it is that level of hypocrisy that is most difficult to watch, isn’t it?
I don't encounter a whole lot of predjudice because I don't exactly interact with people all that much... But if this is how the general population thinks of T2's, then I suddenly understand why newly diagnosed people feel such shame. :( The rightious indignation combined with this sort of nonsense, made my toes curl.

I understand what you're saying. I just thought, why is he making a joke about a chronic illness? Imagine if someone on television l, on a family show made a joke about cancer or HIV, it would be totally unacceptable, so why is it OK to make jokes surrounding diabetes of any type?

From what I saw, it was a stupid remark and hopefully Mr Hollywood will retract his comment with an apology.

Hmmmm @Jim Lahey a TV celebrity on prime time TV should be a bit more careful with his "throw away" remarks. Pretty sure he said something similar a few years ago

It was silly remark to make, he should retract it, with an apology too, then move on.

Not just type 2s either......

I’m with @NicoleC1971 on this one. It strikes me as little more than a relatively harmless, throwaway comment. Perhaps somewhat ill-advised, but not worth getting upset over. The diabetes specialist nurse who advised me to eat “SOME” sugar, on the other hand...

All-in-all, in the game of diabetes misinformation, I think we have bigger problems than a TV celebrity half-seriously proposing that a plate full of refined carbohydrate might not be the elixir of good health. I don’t expect many to agree, but that is the beauty of opinions

I do get your point Jim but as with any other form of bigotry/discrimination/bad behaviour, it is the cumulative effect that matters, the drip, drip, drip effect that gets worse if each individual occurrence gets ignored or let off with a 'It's nothing, he didn't mean it, just a joke...'

Surely nobody actually thinks a TV baker or Chef is an expert on Nutrition or Metabolic Syndrome!

I just ignore garbage like that.

What we need to fight is the equally bad garbage coming form the majority of Health Care Professionals !

I'm surprised C4 let it go out, there must be more than a few choice words they have to edit out (Jo Brand gets hold of a few of them on Fridays - hilarious). He has retracted it, and has apologised, I'm with @Jim Lahey on this one; deep breath and time to let it go...:singing:

Agree. Especially as his apology probably has more impact than his off handed comment had in the first place.
Worse is that I googled it after your post to see about this apology and now have accidentally seen who's out this week :arghh:.

I always watch with 2 friends on thursdays or fridays. We live in different parts of the country but start the video at the same time and comment through whatsapp.

I don't watch the show. No interest. It has cake?

Lol, though I cut it, I didn't even touch our wedding cake. Though I made sure it was black & a replica image of my beloved van.. With "WED 666" on the number plate..

I've seen worst stuff with TV presenters.. Richard Madley interviewing David Blunket comes to mind, As his wife Judy is clearly wanting him to shut up. Car crash telly.

Lots of it!
And although I don't eat the stuff they make I love watching it :)

I am disappointed that one of the song writers for "my heart will go on" walked in to the bar (apparently, my sister & her husband knows these people & "shakes" in these "circles.") just as my wife &. I cut the cake..
& i still held the knife in my hand.. ;)

The ending...nooooooooo :arghh: lol, hope you enjoy it anyway @Antje77 xx

As an op-ed point, highlighting the POTENTIAL of harm it could cause is handy for those with little knowledge. I do feel it does need MUCH more explanation, but given the amount of "fake-news" that is always making the rounds especially on social media platforms like this how can we continue to be either surprised or indeed "annoyed" we are all part of the issue making the "snowflake" generation if we truly get annoyed by this irrelevant garbage.

I look forward to the replies I am now bound to get, but wont let it "worry" me, but promise to read them all carefully!

I wonder just why you think those Muppets on you tube and Instagram are called Influencers.

When a character on a soap opera on TV dies people send flowers and letters of condolence do not underestimate the power of the TV celeb Paul Hollywood says something then another celeb says some thing similar and then others and you get a consensus
that's why we should be concerned and not just shrug it off as of no consequence.
