What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

DAY 4 - BARCELONA (we know a song about that dont we)

Self serve continental breaky (minus the bread) so quick and easy. Light and refreshing.

Got the shuttle into town rather than walking @40 mins, didnt want to miss this one!.

What a town it is!!! Only just made it for this free walking tour! Standing in the wrong place today! Spotted the guide's brolly at the last minute down the road. John our guide from new Zealand (NOT AUSTRALIA! his words) was both funny and knowledgeable. What did I learn today? Well.....

There are too many pigeons in Barcelona. They have a humane way of dealing with the issue though, they don't cull them. Birth control bird seed!!! I can tell you ITS NOT WORKING.

John petrified the life out of us all confirming it's the no. 1 european pickpocketing capital. So everyone was on guard. I had my selfie stick at the ready, prepared for battle!!!

We walked 2.5 hours around the gothic quarter. Magnificent. The buildings are breathtaking. Gaudis are querky but stunning. And Picassos work is here! 2 great artists. They never saw eye to eye. I now know all their goings on. A right pair, especially Picasso .!

Human towers are Catalunyian national sport. Basically people climb on top of each other and once they reach a great height they pop a small helmetless child on top!! Health n safety eat your heart out! The child on top gives a 4 finger salute. Not 2 thankfully.
10 storeys is the record height (the metal in the photo constitutes how high it would be). The child could be as young as 8! They call this sport.

1992 Barcelona held the Olympics. The city was rejuvenated for this. They even constructed 3 miles of beach! It paid off. Went from 1 million visitors to 30 million a year.

London, Paris then Barcelona most visited cities. What about Roma!!!

The walking tour was great. Then we walked for 30 minutes to La Segrada familia to see if it's been finished! Eeerrrrr no! Didnt go inside. Kinda nice but too many tourists (we were 2 of 1000s!).

Then we hopped in a rickshaw for 25 minutes of fun zooming around the city with Pablo in his electric powered bike. Loved it. Got a bit more history.

Back to the ship. Chill on balcony (could really get used to this life). Changed for posh nosh then white night on the top deck. Great fun. Entertainment and dancing, under the stars til gone midnight in the warm breeze, something else! I've added a couple of clips to give you an idea of how things roll on here. God knows how but I ended up doing the conga. Right past Eric who had sneaked another cocktail in for himself whilst I had been dancing.

Eric slurred 'these cocktails aren't touching me at all'. I laughed and said 'think it's time for bed Ezzy .

( Hi Eric. Hope your have a great time too.
Looks and sounds fantastic :headphone:)
It is amazing!!! Awesome experience. Loving every second. Hope I'm not boring everyone on this thread though!!! I just share everything in my life!!!

Hi, again, everyone, I just want to report that I am feeling almost 100% better. I'd planned to take some more ibuprofen after breakfast but instead I took a long nap. I had a lovely dream --

I was staying with my parents at an inn in a village in the Cotswolds. They went up their room for a nap and I went out on the town. (Actually I was there undercover.) I met all of y'all, and we met up with the local police to visit a local fair/art show. I thought I had to meet with the police just to get permission to sell some of my artwork (I don't even do artwork!), but it turned out to be more than that.

I woke up before finding out what the "more" we were there for was. Maybe the "police" part was the result of my binge-watching Blue Bloods yesterday, but I'm sure the rest of the dream was an extension of all the camaraderie we enjoy in this thread.

Good morning people, a 5.9 on the dice today at 7.00am. Horribly jet lagged after taking off from McCarren at 6pm Monday in the dry heat of Las Vegas, flying for 10 hours, then landing in Manchester at dinner time Tuesday, I can’t sleep on airplanes it’s not the fear of hitting the ground at a 1000 mph, it’s just that I’d like to be more comfortable if it happens.
Anyway glad to see you’re all still ok and I hope all goes well Ian.
Good to be back in Blighty

Hope the jet lag wears off but the accounts of the holiday were magical and the memories made will last forever - long after jet lag has worn off.

Fbg 7.1

I said I gave it a good talking to because it wouldn’t come out of the 9’s

But that wasn’t the whole story...

I ate no carbs at all yesterday. I ate within a two and a half hour window in the morning. It was shorter than the usual 3 hour morning window because I had to go out to my foot appointment.

The foot appointment didn’t happen because they said there was no record of me being booked. So I was cross. Then I realised I had the appointment letter and showed her. So she checked again. Still no record of me being booked in. So I got a bit more annoyed and showed her the text message I had received the previous afternoon from them, less than 16 hours previously, reminding me to attend this foot appointment. So, by default, my foot appointment must be in the system somewhere.

So she goes away to talk to someone. Comes back with apologies. Doesn’t know what has happened. I still want to know how I can get a text reminder about an appointment which they say there is no record of on their computers.

She offers me an appointment for next Monday. I still have my stern annoyed face on. She is still trying to apologise.

I was psyched up for this appointment. So I nearly went a bit awol, in my mind over food. All I wanted was a loaf of sliced white bread and to toast the whole lot of it, and eat the pile of toast one after the other. It was realer than real in my mind. I don’t even have a toaster now. Since then my tummy began rumbling and grumbling, and still is.

I couldn’t get that delightful image of that pile of toast out of my mind yesterday.

Came home. But I wouldn’t let myself have anything to eat on a comfort basis, because that is what it was. I still stuck to my initial plan of having no more to eat until this morning. So that would work out a nearly 22 hour fast (which I haven’t broken yet, just having a black coffee).

I was upset about a message I have to pass on to someone today, so that disturbed me and kept me awake last night.

Anyway, before I went to bed I took my reading. I was in shock. It had gone down to 7.3.

Because I was awake in the night I did a couple more readings. A 6.5. Then a 6.1. So I was wondering what the dawn reading would bring. It was 7.1 like I said above.

Was it the fasting? Was it the no carbs? Was it the stern talking to?

had very similar @gennepher
same scenario..
" hi here for an appointment, 430pm .. "
"nope..not on system..you should of booked, but we can book you now ..name. age. etc "

This is ridiculous. There must be a common bug in the computers then. Appointments which are not appointments.

We get a black mark on our records if we don’t turn up for an appointment. But it doesn’t happen the other way.

If nurse fell sick then surely they can use the same text facility to inform you. But of course, the usual trick of we tried to notify/telephone you, when they did nothing of the sort.

Thank you for the wishes next appointment will go okay...

I wasn’t going to cave in to food that day :stop:

Fbg at 5am is 7.4

I reckon that is good for me. But I am still aiming for lower. However I wake up several times a night for the bathroom so I am now checking them a couple of times in the night. And I was in the 6’s both readings in the night.

What I am going to do today is not eat first thing like I normally do, just because I still feel full from yesterday. My stomach doesn’t feel empty this morning. And check how my blood sugars behave. I am going to wait until midday and have my 3 hour eating window then. That will make this at least a 24 hour fast in this intermittent fasting. Yet I am still eating plenty of food. My normal food - very low carb (spellcheck keeps changing carb to card???) stuff.

I do have treats. I like my treats, but they are low (ish) carb. However, I have my treats and chocolate between the two meals I have. Because the second meal appears to absorb or nullify any extra carbs in the treats (although they are still low carb). Having chocolate after my last meal even as a dessert seems to higher my blood sugar levels the rest of the day. But not if I have it before the last meal.

I like writing down these observations what I eat and do for the diabetes, on a day, on here. Writing them in a private notebook doesn’t have the same impact for me. It is useful for me to collate my thoughts on this thread.

I always have at least an hour meditation and reflection time when I wake up. This is my half hour reflection time for today. Now for half an hour or so meditation.

By the way, doesn’t it feel winter has arrived? Not because it is colder, but it is DARK outside!!!

Time for hibernation soon...

Ah, another observation. I don’t know if any of you have noticed or feel this, but when I do this intermittent fasting, time stretches, and I get so much more done in the day.

Yesterday (because of the intermittent fasting) I got so much done - in studying (I do online courses, yesterday was analysing the novel, today is analysing fairy tales) and my mind is so much more alert and not sluggish, and in gardening (I am cutting down willow and bamboo because I am repairing a willow bower I made, with J, all those years ago and recent storms uprooted it and irreparably damaged it) and so today this morning as soon as it is light (dawn is doing a few streaks now) I will do a cobble up job to recreate that bower again with anything in the garden and garage. It will definitely look interesting.

I have frequent rests on my thatched swing with the cat, and I actually feel I am having a lazy restful day.

The intermittent fasting gives me more get up and go (it’s just my arthritic body that has has restrictions and decides to stop, so time out on my thatched swing), more mental alertness, and more positivity.

That is my manifesto for today. And I have eaten into my meditation time writing this extra bit. But hey time stretches when I intermittent fast and I have all the time in the world...

You all have a good day.

My good wishes to all of you especially those who have medical stuff and procedures going on.

May the force be with you!

That's really interesting. I also love discovering what works for me. Thank goodness for glucose meters - without them we wouldn't have a clue.

Wow, over 6 hours sleep, Only usually just manage 5. However the BG readings seem to go hand in hand with the hours sleep
6.3 this morning.

Good morning and best wishes to all whatever your day brings.

Dry here but looking at the internet we are going to need our waterproofs for the folk festival weekend in Wales.

Will be out of touch until Monday.
