You’ll need to call Abbott because they will ask for those codes if you are having issues.

I’be sent them an email detail asking what they mean, and one about failed update. They say they’ll reply in 72 hours so long wait, and that there’s a high volume of traffic - prob not the only one with an update fail!

Good luck @slip. Wrapping pills in tuna, cold meat, etc etc sometimes got them down our last cat’s gullet. Current cat, Brian, needs to be wrapped in a towel, held down firmly and given a treat afterwards. I think most pills from the vets probably taste disgusting, not that I’ve tried any.
I find putting them in cheese works - just mould the cheese around the pill and the cats eat it without realising

Good morning all
Everyone is busy today :)
My last day in work as am off camping in Brean tomorrow (best this weather stays nice!!!!)
Bloods were on one last night, way too many lows AND alarms so am pretty tired atm. See what tonite brings then could be an overnight basal change (AGAIN lol)

@Fairygodmother I do believe @slip is on about the reader and not the PC (if he wasn't then I am going to look dumb (NO comments on that please)).
@Mel dCP good luck with the maths today. And I hope #iamironwoman copes with limited internet (yeah I know it runs on bluetooth)
@helensaramay your tea last night sounds REALLY nice. Unsure on tofu, not tried it and unsure if I want to lol. Sounds to much like toffee and I am scared it would put me off eating toffee :hilarious::hilarious:
@WuTwo WINNER @5.4 :) :)

And on about the Libre...I still say that I am part cyborg and the Libre is my overnight charge point
@porl69 hope you have a good holiday down here in sunny Somerset. Don’t drive too far on Brean beach they’re rescuing quite a few at the moment who got caught by the tide

Mutters dark and terrible thoughts about no-show gas supply re-instating people.

Mutters even more dark and terrible thoughts about having to go through a full day of Diabetes Training (for monitoring and injecting students) next week. I don't disagree with having to do the training, as it's totally different supporting someone else. (I did a lot of it before diagnosis.) However, now I'm even more clued up, I argued with the trainer last time and I'm ending this term in a Very Bad Mood so am very likely to argue again this time.

On a positive note, I've done a shedload of organist' paperwork so I can go off the organ stool for a couple of weeks with a clear conscience!

So I was on the asumption that I can Bolus for brekkie lunch and dinner, 3 times
So if I have my dinner say and later on I fancy something else which I no will make my bg rise I could Bolus for the 4 th time again for that bit of food
Basically yes, I have no real idea how many carbs as a whole were in the dish, but I know from experience that once this run of insulin wears off, that there is a fair old chance it will rise later. It's because of the sauce, fats and oils that used in Indian cooking, slows the absobtion of carbs down.

Not sure at the moment how much but according the predictive graph on xDrip it will rise later on :)

It’s holiday time. The July fortnight as it’s affectionately known here in Leicester.
Off to Boscastle. Will be visiting Padstow, Looe, Mevagissey and a few other places of interest.
Obviously my diabetes will be tagging along. We have an understanding. I cut it a bit of slack and adjust the control parameters, in return I expect it to not stop me from having a good time.
Going through a period of quite extreme insulin sensitivity at the moment, but I know full well it’s not going to last for long.

For snacks, I do the pay as you go system, bolus for the biscuits and if I want sweets, I bolus for the sweets.
Today I had mcdonalds, I did split bolus, but I remained high after 4 hr mark - novorapid and fiasp both last for 4 hours, so I recorrected. Low carb snacks or food give or take may need some insulin, but tiny amounts.
So I was on the asumption that I can Bolus for brekkie lunch and dinner, 3 times
So if I have my dinner say and later on I fancy something else which I no will make my bg rise I could Bolus for the 4 th time again for that bit of food

As mentioned you can theoretically bolus as often as you like. BUT you also have to take into consideration IOB ( insulin on board ). Remember your bolus can still be having an affect on your BS a good 5 hrs after injecting. Injecting more insulin within this time frame can lead to unexpected lows and hypos. It’s all trial, error and experience.

I’m astonished there’s been no follow up. But then again, given the state of the system and what we’re told about the overwhelming result of medics leaving the U.K. and retiring, maybe I shouldn’t be.
We can’t tell you what to do, but there’s a wealth of T1 experience on this site so please, please ask us to share what we’ve found works individually for each of us any time you want. We’re all different, one size doesn’t fit all, but I think I’ve learned more here than anywhere else.

You'll have to be firm and stern and keep pushing for help. But at the same time we can all share some help, we all have to inject for carbs however little. I know some T1s are surprised having to inject for carrots. Taking into consideration other factors as well - weather, DP, hormones, stress and other illnesses.

It’s very early days @Gaffer type 1. Five weeks - was it a shock or a relief to have a diagnosis? And welcome to this very exclusive club. And to the best thread on the forum.
Have you got an appointment booked with a Diabetes Specialist Nurse, or with someone at a diabetes clinic? If you have, then it’d be a good idea to keep a record of what you’re eating at each meal and what your blood sugars are before you eat and two to three hours after you eat. The timeframe’s often difficult to set for recording blood sugars after you eat but any kind of record will help whoever sees you to assess what treatment you’ll need.
What were your symptoms before diagnosis, and do you know how high your blood sugars were then? It’s said that it’s not a good idea to aim for perfect results but on early on as a sudden reduction can have a bad effect on eyesight.
To test blood sugars you’ll need a meter. Ask your GP if they can prescribe one for you, and test strips to go with it. Maybe you’ve already got one.
I use scales that weigh in grams and have a function that’ll return to zero so that I can add other foods without needing a new plate or bowl, plus a book or app called Carbs and Cals.
You’ll be able to calculate how much insulin you need for the carbohydrates you eat when you’re given a ratio of insulin:carb. Maybe you’ve already got one to work with. The record of carb eaten and blood sugar results will help to find out what your individual ratio should be.
Good luck.

Sorry things have been so silent from your clinic @Gaffer type 1 - it’s quiye possibly to fall through the net, I did myself for a long time.

As the others have said, keeping good records is a really valuable tool. I use an app called MySugr to log all my meals and doses, plus a load of other info - driving, sickness, location of food (very useful when eating out as you can see what you had at that place before and how well your carbs guess and dosing went) etc. It’s invaluable. I photograph all me meals to add into my logs as a visual aid as well. It will also produce very visual PDF reports that are useful to takento clinic. The more data you give it, the more useful it becomes: theres a free more limited version but I have the paid one and it’s worth every penny - it’s two or three quid a month.

For carb counting, I use another app called MyFitnessPal as it gives you the nutritional breakdown of millions of foods. Just be aware that the data is added by the users, so may have errors, but check against the label on your pack to make sure it’s accurate. You can build up a detailed food diary and print reports to take to clinic. When searching for foods I’d suggest adding UK or the name of a British supermarket so that you get our carb counts rather than the American ones, which include fibre content, and we don’t dose for fibre!

The DAFNE (dose adjustment for normal eating) course teaches you how to match your insulin to your food. It starts off by suggesting you try one unit of fast acting insulin per 10g carbohydrate and then tweak it from there. The start point is:

Fast acting insulin is in your system for 4 hours
1u per 10g carbs
10g carbs raises you by 3mmol
1u drips you by 3mmol
YDMV (your diabetes may vary!)

And for many people that holds true, it does for me after midday. In the morning my ratios are 1u:7g carb and 1u drops me by 2mmol, for example. Apps like MySugr can use all these ratios once you’ve entered them to suggest doses, taking into account hope much insulin and carbohydrate you already have in your body.

Tl;dr - get in touch with your clinic of course, but hopefully we can help you get to grips with it ❤️
