Thanks DJC it has not been an easy time but I am getting there.. I could have wept when I read about the coffee 'incident' what a waste & all that clearing up...I can empathise having done similar myself so many times...I have very conceivable kind of coffee making device however I rely on a stainless steel cafetiere a friend bought me many many years ago from 'Woolies' after I broke 4/5 glass jugs consecutively...dare I say you need a coffee (I'm running for cover before you read that).

I’m sticking to a stainless steel cafetière now too! I think mine was from Asda, it wasn’t expensive but it’s really nice and best of all it won’t smash.
I was unbelievably grumpy this morning but feel a lot better now. Hope you e had a good day too and things start to pick up for you.

thank you, it has come as a complete shock, and I was only speaking to him last week and he was so full of life and planning on coming back to the gym (ours is like one big extended family) and to receive the news yesterday, Well to say I'm at a loss is an understatement. He had the same illness as my wife, so I understood the dark places it can put you in mentally, and not being able to carry on, so this has shocked me to the core. I just wish he had confided in me like he had in the past due to what my wife was/is going through I feel I may have been able to help in some small way. But we will never know now. Just feel all at sea at the moment.
Apologies for the bit of a rant.

Don’t apologise, you are more than welcome to rant as much as you want. I think it’s quite cathartic to write stuff down too, especially on this thread where we are all virtual friends.
I’m assuming from what you’ve written that he took his life? A friend of Mr C did the same, many years ago now but we are still no nearer understanding any of it.

Thanks DJC3 i try not to panic i used to and would eat the contents of the cupboards and fridge then i would go from very low to extremly high(20s)and it would have a yoyo effect but as time as gone on i have got more used to it .and tend not to panic as much. part and parcel i suppose my outlook now is treat test and carry on

You have an amazing attitude to it, I’m full of admiration for the way you deal with it. The Keep Calm and Carry in phrase could have been written with you ( and @Cumberland )in mind!

6.8 this Friday morning. I feel somewhat better; now I don't hurt so much, just feel completely "meh" about everything. I don't know what's going on. Maybe it's built-up side effects of all these legal, prescribed drugs I'm on.

@DJC3 what a mess about the coffee! I would want to just crawl back into bed and cry. A few months ago I bought a stovetop percolator so I could brew real ground coffee ... I still have nearly a full can of coffee stored away in the freezer, and have gone back to just popping a mug of water in the microwave and stirring in instant. 2 - 2 1/2 minutes in the microwave gives me time to prick and record and feed the KittenCat, and the new cat coffee mug I bought handles the heat well, its handle staying nice and cool.

]

I should have known you’d have a cat coffee mug Saskia!
I do hope you’re feeling a bit better now. I don’t think many docs know a lot about drug side effects and more importantly the interactions between various drugs which can cause worrying symptoms in themselves.

Just in and catching up. @johnpol so sorry about the sudden loss of your friend. It happened to me a few years ago and the shock just rocks you. Wise words and good sentiments. @DJC3 goodness how on earth did that happen to the coffee jug and of course if it was to happen it would be when you werent on hand to minimise the damage. Thank goodness Dennis wasnt scalded. @SaskiaKC I am glad to hear you are a bit better and hope the “betterness” continues. I will now think of you sipping coffee from your cat mug when I have my first mug of tea! @trick60 welcome back to perogued reality whatever it all means. Good FBG btw. @Bubbsie sending you hugs for the horrible time you have had/are having due to the selfishness of others. Just remember you are by far the better person. @ianpspurs sending hugs galore and hope your recovery has begun andthey have given you lots of painkillers and tea!

I hadn’t even thought about the Dennis situation! Goodness! Yes, it could have been a lot worse.
We went for a lovely woodland walk this afternoon with my oldest daughter, grandchildren and their Great Dane Melody . Let Dennis off lead for the first time - I was petrified. I should have done it weeks ago but just didn’t trust him not to leg it! Having the others there gave me more confidence and Melody has a very calming effect on him.
I have to say he was brilliant, he trotted on ahead with the 8yo ( they have a great bond) and kept looking back to check I was there, he came back when called so I was chuffed to bits.
I have found the best way to call him is by yelling ‘Chicken, chick chick chicken!’ Sounds ridiculous to anyone else but it works - I started when I did have a bit of chicken for him, but he doesn’t care what it is. Lol.

Maybe shouldn’t laugh at this but the mental image I got of you doing that has really tickled me. I agree wholeheartedly with you and @PenguinMum about KitKats - they were my nemesis and I have to try not to even look at one nowadays.
@DJC3 I didn't understand where it had gone...I was only licking the dark chocolate off, and sucking the chocolate...

Haha..had visions of @gennepher ..chocolate ring around mouth, and looking up quickly and going "WHAT? :wideyed:".....:hilarious:

Mmhh kit kat....:arghh:

Well I did @jjraak
I was only sucking the chocolate off...I couldn't understand where the middle of the kit kat had gone.

In my defence, however, my kit kat lasted the longest. My friends gobbled theirs in seconds...I think mine lasted 20 minutes..........

Yes he did we are all at a loss as to why, we think after a relapse in his condition he just couldn't cope with it anymore and had had enough. He had crohns disease, and it does put you in a really dark place mentally with the never ending nature of it. It's just such a shame that it just got too hard to carry on. I thank you all for your hugs and concerns

a very good friend passed away very, very unexpectedly and I'm feeling a little bit "delicate" today and don't really want to adult.

Hug your loved ones tight, tell them you care and love them and importantly, listen when they have something to tell you.

I apologise as I don't mean to be miserable but sometimes things happen that knocks the wind out of your sails,
Genuinely please take care everyone.

So sorry for the Loss @johnpol

Does shake us when realities show the impermanence of the world around.

Liking the sentiments, seems so easy, yet sure we all skip over bits of that each day.
a timely reminder to care and SHOW we care.

take care my friend.

Morning...despite being up at 8am taking my time posting here...had a leisurely start to my day breakfast coffee & lots of thinking about some hard decisions I've had to take recently...feeling comfortable with my course of action although the last 6/7 weeks have been so upsetting/unsettling...I'm amazed how much of my time has been taken up by some who assumed my time was less valuable than theirs... that sense of entitlement is astounding...friendship/kindness/respect has to be earned not simply expected (and on occasion when necessary reciprocated)...overall things are improving albeit slowly...woke to a 6.2

sometimes it does take those rose coloured glasses falling off for us to truly see the world around us.

some people really just aren't worth our time.(or effort)
i like to think given enough of it, they might see it that way too eventually.

But hey you..doing ok
took a difficult situation, made the hard calls
took stock and are now moving slowly forward.

Respect.

Day by Day, that distance improves the perspective.
until one day, it almost doesn't hurt.

best wishes for coming weeks & months x

Thanks Krystyna, it’s a joint effort though I think we all know. This forum has been and is a lifeline for so many. I doubt I’d still be in such good health without it.

Spot on @DJC.

Does remind me very much of a film a few years back, expanding on an idea
'pass it forward'.

rather then repay the giver of help, your honour bound to pass on similar help to another.

I see that day after day on here, and you were one of those who came to my aid.
so i KNOW you may have gotten, but you gave back a hell of a lot more.

but that's how the forum rolls it seems to me.

we are all in the same boat, but we are not ALL able to row at the same speed
or do the same task, but we ALL give something...Love it.

Coffee seems to be quite a big thing in many of our lives here doesn’t it? I’ve become quite obsessed by it.
I must confess to having a spare Nespresso Machine so I don't need to go without my Nespresso for even one day if my main machine breaks down

I do feel a bit guilty using the capsules even though I recycle them. A cafetiere is more environmentally friendly but I do love trying lots of different coffees which I can do with the capsules. I do like the sound of your stainless steel cafetiere.

FBS creeping up! From the 5s to the 6s. Highest today at 6.7! I'm trying to make good choices on the cruise ship but no idea what the ingredients are even in a steak au gratin. It is what it is. That said I have been getting readings in the 4s during day. Some consolation.

Last full day tomorrow. Travel back via Rome Sunday then back to normality. Only done 1 other cruise when I thought I was non diabetic! Cocktails galore. Not one cocktail on this one. Not missed them. Not when I think about the sugar within!!! Sticking to prosecco or wine and not excessive. Waste of an all inclusive but hey hoe.

The lack of wifi is driving me mad!

Hope everyone is ok. Looking forward to catching up soon. Lots to read!!!!

DAY 5 - PALMA DE MALLORCA

The island of Mallorca offers towering mountains rising over blue water but its hidden gem is Palma de Mallorca, where you'll find quaint historic streets, Gothic castles and gastronomic delights. See the circular courtyard and Arab inspired arches of Castell de Bellver, and take in the fresh scent of the pine forest that surrounds it. Not my words but taken from my cruise ship leaflet! Why reinvent the wheel.

Another walking the feet off our legs day. I can't wear shorts though as my usual holiday leg heat rash is back with a vengeance. Both legs look like I've been VERY hit and miss with the suncream!!! So long dress it is, which probably makes me stand out even more! That and my baleasha beacon of a nose! I could actually light a room up today.

Anyway it was a 5 minute walk off the ship. From this point you could hop on the hop on hop off bus (very aptly named I feel). They are usually around €25 for 24 hours). Bikes available, €12 a day for normal bikes and €22 for electric (eyes lit up at this point .). We walked straight past (Eric dragged me kicking and screaming!) and along the port side for about 45 minutes. Our destination, the magnificent cathedral which we could see in the distance. It's a very pleasant walk where you could admire the hundreds of boats in the picturesque harbour. And the weather was once again glorious. 90 degrees of sunshine and blue skies.

We met our free walking tour guide, Carlos, at the cathedral. Group split into 2 as so many had turned up. Spanish speaking in one and English the other. Just 3 in ours so a very private affair although we did pick up 2 waifs and strays a few minutes in. Meandering through the narrow streets, stopping here and there to listen some more and take pics.

FACTS

The Cathedral took over 300 years to build and had 10 different builders (for obvious reasons). Earthquake brought part of the faciour down but they rebuilt it. Made it look even more stunning. The intricate detail is jaw dropping. It only got electricity in 1903. Needed quite a few candles to light it up before then!!! Electricity compliments of good old Gaudi who spent about 12 years working on the cathedral. He really is everywhere in Spain. A very busy man (was!).

1 million people on Mallorca. 500k in Palma! Muslim rule before 13th century. Christianity from 13th century to date.

There is a lovely Jewish quarter here. I took a photo of the hebrew writing on the floor for my Jewish friends

The beautiful olive tree in my photo was breathtaking. Firstly how do you get an olive tree to grow so big, I can't get mine out of a plant pot . Secondly how do you get a 600 year old GINORMOUS olive tree and move it from one place to another, replant it well enough for it to flourish. Cos that's what happened 1989.

Horse and carriage rides available if you have a spare €50. Shankses pony for us.

After our walk we made our way back to the olive tree to enjoy a glass of wine and just stare at it!

We spent an hour wandering around the streets, listening to the musicians, looking in shops, admiring the architecture which is just our cuppa. I do love a pretty balcony. Here they are everywhere. Absolutely LOVED Palma.

Then the long walk back. I started to flake in the heat at around 22000 steps! No shade. Reached the boat. Saw the guys with the drinking water. Was it a mirage though??? No thankfully. Water has never tasted so good. Had to be back for 4pm. Got back at 3.30. No rushing. Perfectly timed.

The walking had made us really hungry so a quick bite to eat in the Windjammer (you name it its on offer eaterie) Chicken curry with veg and a bit of pork something or other on the side. Tasty.

Straight to the Sky Bar for the sail away scheduled for 4.45. Back to our room to shower and change for dinner. Dress code = tropical/laid back lounging. Basically anything goes. Long dress only for me!

Amazing dinner once again. Even though I wasn't really hungry as I'd had a large lunch I managed 3 courses! And no sugar ice cream! It really does blow me away this cruising malarkey. You want for nothing. Melbon our waiter brought me cheese over as soon as we sat down as a pre starter starter! He knows how much I love it. I couldn't manage it but Eric helped me out!

We went to hear the latino band. Had a little game of drafts whist there. Not played for so many years we almost thought about dragging one of the children over to give us some instructions . Eric lost NOT!!!

Then to the theatre to watch rock band Our Lady Valentine who were fantastic. Queen, Bon Jovi, Deep Purple and .....Billy Idol!

70s themed music in the Centrum. But so much to choose from to be honest.

Back to our room to plan the next day. The Island of Corsica and formal evening now known as 'wear your best'. This really is the life.

STAIRS CHALLENGE - SUCCESS
STEPS ALMOST 28000!

Pics to follow

Liking the sounds of that day, @Debandez

Sorry about the rash, but long dress, most elegant and cool..very Joanna Lumley,
cycling around sounds lovely until you forget which way to look and
THEY forget you don't know were you're going..:woot:

Shanks's pony best bet..and you SEE more of the route.

Like the pic..but is the olive tree still to post ?
some times it's those 'Quiet' moments that please the most, i think.

Did like barcelona when we went, got a lovely vibe to it.
thank you for taking me back..:)

Next stop corsica...can't wait.:D

A Supper Saga

The KittenCat expressed a desire for some supper. So I served her some of the expensive pet shop turkey & giblets I had bought with a coupon, some of which she enjoyed for lunch today.
Tonight she would not even draw close enough to sniff at it. So I added some of the chicken she likes.
No thank you.
So I opened a can of her favorite grocery store turkey & giblets.
Nope.
So I opened one last can. Tuna. Because, you know, Friday. Not that I am a Catholic, but the grocery store deli still serves people fish on Fridays, and I had bought some.
Now, on the KittenCat's plate, she has a smorgasbord. Two different brands of turkey & giblets, chicken, and tuna.
NOW she goes over to her plate and starts to eat ...
Wait for it ...
The expensive pet shop turkey & giblets I had served first, at which she would not even sniff a few moments before.
And here I sit eating my delicious deli people cod.
^. .^

Rant away - life events such as these can, and has, knocked you sideways. Getting your feelings out (talking and writing about it) can be of great mental help - well, so I have found.
Take Care.
