What was your fasting blood glucose? (full on chat)

In the few minutes I have been having rest and posting, those little blighters have taken the fresh supply of chocolate. And only a few pieces of onion.

Right, I have some very dark chocolate (out of date), which is 80%. I will put that down now, along with more onion, dipped in the instant mash dried flakes.

I just hope I am not only feeding them...I hope they meet their makers as soon as possible...
 
Morning has broken at varying times and with a variety of problems for posters. Mice, snowy routes out of homes, grandchildren jabbed protectively but painfully, icy cycling routes and sticky eyes. I'm exhausted and we still haven't covered any of the elephants in the room. 4.8 on Swipey @5.38 - graph tailing down. Trust or not? Trust is very much a "live issue" for me just now. The tech suggests all vital signs are A OK but it feels very different. Which to trust? Fascinating new phrase/idea this morning. Grass roots movements are now being seen as/suspected of being Astroturf courtesy of Toby Young's malign influence on a worthy cause. Strong sense of (young?) people waking up and smelling coffee. Then again loss of smell is a symptom of that which can't be named. Which does seem to hit an older demographic harder. Back to trust issues:banghead:

Ah, then it's ok..good.

I try to read and remember a tad about each of us, so I don't just blithely put 'like' as I try to catch up with the posts

And I know for many under 5 is desirable,
But since coming on here, I have learned that for others they'd prefer s higher score

Just was out in the garden to feed the birds and this rate I will use 25kg of mixed corn with sunflower hearts mixed in about 10 days. Too cold to stay out for old men! :)
I took a few photos and came in just before 10am. The duchess said the small town 3 miles away is still -7 it is usually a degree colder here!
It's due to melt later today but cold again by tuesday.

A really wet day yesterday - all day rain, as much as you can take for one all in price and moving from heavy to monsoon but without the warmth. Meanwhile just a couple of miles up the road (and a bit higher up) snow plough in ditch. Granddaughter had anti-all-sorts injections yesterday - two in each leg - she is going to be little miss grumpy for a wee while.

Art today - unsized rice paper - about 8 x 6 inches. Hope everyone has a decent Saturday. Koffy time.

I like the colours, perspective and detail you have crammed into a small piece of paper. Reminds me of illustrated maps in The Lord of the Rings books yet much better.

Hope you are getting a drier day up soggy North.

I found out I had mice in the kitchen again...with the very cold below freezing weather. How did I find out? I lifted a tray of eggs, and had to put them down quick. I had already taken some a few days before, but it looked as though some eggs were missing.

Didn't make sense. But as I lifted it I found the mice had gone in between the underneath of the cardboard base tray and broken the eggs from underneath after eating the cardboard. Eaten the eggs. And left the shells underneath the cardboard tray. And it had been done surreptitiously from underneath so I didn't notice. I had to deal with that and threw away the rest of the tray of 30 eggs :(

I have been spraying peppermint, anyway, but the little blighters must have been starving this freezing weather. And I had been pouring bleach every couple of days in the area under the sink ( because I know they like to visit when the weather is below freezing), and they never come in the kitchen when I keep topping up that bleach. I did fill in these holes a few years ago and with steel wool, and cemented the hole in. This problem began when my gas supply pipe was replaced, and when I lifted the unit base, I could see the gaps round the new gas supply pipe. The mice didn't come back for a few years, but I presume they have dug a new way in knowing there is food in here.

But it appears they have the last few days with this cold weather. Popeye's face has said mice in the kitchen the last two days. But I hadn't seen any evidence of it, and kept pouring the bleach where those pipes are. So now I have some mess to clear. And I have been scrubbing everywhere. I haven't finished yet. I have moved stuff and cleaned behind things.

I researched again, and there is some different stuff suggested to kill the mice. Bay leaves is dangerous to mice but is okay for house pets. (But I am not letting Popeye in the kitchen anyway now. I don't want him catching and eating a mouse, or tackling something larger...). Chocolate is poisonous to mice. Apparently they die a few days later after eating onions. Instant potato apparently kills them.

So I have given them a feast last night of all the above where they come in.

So with Popeye, I am still looking for more natural ways. The rest of the kitchen is going to get the deterrent stuff. More peppermint, etc. So, I am checking everything and cleaning everything to check they haven't been anywhere else in the kitchen.

All food is in plastic containers anyway (from the last experience) and they haven't touched them at all. It was only the eggs that I left out which I have always done. They have never touched the eggs before.

I did have a couple of spare bottles of washing up liquid, but the mice chewed through those. Hence a puddle of washing up liquid. Also they chewed through two of my washing liquid stuff for the washing machine. Again...puddles, but it didn't leak until I picked it up, and obviously I squeezed it when I lifted it...and this fountain came out...

Apparently mice don't like silver foil, and won't attempt to chew that. So I wrapped an egg in silver foil. Left it on the floor. And if they don't touch that egg, then I will assume that works and do some more stuff in silver foil.

They have nibbled the bottom of my kitchen curtain so I need to replace that.

This is going to be an all day job Saturday as well.

I have a few other tricks up my sleeve...
But they haven't bothered me all year.
They must be starving now.

I took a pic of their feast so I will be able to tell what gets taken... and I will put more of that down...

So, Saturday now, I got up at 3 am this morning. The onions, dark chocolate and milk chocolate had all gone. They had walked through the potato flakes. So replaced all that. They hadn't touched the egg wrapped in silver foil.

Then I decided to take the net curtains down, and found they had chewed through my blinds as well, just a small hole. So, I thought in for a penny, in for a pound. I took nets and blinds and the fittings all down. I had a shower curtain left over from doing the bathroom. The colour and pattern looked great in the kitchen, and matched. Also found some curtain wire I had bought for the bathroom, but was reluctant to use on the upvc (plastic) frames, but I didn't care now. So managed (with difficulty), to put those small curtain wire hooks in the frame. Hung the shower curtain. Cut the excess length off. Found I had enough in width to make some box pleats. That made it look good and you couldn't see the metal rings in the plastic.

Then, behind the cooker I found another entry point up the skirting board. That needs blocking up with steel wire etc. And I will have to check some more skirting board.

This is all going to take a few days work to sort...

I am having a very well earned rest now. Consequently my digital painting is just a very rough sketch quickie...

A fine painting from what sounds like a full on war zone. Lots of depth and nice treatment of frosted grass around the tree roots.

The battle of squeeky hollow seems to be gatheing pace. Nice rows of trees, firmly rooted, dancing into the distance.

Thank you @gennepher - I quite like the idea of small paintings and also those colours used by the Chinese Artist Zang Daquian. Hope the battle of nibblers feast is going well.

Thank you kind sir - I will take that compliment.
The soggy north has been having a bit of respite - bright and sunny today so hopefully the flooded and frozen bits will reduce over the weekend.

Frosty here all day. I took this photograph in a Frost covered valley close to our house, liked the blues and so thought I would try painting it. Not finished but have some online guitar and flute lessons to give our granddaughters so can't do much more until Sunday when I will finish it.

I have tried all kinds of traps in the past, from those humane traps (little blighters refuse to enter), to an expensive crocodile teeth trap (you can see their little footprints on top, but they don't enter), to the old fashioned trap (but the little blighter takes the cheese but escapes the trap, minus a bit of his tail). I have bought mouse sized traps, rat sized traps, but never caught a thing yet. Then a few years ago (please don't laugh), I tried a bucket of water with bait on the pirate's plank. According to You Tube I WOULD get my mouse. Did I heck. I spent all day constructing the thing...

Forget traps, I have wasted enough money on them. If it takes my 100% Montezuma luxury dark expensive chocolate to send the little horrors over the rainbow bridge, then I will make that sacrifice...but I still have some cheaper dark chocolate...

They have even taken chocolate today while I was in the kitchen cleaning up their mess and germs, but my back was turned....but I still have a good supply of cheaper dark chocolate...

At least the nibblers should eat my out of date chocolate before they wander over that rainbow bridge, or it might be they hold me to ransom for more and more chocolate.....:banghead:

Yesterday afternoon I ordered some sample Chinese papers. It must have been around 3 pm, from that oriental art shop.

I got an email at 11 am this morning from them to say I should get them sometime the beginning of next week...I replied immediately saying they had already arrived at 10 am. I got an email back saying "Wow".

But I am on mouse cleaning duty today and tomorrow, then I have eye hospital Tuesday. So, it is going to be Wednesday before I begin!!!

Some of the samples are really small. And they have carefully hand written the names on them and labelled them all. A lot of care gone into this!

I love that Chinese artist's colours.
