Thanks for the good wishes for eye injection tomo. @DJC3 I wasnt aware of being tense about tomo but maybe that combined with son going away may have a bearing. As always with Diabetes who knows!

Have you booked you weekend visit to Dublin in Aug yet?

I don't know about cats being wary of rubber gloves, but they frighten me. Just thinking about it makes me squeeze my cheeks together.

The worst thing of all is tomorrow I will be in hospital for serious liver checks seeing the top man from my transplant hospital.
Good luck with your check up tomorrow.

I suppose to get back to the topic - my blood sugars at present are 5.2
As for the cats, I may have to call on the A Team.
What would really be handy is for a small group of very noisy and persistent people, say 3% of the population, to shout and scream about the rights of the gardener.. blah, blah, waffle, waffle in order to make current legislation more symmetrical. Oh, and about those flying pigs.....

So ... you want 3% of us to come over and shout and scream at the cats in your garden?

What might also work is for you to order all those items on your list and then get us over there filming a move with a plot based on those props. :D

I wish more than 3% of us could meet up in Bristol and hang out in between our various interviews at the university ...

I am completely knackered...

I had an appointment at the eye hospital today. Lots of travelling. Took all day. Clinic was very behind. The morning clinic had over run badly. I was afternoon clinic. But they promised they would see everyone no matter how badly it over ran into the evening...

It was far too hot in the eye hospital. Airless. Nurses and staff were trying to find fans, but they couldn’t. Some people got upset because of the waiting and heat. They didn’t make a fuss or anything, but some looked like they were going to peg out in the heat. And partners or friends were getting water and stuff....

I had to take extra inhalers because my breathing was hard to do in that airlessness. A guy in a wheelchair next to me kept saying he had been on dialysis since 5 this morning (I think he said), and he didn’t feel very well in this heat. He was on his own. I got a nurse to look at him. She was going to try and get him through it quicker, but there were so many really sick looking people there today. It was upsetting to me to see so many really sick people there in the eye clinic. It has never been like this before.

There were people in wheelchairs with leg amputations, foot amputations, toe amputations. This is a diabetic eye clinic as well. So I am assuming they were diabetics. The guy with all his toes amputated was chomping through packets of crisps and eating sandwiches bought in the hospital and drinking a diet drink. He wasn’t very communicative and looked a bit befuddled and mithered the nurses a bit, but they kept telling him he had to wait like everyone else. There was an elderly husband (I assume) tending to his sick wife. She was very frail. They looked like they had made their own way to the hospital. He was cradling her head. She wanted to leave.

I have been in that eye hospital on hot days before, but today was the worst. The nurses and staff were struggling badly themselves.

Anyway, the doctor came out to get me. Checked my eyes over. Did tests etc. My eyes are good. He is pleased with them. The laser procedure has worked well. Pressure in the eyes is normal. The surface of my eyes are dry and are rough and damaged a bit, despite me using plenty of eyedrops etc. So, he has given me a different eyedrop which is like putting Vaseline into my eyes. Not pleasant but has to be done.

So the laser procedure went well, and I see them again in a year’ time.

When I came out of the hospital there were quite a few patients in wheelchairs outside smoking. They are not allowed to smoke but they do. So I have to go through a fug of smoke which hurts my chest as I leave the hospital. They were all amputees. Either a foot, or below the knee, or above the knee. Were they all diabetics? I have never ever seen this many amputees at any one moment of time. It was scary.

I was totally exhausted when I got home. I just made a ginger and lemon tea and got into bed with a caterwauling cat because I had left him all day on his own...

So here are pics of a purring cat very glad to see me...

Out right bullying, @gennepher .

Can't see them doing that with our very own Rock (@dunelm ) or Arnie (@johnpol )
Can you..?

Report I say.

That's how the Weinstein's get away with so much, it's just a lone voice, until others come forwards.

May not help you, but a quiet word now about being professional, may save others the trauma.

Good luck either way..

I usually end up being the lone voice, other people are scared to come forwards.
I need a patient's advocate for this one, because there was a bit more than I revealed on here.
I have used a patient's advocate some years before for another complaint...

My goodness Gennepher what a horrible experience with the dietician. For someone shouting g about being the ‘professional’ he certainly wasn’t acting like one. I think you have just cause for complaint there, it’s completely unacceptable if he can’t have an informed discussion. Surely it’s his job to work WITH you?
I do hope your eye app goes better, sounds like a long and exhausting day either way, I look forward to reading your later instalment.
Great fbg by the way - a very definite downward trend. Well done.

I was allowed no input at all.

It was a horrible hot day in the hospital, but it was a good eye appointment for me. It went well. I have written a longer version.
Thank you.

Not much of a professional then, that dietician. I would be mindful of making a professional complaint. Sad that, as a professional, he is not keeping up with latest research that suggests that a mighty dollop of mashed potato may be quite damaging.

Can you find a dietician that will be a bit more professional and helpful?

I will go down that road.. I need a patient's advocate first...

I did my best to show him latest research, but he didn't want to know. I went off track a few times on my low carb diet because of him.

He is the only one for this area as far as I know. But I am done with dieticians now.i never want to see another one again.

What absolutely dreadful behaviour and so unprofessional. Not surprising that it has preyed on your mind ever since.

Hope your appointment with the eye doctor goes well today and that he/she behaves in a much more professional manner.
Thank you @Krystyna23040
The eye doctor appointment itself went well.
It was very professional.
The laser procedure was a success.

@gennepher that sounds like a very difficult and exhausting day. I am so glad your report was so good. It must have been terribly upsetting to see so many amputees and people in poor health. I can only congratulate you for being so strong and doing the best for yourself. Hope you and Popeye have a restful night.

Good luck gennepher. Don’t let the idiots get you down. Someone who is comfortable in their career, and who regularly updates their training and info base would not have behaved in such a pathetic way. Shame that you came across the dimwit. That’s hopefully not the norm among healthcare professionals.
Fingers crossed for you that the eye specialist is not such an insecure prat.

Thank you @Viv19
He was still giving out diet information that was printed initially, on the web, in 2010, 2011, and 2012. He wasn't giving out anything that was printed recently.

The eye specialist was good today. I got a decent guy. But I had been very anxious. So the laser procedure had gone well.

Morning All. 6.2 today and I had a safe dinner. Wonder if the humid thundery weather has any effect. @gennepher hope the eye clinic goes well today and I am sorry the dietician was so rude and unprofessional. I would ask to see a different dietician if possible, in my experience people who are rude to senior ladies seldom change their spots. I will be late posting tomo as I have my second Lucentis injection at the eye clinic at 0800 which will mean leaving home very early.
Thank you @PenguinMum
The eye clinic appointment went well for me, the doc was very good.
But that dietician does need dealing with. But I do need an advocate to help me.

Have a good night's sleep tonight for your second injection tomorrow.
Hope all goes well.
Take care
