@Gaffer type 1 Are you on a fixed amount for your bolus at each meal at the moment?

I'm asking because I know a lot of people are to start with. Even though I already had a good idea of carb counting, I stuck to the 4 units with each meal and correct a higher than 10 before I went to bed as firmly instructed until I was let loose with adjusting my doss. Even then I had to have all my homework done and checked for a month with a clear diary of what I'd eaten, accurate carb counts, dose taken, all blood sugars recorded before officially being let loose.

But, yes, taking everything else into consideration, I do now take extra or cut back as needed.

Morning all...

Thanks all for the heads up
As I haven't been contacted medically by a single person since diagnosis 5 weeks ago thanks for your help

Just to add - it's worth you getting on to them after 5 weeks. I'd still be waiting if I hadn't...

Morning chaps. Off to school for regular Friday job share. Very boring night, Loop is “taking care of business” to the extent I might name it Elvis.

Have a good day, friends ❤️

People whose attitude says "Me, my opinion, my desire is greater and more important than anyone else"

And to whom the principle of ahimsa is a closed book that they refuse to open because it would make life more difficult for them.
Morning all. Got a member of my important family of clients coming in today. Lives abroad but pops back from time to time to fulfil the residency rules.

Lovely guy - my age, veggie, Buddhist and very quiet. Doesn't mean he isn't thinking hard though. I like him a lot and it wil be a pleasure to meet with him.

After that I might ask boss if I can be excused. Brain is still woozy and body very wobbly - he did notice yesterday and we made sure I didn't do anything I can't undo if I have to!

This is a total Oh s**t moment as I realise that the clash of the tablets has hit me with shocking force and will be in place until about 1.00 p.m. and - joy - at its worst whilst important client expects some sort of sense from me.

Hmmm.. What can I possibly say "Hey - client - good to see you, I am junked up to the eyeballs but sit down and we'll go through your financial affairs ...."

Mornin’ all.
Sorry being a pharmacist’s store cupboard’s left you woozy @WuTwo, but hope the meeting gives more pleasure than embarrassment.
Goodness, @Robinredbreast, 130 miles - is the scenery good? Will you be escorting the same two lads again after the holidays?
Are you cooking on gas yet @Japes?
How would Elvis cope with Elvis’ diet, assuming it was a fish and cheese burger with the bun and fries @Mel d CP? Have you hit him with a bigger carb load yet?
Wonder why it’s never been important to name the pens, is it because they’re so familiar they’d end up just ‘you’ or ‘it’. Maybe I don’t appreciate them enough.

The beauty of people being clients for the last 25-30 years is that you get to know each other as people, not just as professional and client. All he'll be is concerned, which is sweet of him. I've been so very lucky to have them as clients all this long time!

Hi all hope ur well.

I now have BD shields that go on my needles so I dnt hardly feel it much now as I inject.

Also been reading that possibly can get feet issues. Tbh it scares me don't wanna loose my feet.
Saw consultant few days ago he did a vibration test on my foot and breath sign of relief when I felt it straight away on tip of toes.

Cats doing fine, but we didn't get a call from the vets about his blood results yesterday, they should be phoning today, or the wife can re-chase them up again! But he's going from strength to strength (read annoying to even more annoying - so pretty much back to normal!)

@WuTwo sounds fun, going through someone elses finances while tripping away with the fairies so to speak!

BGs have been fairly good, apart from yesterday afternoon, I decided to pre-bolus for lunch expecting it to handle my usual post lunch highs better, nope! the only effect it had was to stop my usual drop when cycling back to the car home (from a usual highish number to in-target, I think that half an hour earlier jab means come home time I've even less active IOB)

I don't want to scare you but I can think of much worse complications than loosing your feet! But having said that you would be seriously seriously unlucky to have done any permanent damage to your feet (or anything else ) in the short time you've been diabetic and there are people who joined the club 50+years ago and are complication free.

@Robinredbreast does anyone (you or your lads) get end of term presents, today? When I was at school, it was not viewed favourably amongst your fellow pupils if you gave your teachers anything. It seems to be a competition now to give them the best box of chocolates, mug or whatever.

Hi, I have bought a soft toy for one and a Thomas the tank engine train + 2 small mini TTTE puzzles( from The Works) for the other one. They are both older lads and I will miss them both. From me it's just a have a great summer holiday and I'm not expecting any gifts, but this morning the driver presented me with a wonderful looking cucumber plant, as mine died and he has three other's at home, so, really chuffed about that. I have bought him a card already and a little something to go with it, I will let you know what his reaction is later.:)

I’ve had the Diabeast for nearly 50 years now @Delticmatt100 and @Gaffer type 1 and have no complications. My feet are fine, though if I go barefoot on gravel or encounter a rose cutting on the grass I could wish they weren’t. Everything else seems to work well enough for an oldie, and the only things that have carped out are bits that non T1s have trouble with too. I’ve a new titanium super-knee and had early cataract ops so that the retinal photographs wouldn’t be blurred - but no retinopathy, just better sight now than I had as a young’un.
Complications tend to follow on from years of poor blood sugar control and these days we have better tech like meters and the Freestyle Libre or Dexcom to help us.
If you want to read up about T1 there are a few books that help. You can get ‘Think Like a Pancreas’ by Gary Schneider on kindle and I’m sure the others have some favourites too.
Another thing that helps stop the worry is the lighthearted banter on this thread

Maximum carb load so far has been 20g in one go - I don't prebolus at all for that. In all honesty I feel so good on the diet I follow that I don't want to change things by adding carbs - I don't like the groggy "carb coma" feeling I get.

@Fairygodmother - Have you managed to update your Libre reader yet? I'm having all sorts of bother with it.

I can't call Abbott today, as I'm in and out of meetings all day, but if I can't do it on what will be the 5721st attempt, I guess I'll call them on Monday.

H,i some of the scenery is just heavenly on the way to the college, beautiful countrysides :) I will try and take some pics and ask the driver to drive go slow lol, we also go to an Army based town. The mum of one of the lads asked me If I was going to escort her boy next term, but I have no idea and she mentioned she would like to ask for me, driver is retiring too. So much happens at the council during the summer hols, with rescheduling, escorts retire, redundancies too, so I am not sure what will happen when September is here.

It takes a lot to shock me but a judgment in a Scottish court case published a few days ago left me gobsmacked:

https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/searc...gments&searchQuery=2019+sc+liv+60&wordsMode=0

A mother had a bit of Munchausens by proxy going on and decided to get herself a bit of attention by injecting her young daughter with an estimated 170 units of Novorapid and ramming her pump basal rate up to 200% for long periods. I really can't contemplate what having that amount of iob would be like.

Aside from the shock value, I've read a few cases in the past where the court has had a really limited understanding of T1, but the sheriff here is pretty spot on with it.
