My sister once dated a bloke, a farmer who lived on the family farm not far from Jonzac in the Cherante-Maratime. His mother used to harvest beans - sack loads of them and then jar them up - 365 jars - one a day until the next harvest - great enterprise - disgusting, boring, yuk - but cheap.
Have a few empty jars still. MrSlim brought my collection from UK. But no idea how to preserve anything by this method. Can see Google getting a workout later on.

You may well find better ideas but I vividly remember my grandparents and parents doing this before home freezers - https://www.chelseagreen.com/2019/preserve-techniques-green-beans/#:~:text=Make a brine using one, always well covered in brine. Top shelf of pantry full of kilner jars of beans. Shelf below was for bottled plums then pickled onions and cabbage just below.

Morening fellow posters, apologies, but no chance of catching up on posts etc. Life has a habit of playing games and we are mere pawns.

Stay well, stay safe and enjoy the absurd.

Good Muddy Cycle ride although a sail may have helped, blowing a gale. It was fun because I enjoy the activity but it did get me thinking about the new cycling idea from GOV.

I am not optimistic about it. A few years ago in the Welsh Valleys a similar scheme was introduced. I was working as a National Cycle Coach for British Cycling, training and assessing Cycle coaches on how to lead and train non cyclists to ride bikes. A lot of money was spent on bikes, training and wages. By the end of the first year most of the staff were laid off, bikes were all locked up and the scheme came to a halt. Not surprising, what does cycling offer to inspire someone overweight, comfortable with being a TV addict and not exercising, sitting in the warmth, enjoying beer and takeaways, travelling in a warm car when they need to and generally content with their Lott. OK maybe the worry of Obesity and Corvid will inspire some but in my experience this is going to be another waste of money. Sorry to be pessimistic, I would really like to think it will work, but I suspect not.

Edit... oh! And £50 to help with bike repairs, they must be joking!

POOR ol Mr SLIM....:woot:

great crop lizzie..very green fingered.

and do agree what a shame
Had expected to give some plants away, but my French neighbours said no thank you, the English ones fled back to UK to escape lockdown. So they didn't take any.
Left me with three bean dozen plants. Last year planted four courgette seeds and got two plants. This year six seeds produced four plants. Also had expected multiple visitors, so planned planting to feed the hungry horde, who ofc never arrived.
Am also suffering from an excess of cherry tomatoes, delicious little temptations, but on both of our eat only a few list :arghh:

You're not getting rid of him already, he's only just arrived. :)

What a crop, makes ours look very poor. We have to eat what we pick as there are so few.
Here I will confess that the french bean crop is in similar condition. Handful every couple of days only. They got infested with black aphids, (impossible to buy bug spray in supermarkets and garden centres were closed for months and too far away for access by bike.) And then slugs feasted on them. Last night some creature ate the entire root to one of the nine plants, further reducing their productivity.
Also the potatoes have been low producers. (perhaps fortunately ? As these are also on both of our Only a Few list)
The Swede and turnips have been badly chewed by a pest that is new to me, and apparently appeared here last year for the first time. The Flea Beetle. Some have been literally chewed to death.
Am struggling to find another vegetable to plant, if brassicas and root veg are almost impossible to grow without mucho pesticides. Which are definitely not approved of here.
Suggestions please

Good for you,
When the going gets tough....the tough get going!
D.

Not really, we have 'special interests' and these tend to be things we become extreme experts on. If pursued correctly with proper guidance it can be very lucrative. My own special interest funded my 'variable' existence for most of my life and in some ways still does.

The common problem for younger people on the spectrum is that they are often not allowed to play to their strengths which invariably is their special interest. This can cause many other problems which are then seen (and treated) as co-morbid when they are not. The world is full of spectrum folk following their dreams :)

Had my arm twisted to go a blustery afternoon walk. Trusty sketch pad always ready so did a quick sketch of the heathland whilst stopping for a cup of coffee, out of flask not cafe. A bit awkward as wind kept blustering the pages... might do a watercolour of it but I have so many of the heathland needs a different approach, food for thought. A5 sketch pad, colour pencils.

This was supposed to be a week-long project for my 2nd effort but in true AlienAspie form... I got fed up with it.

So, you can have the 'unfinished magpie'

I used Procreate and Zen for this as I couldn't do it all in Zen, and I can't paint from memory so the magpie was from a photo :)

Amazingly talented. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention but what is unfinished?

There were supposed to be more blossoms but they are sooooo boring :)

I envy the speed everyone else can knock this stuff out at, I took so long I had to charge my iPad again ;)

For viewers such as myself well worth the time and effort. If it means anything, I appreciate your talent, time and effort and generosity of spirit in sharing.

But quite amazing, everyone else, I hope @gennepher @dunelm and myself with my watercolours and I'm sure @geefull will agree we all settle for an impression of something, yours are life like, brilliant. I know I would also have got fed up after a few of that detail. You are very talented.

That's why I ended up doing technical drawing, I think my teacher got fed up of telling me I was too picky :bag: My brain is very one-sided :)
