a green can of something called Formula Plus. I have no idea what is in it but there are red diamonds on the back with pictures of flames and dead things, including trees and fish. Could it be a handy can of Armageddon or perhaps its for inflating balloons?

I treated a massive cockroach to a squirt this morning - it was not pleased - charged around the bathroom like a demented circus clown and then, after a few false starts, dropped dead. Very silent movie scene but this time in colour. So, not for inflating balloons then? Best put it back where I found it before a grown up gives me a lecture about the dangers of touching stuff residing under sinks.

Talking of treats, Mrs Miggins took all the children down to the shore yesterday morning to sit on the red hot lava dust with buckets, spades and nets, pretending to be having fun. Lots of rock pools to explore; two eldest grandchildren in charge of the two youngest, or was it the other way around? Little Miss Pamplemousse went winkling, bringing us all back a real treat in her net.

I have still to finish my holiday book - The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. 40 pages to go but I still have today and the flight back to Edinburgh.

Have a great weekend, I suspect several hours of mine will be spent sitting in a plane, sitting in a car, having a kip.

@shas congratulations on a PB. @HarrisonK splendid fbg and bush cutting probably best done before the real heat. @DJC3 have a great time in Scotland with or without Eagles. Fbg was reputed to be 5.7 this a.m. - if that is what 14 gms carb and 1k cals give I ain't trying to lower it by diet. Very hot day forecast here not sure about The Peaks where no 1 son is doing a 20 mile walk for charity or Madrid where some kind of football match is taking place. Before that I am off to find a large lump of pork, cut some lawns, watch some cricket and rugby and have my teeth and beard fully examined by 10 month old granddaughter. Audere est Facere
ETA: When I typed this @dunelm you hadn't filed today's epistle - great fbg and good reading as ever. @Freema hugs for the aches and higher fbg but like for fitness and family meal

Good morning a disapointing 6.9 this morning , all my body aches from fitness yesterday , but the french fries from the restaurant yesterday with mum and daughter counteracted all me great efforts of lowering my blood glucose or is it maybe adrenaline doing it ?

well, I am not sure what has happened, but Dawn woke me up as usual, but no promise of a nice day...and my fbg is 9.1....

That is low for me for a Dawn reading...it is usually in the doubles.

But the thing is this, I've not been well, and the leaflet I have about my diabetic medicines and other medicines say I mustn't take them for a couple of days or so because of damaging the liver etc and to keep fluids up. Then to start taking them again.

But when I read the leaflet again, I realised there was more meds I was on than I thought that I should not be taking while I am not well, including my blood pressure tablets. So 5 medicines in all. And that scared me stopping them because so many. But I stopped them as advised in the leaflet.

Generally over the past couple of days (since stopping the meds, including diabetic ones), my bg readings, taken during the day, have been going down the tiniest increments, overall. Then yesterday still more tiny increments over the day. I began eating a bit yesterday. More or less just the one small meal about midday...boiled eggs, bacon and coleslaw. Tummy was a little upset (might have been the coleslaw), but I had not eaten the previous day.

But my readings went up and down by no more than 1 during the day, or stayed the same. I don't think I have had that kind of evenness before in bg readings.

I am going to check today, (not taken those same meds this morning), and see how the reading levels maintain themselves.

And just one midday meal, and chocolate of course! It is no hardship one meal, suits me, less preparing and washing up...

Also been checking blood pressure, it is normal, so, I might stop that completely as well as the diabetic meds which is what I am thinking. The blood pressure went up because of a situation that went on for years. It's now 15 years from that (it still has the ability to panic me). The nurse insists to continue taking it, but she is very much pile on the meds as a preventative measure. But the body can only take so many drugs at the end of the day (or can't).

That is my thinking this morning. I can only try.

Still got to beat this cough. But it quietened last night, it's just when I get out of bed and move...

All is on the mend though!

Have a brilliant weekend....the sky is grey, not a leaf is stirring....everything is still, almost in suspended animation...not a bird is flying...it is 7 am! The cat appears asleep and is swinging on my swing. I have never understood how cats can swing a heavy wooden swing. According to my wall thermometer the temperature is already 15.7 C outside....and humidity is 78%...a warm/hot day later?

Take care x

Happy Saturday finger pricking, screen watching, BG controlling citizens of the world!

Well Yesterday I consumed a total of 12g of carbs. I went out for an hour’s ride on my mountain bike. Phew! (That was between 17:00 & 18:00 Meter went UP! 1.1) I did not except that.

I had these numbers throughout the day…

06:30 - 6.6

14:30 - 5.8

16:30 - 5.6

18:00 - 5.7

22:30 - 5.1

This morning just look at what that ungrateful meter woke me up to 6.8.

Yes, that’s correct 6.8

Right that’s it!

You can stay in your pouch all day today, while I toil away outside with my chain saw cutting up logs to keep you warm next winter in a sweltering heatwave that’s settling in over Norfolk. Whilst you do nothing!

Ha! that will teach you.

Po

(I’ve not had my coffee yet that will wake my Beta cells up.... I might reconsider)

I think Mr Liver went in to overdrive last night because I did not have enough to eat yesterday.

Pleased for you that all is on the mend and interesting to read that by not taking some of your meds and not eating that your blood sugar readings are lower and that your blood pressure is normalised. What could that lead to?

I think Mr Liver went in to overdrive last night because I did not have enough to eat yesterday.

Nice set of readings - exercise invariably increases my blood sugars - I think that my body is just doing what it is meant to do - dump fuel.
Your liver probably woke up before you did - livers are very comedic.
Have a great day if you can.

Careful with that chainsaw Po - a very Norfolky man I played cricket with had a serious encounter with one which made a mess of his arm but surgeons saved it and he returned to play the next season. I tend to hand saw and bludgeon with an axe but both the cutting of logs and burning in winter are very therapeutic. Highlight of my year is carefully stacking a 2-3 ton load - so simple yet so much pleasure. Cutting does seem to really drop bg for me so testing may provide a pleasant surprise.
